Making the jump to Jumpman

Much was made over the previous few seasons about MU's exclusive deal with Converse, and with good reason.

Thanks to the school's affiliation with Dwyane Wade, the men's basketball team became a beneficiary of a great deal with the shoe/apparel company, which outfitted the Golden Eagles in some of the most unique and best-looking uniforms in college basketball, as well as plenty of other gear.

And while they were required to sport Converse kicks on the court, off the court was a completely different story. Not unlike the younger demographic everywhere else in the country, just about every MU player could be found wearing some sort of sneaker with a Jordan logo on it.

As mentioned in another thread:

JSonline changed their RSS feed.  This is only the first little bit of the article.  To read the whole article, follow the link.

SCdem@MU

Yup, I was about to post the same thing after I got this in my feed reader.

I guess people over at JS Online do read what goes on at MUScoop...

ChicosBailBonds

Smart thing to do....just about every media outlet is going to go this route and many will start charging for you to read that link.  That's when it really gets interesting.   :D

In the other thread Hilltopper mentioned that they got in contact with JSO to discuss it and this is the fruits of their discussions.

Better this than the Armageddon of lawsuits you were predicting :P

I never predicted they would. I simply said they could and that republishing the RSS feed created a risk for MUScoop. I also said that risk was much greater now than it was when they started republishing the RSS feed given the recent changes in the news industry.

It makes sense for the JS to make nice with their target audience for the sports blogs. As a result of them playing nice 95% of us will probably go over there to read Rosiak's blogs and hopefully a good portion will comment on his posts like they were doing here when Rosiak's content was being republished in full.

The Armageddon of lawsuits would have probably pissed off 95% of us to never read Rosiak or the JS again. But if JS Online was hell bent on making an example out of MUScoop they certainly could of and they probably still could if they really wanted to.

Anyway, glad to see that this apparently got resolved in a way that everyone can live with.

I also hope that the JS looked at our discussion on their ridiculous ToS agreement and makes some serious updates to that. If I had to guess they wrote that 10 years ago when the web was a very different place and haven't updated it since.

TallTitan34

Now that Todd's blog hits will be up about 500% maybe the JS will actually give him space in the real paper.

I was just joking, buddy.  In no way did I want to start up that discussion again :)

Indeed, after three years of posting Rosiak's blog feed, surprise, surprise, a day after SCdem@MU's criticism, the JS contacted us asking what we were going to do about the full posting of the blog.  (Actually, it wasn't brought to their attention because they were reading MUScoop.)

We (rocky) replied that we were republishing the RSS feed they provided, as any feed reader would, and would like to continue to do so.  The JS never responded to our email nor follow-up phone message over the last 7 days.

Either they agreed with our assessment (or simply didn't want to go down any other avenue) as we now have their response: the feed has gone into summary mode, forcing MUScoop users to click to read.

So thank you, SCdem, for voicing your concern, getting the JS's attention, causing them to eliminate this feature.  --  I mean, first you've "saved" us all from a "big lawsuit", and second, the extra revenue from our traffic will keep the Journal Sentinel in business well into next Tuesday.   Well done!

How does it feel to receive the douchebag of the year award.

So - anyway....glad the Nike/Jordan Jumpman news is official, sounds like the guys on the team are ecstatic about it.  Bet Dom, Rel, and Wes wish they had some of the kicks the new guys will get.

Speaking of kicks:  It will be interesting to see if our foot-injury problem goes away with the switch from Converse to Nike.

Does MU Scoop employ Rosiak or does the Urinal?

Shame on them expecting something (ie. web traffic) in return for the free use of their material. I am with SCDem on this one.

No one is debating that, MUCam.  In fact, the entire conversation began with me saying something along the line of "It's odd the JS gives away Todd's great blog instead of putting it in the paper" (or online where they can make $).

Gosh, so actually, it's all MY fault for bringing it up.

Thank you, thank you.  I have a long list of people to thank ..

It's unfortunate that we have to visit the site to read the whole feed because now you have to be exposed to the douche -bag rodent fans who add their little under-hand comments and critiques about MU.  Oh well, read it and then leave...

I wasn't the only person that criticized MUScoop for republishing the entire feed. Several people in the other thread (and here) said they would prefer to have headlines or summaries rather than import the entire blog posts or that it would be the "right" thing if not the "legal" to do.

Instead of blaming Crean this season, feel free to blame me for any bad things that happen during the season, that would make about as much sense as blaming me for this.

The switch to Jumpman no doubt made Cal the powerhouse hoops program it is today.

Seriously, I agree with Buzz and Lazar on this. This is a HUGE deal to recruits. The Jumpman brand holds a lot of prestige in urban communities and in the basketball culture.

I know that I would pay real money for some Air Jordan I's in Blue and Gold.

1) it's 2009 folks. Douche hasn't come in bags for years  - it's all bottles now.  Making the appropriate term douchebottle.
2) I didn't know there was a 10 for $10 sale going on.
