Mickelson has a great life. Certainly no reason to feel sorry for him. That said, the article cited by Chicos does pose some interesting questions. There's really nothing controversial about Phil. Loves his wife, loves his kids, comports himself on and off the course like a gentleman. Treats the fans with more kindness and consideration than maybe any athlete in the history of sport. Yet he has more "haters" than anyone on the tour. Why? The goofy grin? The extra 5-10 pounds around his belly? Don't think so. I think some out there want to turn the game of golf into some sort of morality play, with Phil being the evil representative of white privilege while Tiger carries the banner for goodness, tolerance and equality. It has the makings of a movie critics would love if only Phil would cooperate and be a jerk. He wont, but those eager for the narrative still find a way to despise him.

I do find some of this funny.  First off, let me say Phil is my favorite golfer.  But to say there is nothing controversial about him isn't wholly true. 

There are widespread reports that him and his wife are actively involved in the "swinger" community.  I'm fine with that, its their business and if they are cool with it, by all means have fun.  I would say though that it is typically considered quite controversial.

Staying low since the "deer antler incident and just filed law suit against the PGA Tour which really pissed off the Touring Pros.  He is getting ready for the Senior Tour now.

Vijay is just getting old. He's 50. In his prime, he was one of the longer hitters on the Tour. His short game and putting have never been his strength. The Champions Tour is calling.
