There was one substitution yesterday that surprised me in the second half.  I forget the exact moment but I'm guessing there was about 12 minutes to go.  On a dead ball Buzz put Mayo in and took Blue out.  At that time blue had 2 fouls.  It seemed like an unusual situation to sub out a superior defender.  Vander was back on the floor a few seconds later on another dead ball.

And as to Jake.  All you guys need to do is think back the the 'Cuse game.  Nothing was going in and Buzz turned to Jake.  Of course we remember his heroic shot but I think you needed to be at the game to actually see the floor oen up a foot or two.  And then DG absolutely went off.  Well, yesterday coach tried that same thing.  Jake took a shot or two (we all wanted him to as we needed the offensive energy) and it simply didnt succeed.  But his presence on the floof in the final 6.7 absolutely meant that Blue couldn't get doubled from the left side baseline defender.  Buzz' other great adjustment  in having Wilson trail the play meant that Blue had one man to beat.  And he actually did fairly easily.

I'll go back to my one recommendation.  We now know that Jake can play well enough in certain situations to help the team.  I hope coach asks him to spend his summer shooting 3s.  I remain convinced that he had to absorb too much responsibility when Todd was out.

I have no idea what games you watch.  none.

Read it like this:

Rabble rabble rabble.  Ted Thompson fondles children! Free agents!  No depth!  Rabble rabble rabble.

He makes more sense that way.

GGGG

I think that is when Todd was slow on a rotation and gave up an open shot.  It is clear that Buzz doesn't trust Todd on the defensive end of the floor right now.

IIRC, he subbed Mayo in for Blue because MU was on defense and, presumably, he didn't want Blue to pick up his third foul. He does similar things with Otule and Gardner but that's typically a more straight-forward offense/defense substitution.

Can't play D?

Mayo can really D up in face-guarding/"don't let him catch" situations and is also a pretty good on-ball defender. Help defense? Not so much.

Todd's in a funk, no doubt.  What one needs to watch for is that segment when Todd hits a couple of shots and jumpstarts the offense.

Nope.  Not in that particular case.  Todd came in to play D for Van when a 3rd foul wouldn't have been an unacceptable risk.  During the possession there was a foul (someone else, Juan maybe?) and Vander came right back in.  So Buzz seemingly wasn't afraid of the 3rd foul scenario as he would then have reversed his thinking in the space of 15 seconds.

Ooooo....  That's a pretty lame message board response.  I think I would have chosen the "don't say anything else" option.

Is this where the angry old guys try to be Internet bullies cause they have nothing else to do?

I think so

Oh I have plenty to do.  But I always find time to teach our youth the error of their ways.  I'm a giver.

I'm 31.  Dementia is a few years off, I hope.

I understand the game fine.  Look at the stats for the year.  Todd Mayo has been totally invisible all year.  Barely worth the minutes, that he plays.  As others have pointed out, Trent had a great game yesterday.  He hasn't been someone that scores points all year long.  He is a defender, rebounder, leader and that is exactly what he did.  He had zero turnovers as well.

This is what I mean.  I don't know what you are basing your arguments from.  You can call me all the names you want... Since I'm not a child it doesn't bother me.  You should be more bothered by your inability to explain your strange analysis of the game... then resort to name calling when you can't.

I can see you've been doing a lot of teaching with that post count.  But to Hards there's a game tomorrow at 6:45, don't miss it. MU will be rocking!

Relax.  Lets hug.   Mu's got work to do still and we'll all be cheering they get it done no matter who does it.

I am worried about this young man. Sure hope he stays and can get his act together over the summer.
