Well folks, we are thinking of going to the BET this year....FINALLY ! ! ! Im asking for a little guidance for Tix and even Hotel stays..... Would like to stay at the team hotel! ! ! Do I contact MU Athletic office?? Any help will be appreciated ! ! ! 8-)
I went last year, bought tickets which there were many, $40 each and they were good seats, I would wait, that's what I am doing this year. Hotels lots to chooses, depends on how much money you want to spend, I stay with my daughter in Morristown so I am not any help.
Last year the expensive ticket on Stubhub was for the semifinals. MU saved us money by not making it. A bartender told us that's the ticket that costs the most.
Normally would wing it on the tix, and still might, but this year might be the exception where buying a little earlier may work out
I've stayed twice at the Renaissance Midtown right across the street from MSG while the team was there. Last time was 2019, so not sure if they still stay there or not. You can check with the athletic department.
I'm going. Most definitely. My friend George Santos said I could stay at his house in Queens. And I've known Shaka since our days at Oregon High. We've been talking lately about a few restaurants in the New York area. There's a steak house and an Italian restaurant we're pretty sure will meet our expectations. And then there's the Bar on the Green across the street from Central Park. Great place to drink. Send me your phone number and I'll call you before we make our reservations. Sorry, this is not an opportunity to impress an ex-wife or a creepy girl friend. Serious considerations only.

You crack me up-well done!
I wish 4everwarriors would meet us there for the tournament. I love his broken English. I don't need a translator or an interpreter. Aina. I've driven through Sheboygan a few times. He and I were probably in some of the same classes. Hey, I'll bet he was the guy who got drunk and threw up Arby's on my first edition copy of "The Sound and the Fury." Some of the pages are still stuck together, and it's worthless. Except to me. Carry on Benjy. Meet me in New York City. I'm not trying to start any trouble. I'm just having fun.

Streets in NY are a battlefield 4ever won't go.
Do they sell a ticket package for all nights or do you buy tickets every day.
I typically stay in Chelsea or financial district and take the 1 subway to MSG. It's generally cheaper and quieter. I will also make my hotel res for 2024 in June and have scored inexpensive stays a some pretty good hotels.

Flights are really reasonable right now too....Maybe I need to make it happen this year...
Gosh, if this crowd is fearful of downtown Milwaukee and won't go to a FiServ game due to the crime, why on earth would anyone consider New York City?

Good question.
A colleague who is a UConn diehard
Called me about the tournament tickets
He is a season ticket holder, has the points but was told he had to pony up
$10k to buy tickets
Is that crazy or de riguer?

They're sleeping on the benches in Penn Central Station right below MSG and sponge bathing themselves in the bathrooms. Plenty of food available there as well. No need to go outside if you arrive via Amtrak, as my wife and I will. I'm going to run this idea past her. We could save a lot of money on hotel expenses.

First time going to the BET, first time going to New York
For Marriott loyalists, there's a great Renaissance property on 35th between 7th and 8th Ave. Two blocks from MSG. I stayed there a few years ago and we loved it.
Hmmm... stayed at Westin near Times Square last year. Liked the location bc not far from Broadway to the north & msg to south.

If you can arrive via Amtrak, I recommend it! You deboard in Penn Station, just below MSG. Easy, easy.
In addition to the games, be sure to make time for a trip to Central Park. The 911 memorial is a must. The victims and their loved ones deserve to have us pay our respects. My wife and I will try to visit the United Nations this time. Last year it was closed to the public. Something about a humongous annal opening invading a neighboring country. They were kinda busy.
Expect to pay some outrageous prices for a lot of things. Then you will not be surprised.
Consider the New Yorker Hotel, an Art Nouveau landmark that opened just about the same time the stock market crashed. Two floors above us, a guy named Nickolai Tesla lived in 2 rooms for years. Just below the lobby, they have an area dedicated to Tesla.
Those looking for a great Italian meal I'd suggest Trattoria Malatesta in the West Village. All pastas are homemade. Handwritten menus. Cash only. No reservations.
For a great spot near the Garden try Turntable Chicken Jazz. Great chicken barbecue joint. Only about 3blocks away.
Also on an off night try and get into The Comedy Cellar on MacDougal. Tough to get a spot unless you reserve early (through their website).
Jay Bee,
You'll need to fine tune the dates a bit. We are staying the 8th-12th and it still shows available. The full block (4th to 14th) shows No Availability.

Or you could stay at the Holiday Inn a few blocks from MSG for a grand or more per night.

