MU Paint & Designs
« on: December 05, 2013, 01:35:32 PM »
Have found Glidden paint for MU colors: blue, gold & white .. Looking for ideas on baby blue. Is there another school with a VERY similar color?

Also... If I want to paint a design... Maybe the MU logo (ie the M and the U.. Not a chicken)... But I can't draw or do femme artsy things, how might I go about doing this... Tracing  paper or something? Help. ThAnks
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

I don't have a stitch of artistic ability, but I can work a paint roller.  You thinking about this for the inside of your garage?

I'd be happy to stop down and help....especially if it includes beverages.  Heck, for beverages, I can probably bring down a couple of your/our neighbors.  Maybe the one on the corner that I told you about.   ;)

I started this thread a month or so ago when looking to get an MU themed bags set  http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=39831.0  Wife sent out the email to the guy that made them, I'll check to see if I can find out what exact color / brand he used (we provided the pantone pallet referenced in the thread) but I can say it looks very close to the MU baby blue.

We bought the boards pre made with the baby blue paint off of Etsy and to get durable bags, plan on putting on the MU logo using a window cling and the iconic pinstriping down the sides, then will finish off with a type of clear coat the builder recommended.  If it works out will post a pic for reference.

Depending on the size of the design, and access to a plotter style printer the tracing method works well, you can just blow up the logo from any decent web image as it doesn't need a lot of detail.  I had one at my old corporate job, most companies have something that you can weasel your way in to, check with PR or advertising.  Use the blue painters tape to outline each color area one at a time and just roll/spray it down.  Trick I learned from a college roommate who worked for a paint contractor.

The best thing to do is to call up the MU athletics department and find out the pantone numbers and then have your local paint store pull those and do a color match.

For a design, I'd blow up the design as large as you could on a printer... or take a digital copy to kinkos (or whatever they are called now) and ask for a large print of it.  Maybe get a couple of copies and create giant stencils.... thick card stock is probably better.

boom.

I did the 'M' and 'U' separate on some bags boards that now sit useless in my garage.

I took the largest monogram I could find and printed it off. I painted the board yellow. I then scaled the monogram picture with the size of the board, measured the width and length of the letter dimensions. I took the dimensions and blew them up for the board and taped the letter off. I then painted the rest of the board blue. Let the paint dry and peel of the tape.

If you're doing it on a wall, see if you can get your hands on a LCD projector to hook up to your computer and then project the image onto the wall.  Then just trace on the wall and paint.  An old-fashioned overhead projector would work just as well, but those are probably harder to find than an LCD projector.

Thanks guys.. just sent a msg to MU to see if they have a pantone color for the baby blues. Some good ideas.. not sure if I can pull anything off other than just painting one wall blue, another gold... but, we'll see.

I thought in another thread that one of the spiritwear purveyors referred to it as "North Carolina" blue.  I don't know how accurate that would be in actuality.

As far as a logo goes, you could always just use an MU Logo Fathead:

If you run into a dead end, I've got a friend in the athletic dept that might be able to help..

Are you going to do a warrior logo?

I've got a room painted baby blue.... now I've started having pictures printed as posters.

Please post pictures or links to pictures (MU-related, you freaks) that would make for good posters. Interesting, good pics (like MBD's dunk).

I've got some compromising photos of 4never out on the farm that you could put up in your crib.  Is that MU related enough?

He'd probably pony up some serious cash to get the photos back.  Money making scheme.

How about the picture of Al standing on the scorer's table with the Bucky Dad flipping him off?  If anyone has a higher-quality digital copy of that, I would love to have that myself for jsglow's mancave.

I've done the construction on the boards a few times. Painted Packers and Blackhawks sets too. (Using fathead minis for the logos). I've got a set of boards set aside for Warriors sets, but it's the logo that gives me fits. I can do the constuction, but the painting I'd need an assist on.

In case anyone was curious:

I wouldn't stand on em, but they're sturdy. Nothing stops me from making em bigger either.

But have you named your son "AL" or your daughter "ALLIE"?

Or incorporated "Marquette", "Jacques" or "Warrior" into their name?

I'm not THAT crazy. Just starting to throw some picture-posters up. Not sure where / how to arrange them.. probably will just keep adding to the walls. Until I get upset during a game, tear 'em all down.. then I'll start over.
