Cant win this game if we are going to rush the paint shots.

Stevie, Omax(with his typical fall over) and Oso have all rushed them.

Getting good looks though.

I like that OMax took it strong. We just have to accept he's going to fall over 10-15 times per game.

Gotta love the home whistle already.  It's a built in benefit for the home teams in the Big East.  Gotta be more fundamental on the road.  Any slip up in any fundamental gives the stripes a reason to get a reaction from the crowd.

My MU roommate's families and mine got together every New Year's Eve when our kids were growing up.  We took a caravan road trip to the first MU-Creighton game in Omaha because one roommate was from outside Omaha.  That night still left a mental scar so deep I hate even watching MU games at Creighton to this day

Yep, he can still be effective but he's useless with the ball 18 feet from the basket in this game.

Knew CU would be a problem game after Mitchell air balled a two foot semi layup, then fouled Nembhard on a shot and then had a one on three turnover.

During the first half Oso has missed at least four hook shots, Mitchell two others, Kolek also, all thanks to Kalkbrenner. He stands straight up on his defense and it really affects the shots. He only has one block on Joplin, but has caused serious defensive damage to MU.  He also setting great screens for CU players driving to the basket.  Very good player.

Keep lead down to six/ seven for half.

Seems as if Creightons defense is predicated on not allowing you to get an open 3, and then making you go all the way to Kalkbrenner.

They allow everything in the midrange.

Might be a good time to sprinkle in some midrange. I know it's not a part of the offense, but Kam and TyKo need some Darryl Morsell type mid rangers.

If not, then Marquette has to attempt more 3s in this one. Shoot early and often if you get a look.
I'm usually not a "more Ben" guy, but more Ben. Play him with Oso if you want Osos defense.

Also, he was awful in the 1H but go back to Jop, he's a creative scorer and has midrange abilities

Marquette would rather take a highly contested shot at the rim or 3 than an open mid range shot. Maybe next year for Oso they will make an exception but I'd think he'd develop a 3 before a mid range.

I'm hopeful at this point Prosper moves on next year.  He lacks balance and his constant falling to the floor is a reflexive action at this point.  If he simply does his job on two momentum changing plays it's quite possibly a one possession game at the half.  His inconsistency is maddening.

But, Ben Gold needs to play A LOT more. He's attacked Kalkbrenner, Clingan, and Sanogo all successfully off the dribble as they press up on his 3.

I mean I don't want to compound on it and seem harsh, but it's kind of who he's been most of his career at Marquette...

That's why I never saw what others did.

To his credit, at times the game has slowed down, but mostly against inferior competition. Last year when Marquette was down 35 and UNCs defense was matador he looked great too.

I'm sure he's a great kid and wish him the best, and I'm sure he's worked hard and has developed a decent jumper to go with his athleticism, but he needs to change his game.

He needs to use his body and athleticism ti become a defender and rebounder first, and anything offensively is a bonus.
A put back, an occasional 3, a good drive here and there.

He is what Black is to UNC in an Elite 8 Marquette squad

Omax two turnovers were ball busting. Six point turnaround in short order.

Thought we had zero chance at halftime at UConn and think they are very much in this game.

Yep, those two possessions were massive just as we were getting CU on their heels. Tough catch I suppose at full speed on second one, but the first one is hard to figure.

I'm hopeful at this point Prosper moves on next year.  He lacks balance and his constant falling to the floor is a reflexive action at this point.  If he simply does his job on two momentum changing plays it's quite possibly a one possession game at the half.  His inconsistency is maddening.

Good lord.

If Marquette pulls this one off give him all the accolades, give them all the accolades

How can you give each of two entities all the accolades each!?!

Wow. Two calls (non calls) our way. Over the course of a game and season, things even out. That's why complaining about officiating never makes sense.

Those last two plays could have easily gone the other way. Not saying they were wrong or right. Just, things even out.

Great 2nd half today!

Kam got mugged in the inbound.  Only a Creighton fan sees differently.  As for the final shot, that would be a preposterous call even at the end of the first half, much less to end the game.

Regardless, this team is special.  Nothing else can be said.  Just relentless, unflinching, and GAMERS.  What a damn win

I'm still trying to recover from Kam Jones coming too close to fouling on that last play. With Schierman being a lefty there was no way he was going to get a shot to the basket while going to his right.

I guess I get the idea you run away from the shooter, but in reality Kam was not in danger of getting called for a causing a foul. He was moving back, away from the shooter, and with his hands straight up in the air. The Creighton player jumped into him and he never tried to block the shot or swipe at the ball.

A little too hesitant on shooting the 3s. Taking too much time on drives and the ball Is stopping.

Still in it.

These things changed over the half. A lot more decisiveness on the drives and shots. That was a hell of a fun half to watch.

For the most part it has been a hell of a two years to watch. I have enjoyed watching every minute of watching  a top ten team being built. This isn't smoke and mirrors, one trick pony or fools gold, but rather, a program being built for the long haul.

I completely agree. But, first of all, watching live on TV, you don't get to break it down that closely right away.  The camera broke away from the shooter and started following the arc of the ball. And, because the ball didn't go very far, I was holding my breath waiting to hear that a foul had been called.

Second, we have all seen fouls called that, upon close review, should not have been called. Though at the end of the game it is customary to let some things go that might be called in the normal flow of play. Of course, a play like that doesn't happen except at the very end of the game. At halftime you just let a guy heave up a shot like that.