Agreed with Central Park and the 9/11 Memorial. 9/11 Memorial is heavy, obviously.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, from the Brooklyn side into Manhattan. Also, take the Staten Island Ferry (free) and then just get back on it to head back into Manhattan. Those are the two best views of the city, to me.
I don't like breakfast food at all really, but I'd eat Bagel Pub bagel breakfast sandwiches for every meal if I could.

Good call on Comedy Cellar. I'm not much of a standup fan. Show was at like midnight and we were staying in Brooklyn, so it was going to be a late night. Wouldn't have picked it as something to do myself, but it was awesome. Aziz Ansaria stopped in and did some standup. It was his first public appearance following the sexual abuse accusation. He was actually the worst performance, was clearly just testing material. But pretty cool to see him in front of about 250 people maybe? I don't know the capacity, but it's not big.

Stop by Fraunces Tavern if you head down to the WTC. George Washington had his farewell dinner to his officers there after the revolution.
Pretty relaxing vibe with a great liquor selection and live music.

Quick eats in the neighborhood:
Bacon, egg, and Cheese (Bagels):

Pizza slice or pie:
Pizza Suprema is good, and it's immediately SW of MSG, on 8th ave and 31st.

We stayed there the only time we went to the tournament in 2009 and the team stayed there that year. It's a simple 10 block walk to MSG and we went to a show at the New Amsterdam theater which is just across the street.
I used to stay at the Renaissance Midtown one - two times a month at my last job. I've been staying at the Westin for my recent trips, and even though it's further from MSG, Westin > Renaissance.

Since you're only an hour from MSG, put it in perspective. Marquette fans are spending huge amounts of money for travel, hotel and other expenses, so your outlay for pizza will be pocket change. Coffins don't have pockets. A day tripper like you should not give a rat's ass what the prices are.

And really many parts of Manhattan, can be "close" via subway, bus, etc....so places to stay, eat, and things to do, don't all have to be super close to MSG.

My daughter and I went last year. The hors d'oeuvres were legit and plentiful. We easily made it a meal. It was a fantastic value at just $20 for the entire tournament. I was just disappointed that we only got one game out of it - but it was worth $20 for even just one game.
My son and I just threw together a last minute trip to the Big East Tournament -- Friday and Saturday only. We have our flights, our hotel, and our tickets for Friday night. I'm hoping a victory over UConn on Friday night will result in a glut of available tickets for Saturday night. Go Warriors!

There is a 99% chance Marquette gets the #1 seed with tiebreakers.
Obviously win one and that takes care of that, but I think there's only one scenario where they lose a tiebreaker? Gotta find the article on it.

I wouldn't say they hate us. Uconn has a team thats built for tournament success and was number 2 at one point. I don't view that as disrespect just going with that people thought originally. Creighton/Uconn is a monster first round matchup that I hope they beat the crap out of each other before the Marquette game. As for Creighton they were the favorite coming into the season. Looking at the matchups theres no doubt Marqutte has the harder draw than the 2/3 seeds. Uconn being 5th kind of messes up the bracket as they are not the 5th best team despite the record.

The Friday night 1/8/4/5 matchup is probably the real championship game, as I think whoever comes out of that will beat X or Providence on Saturday night.

I just booked my flight and hotel. Questions for those who have attended before:
1. If you buy a ticket for a particular day, is it for all the games that day?
2. If so, can you come and go from MSG?
3. Is it best to buy tickets one day at a time?
Thanks in advance.

So good.
Tickets are for sessions. The Wednesday Session 1 tickets are for the three games that day. Session 2 is the two games Thursday afternoon, Session 3 is the two games in the evening. Session 4 is the two semifinal games Friday, Session 5 is the championship game on Saturday.
I have never tried to go in and out during a session but I would be surprised if that was allowed. Obviously the building will be cleared between Sessions 2 and 3, similar to when there are the first round NCAA games in the afternoon and the evening.

I think the question of when to by tickets is tricky because it depends a lot on where teams get seeded and how they do. Unfortunately, UConn's inclusion in Session 2 (Thursday morning) is driving up prices for that session (which also happens to include Marquette). Last I checked, prices for Session 2 were actually
higher than the prices for the Semifinals (at least for the cheapest seats available). Those would have been cheaper to buy before it became clear that UConn would be in that session. If UConn wins on Thursday, I suspect tickets for the Semifinals will go up as the UConn fans snap them up. If UConn loses on Thursday, there may be a dip in the price for the Semis. I think that the same scenario will play out with both UConn and Villanova - if those two teams advance, ticket prices will probalby rise; if they lose, ticket prices likely will stay flat or drop.

