Well I guess I see the point about the USF guy. I was watching the game with others who thought it was odd, as I did. I have seen other games where the end was a foregone conclusion, and the teams slap fives with their opponents, signifying both are calling the game. Looked like there was still play to be had.

Oh wait a minute. I see the problem. There were no slaps of fives. Man, that really is an issue this year. (hopefully no teal required)

In that situation, most teams will stop playing D.  The shot clock was off and MU was standing there with the ball.  Almost the opposite of Fab Mello, where MU stopped playing D and they scored a cheapie.  When one team "calls off the dogs", typically the other does as well.  What would the reaction have been if MU drove the lane and took a shot?

I don't know what word I would use, but these were the scrubs for USF playing.  They are trying to show themselves, get playing time ...  The problem is, outside of Jamail, everyone played significant minutes.

I realize this discussion has gone way off course from the OP (shocker), but case in point is the Providence game.  With about five seconds left, Juan Anderson took a half court pass from someone and had a wipe open opportunity for a dunk. He didn't take it. Because he isn't a South Florida clown who doesn't get it.

Congrats on the attempt at stat-padding. Good riddance that Rudd missed the second free throw, allowing Marquette to win the rebounding advantage by one and lowering his free throw percentage.

The problem with that theory is the guy who did this, Victor Rudd, isn't a scrub. He averages almost 28 minutes a game.

Honestly, it was bizarre. I can't recall seeing another time where a team (up big) is dribbling out the clock and some guy steals the ball. I'm glad that MU got back and fouled him.

I didn't realize that.  I was on my way up the aisle when he stole it.  I assumed it was one of the scrubs.  Makes defending the actions a little more difficult.

I remember this and remember thinking it was very classy on Anderson's part to not go for the dunk and to just dribble it out. Difference is, the winning team had the ball in that instance.

I watched the presser video that was posted in the other thread, and someone asked Buzz about it. He seemed to shrug it off so between that and everyone else's posts, I guess I just took this the wrong way. The last four minutes of that game were kind of disjointed.

Well, what is he going to say?  "That was really a poor move by their player?"

We won the game by a lot.   The USF player's action says more about him than anything else.   Non-issue.

Buzz is an upfront guy, if he was going to be pissed at Mayo for anything, he'd have said something like "you'll never see Mayo just walk off the court again, 20 point lead with 9 seconds to go or not".  The fact that a reporter asked about it validates that I wasn't the only one who thought it was a weird turn of events. Having said that, non-issue? Yah it is.
