Best half of basketball of the year
« on: January 30, 2014, 06:55:15 PM »
Every single player went out there and contributed.    Phenomenal choice by buzz to send everybody out there in waves and wear down the Friars.   No idea what happens in the second half, but this first half is what I have been envisioning all year.

Agreed. Best we've looked all season. Defense was a brick wall. Gave up nothing

I think it is what we have been asking for. First off - a new starting lineup.
Second, this is the best defense we have seen from Derrick this year - Dawson gave him several breaks to keep him fresh.

Only 2 negatives - offensive rebounds and really bad against the press. Hopefully Providence will press a lot in the 2nd half so we can see who can play & who can't.

On one defensive possession, DG pushed two or three of the MU players into position.  Nice to see him leading the others.

yeah the defensive rebounding needs to ramp it up... but other than that... I wish the 1st half never ended...

The freshmen all played defense at the same time for the first time all year.    I have been advocating a line up change, love having 3 guys out there with an attacking mentality, along with the two defense first player.

Cottons gonna have a long night...

Derricks Defense is looking great....

and Dawson Plays against Derrick EVERYDAY... In practice so hes learning from a LOCKDOWN guy... Mix that with his natural Offense... the future looks bright!!!!

Dawson played the scouting report against Cotton, worked his butt off and played well.   He made a couple of freshman mistakes.    Derrick played his butt off against Cotton, pushed the ball, and had a nice take.   Everyone is happy.

Spot on. I like Buzz going with the aggressive, offensive-minded starters. I don't think he'll go 11 deep every game, but Buzz has to feel good knowing if everyone is playing with intensity, he can use 11 so no  one gets exhausted. I'm seeing about the right amount of minutes/person as I wanted to at this point.

D Wilson or Jake are both better when not paired together. While they both frustrate me a great deal, I do believe if not matched up together they can at least play a role. Starting lineup tonight allowed us to get out to faster start and that is key for this team. They do not have fire power to always play from behind.
