I read an article on CNNSI today (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/paul_daugherty/03/23/xavier.tourney/index.html?eref=sihp) about Xavier and their status as a 'mid-major' program. While reading the article, I started thinking about NCAA regulations on recruiting...

I find it odd that there are well publicized restrictions on how many phone calls/texts a coach can make during the recruiting process, while there are no restrictions on how much a coach can use a private jet to fly around the country to watch players. I understand that the difference probably lies in player contact (calls/texts means there is interaction between recruit and coach, watching someone play is does not). However, if i were 16-18 years old and I knew Buzz Williams chartered a jet and flew 800 miles just to watch me play a highschool basketball game, that would probably send a bigger message to me than a phone call or a text.

I guess my question is this: Does anyone know if there are any guidelines/rules regulating a coaches use of chartered jets for recruiting purposes?

not unless the kids are flying on them too.   :)

private jet travel just makes sense with the headaches of commercial air travel.  Never got why people bitched about the company jet either.  Do you really want your executives sitting in the terminal watching skynews or getting where they need to be and getting work done?