When you say Session 2, do you mean the first session on Thursday? If so, where are you seeing tickets for $140? The cheapest I see on Ticketmaster are $215+.
Edited to add: I realize now you're probably not including the fees. I do see some in the $150 range without fees.
Yes Session 2 is Thursday afternoon. Last I looked, which was yesterday, the Friday tickets were indeed running cheaper.

agreed on Zuckers. very good
I bought my Thursday tix during the DePaul game Saturday. I think they were about twice as much as the quarterfinal last year, but the equivalent ticket is now close to $200 more than what I paid. I wonder though if that will change closer to the date, as now is pretty much when people are making plans.
I've been stupid and failed to look for tickets to Friday night's semis before now. The cheapest tickets are $190?! That's crazy!
The semi tickets have been holding pretty steady compared to last week. That's also about what they were after the quarterfinals last year. Bartender told us last year that the semis are usually the hottest ticket.
IF** Providence is losing late this morning, may buy Thursday tix right then.
Thinking is a PC loss + Creighton win in Chicago = Prov in the 4 seed vs UCONN and a potential run on tickets this afternoon or tonight
For those who waited, ticket prices are as low as I've seen them for a couple weeks. You can get in the door for the early session tomorrow for as low as $100 (plus fees) and there are dozens of tickets available for under $200 (including fees). Compare this to a week ago when you couldn't even get in the door for under $200. The semis are slightly lower than they were before, but still pretty pricey.
True dat. It's what I'm seeing as well. We'll continue to monitor, but may sit for a Butler upset before buying

One of the more satisfying games I've attended was the 2019 BET tournament game against them when we won by a million. That St Johns team was cocky and swept us in the regular season and also beat us the previous year. Seeing Shamorie Ponds put on his warmup near the end of the game, put the hood over his head and pull the strings so it closed all the way where you couldn't see his face anymore was just an awesome sight. Here is hoping MU ends their season again tomorrow in similar fashion.
Dangling participle.
We wont lose to STJ.
The big question is game2 ... if its UCONN, everyone is favoring them. Are we as good as we seem to be. If so we beat UC. That will be an important game to say if we are really this good.
I know UC has to beat Providence....if Providence wins, I think we beat them without a problem. But the importance of the game, defining who we really are, wont be there.

Neither a win nor a loss vs. UConn will "define who we really are." Matchups matter. Teams can have incredible nights or off nights. Foul trouble can be a factor. Etc etc etc. I won't think we're doomed if we lose; and I won't think we've got it made if we beat 'em.
According to Professor Dodds SJ will have an advantage tomorrow because they played today. They had a chance to shake the tournament jitters and get used to the rims and the environment.
Fatigue isn't a factor until a team plays 3 days in a row.
The good thing is that a number of people think the top 16 seeds will be locked in by the end of the night tonight. So this weekend is just about getting ready for the NCAA Tournament.

Obviously want to see the boys win out in NYC, but hoping for at least a win tomorrow against SJU, which won't be easy for all the reasons mentioned.
Friday against Uconn will be tough - there is a very notable difference in the atmosphere during the semis, particularly when one of the local teams is playing. Pressure will be on Marquette and we're a very young team (will be a great test!)
World won't end tomorrow if we lose tomorrow, but will be akin to losing an early Thursday game in the big tournament. A lot of the fun really kicks in on Friday and those making the trip (self included) will miss out a bit.
A loss on Friday probably doesn't impact seeding and will be good high pressure experience heading into the big tourney the following week.
Now that I've overthought it, LET's GO!
There isn't a coach I'd rather have in this exact situation than Shaka. We win the league by two games, get BECOY and BEPOY, and we're underdogs in this tournament?

StJ looked "hot" for 24 seconds against us. During that time they could have punted the ball from the stands and made it. I expect Marquette to come out with a chip on their shoulder after that game being "close."

St. John's is 4-3 in their last 7 games. 3 of those wins are over DePaul (double overtime), Georgetown & Butler. If we go further out, they're 4-6 in their last 10. They appear hot because Marquette saw St. John's A game on Saturday.
Listen, they have a lot of talented dudes and Herm said it best, they're a better team without Curbelo. Anything can happen on a given day but Marquette is favored by 9 on KenPom for a reason. If they lose, it's because they stunk or the Johnnies play like they did last Saturday for 40 minuntes instead of 32.

It's fine to respect the opponent. And they certainly did give us a game last week, but I don't think you and I have the same definition of "kinda hot."
Marquette has won 11 of 12, with our only loss at UConn. We've won our last 6, including over St. John's. We're kinda hot, too.

They smoked MU by 20 in opening round. They had Pickett, Blair, and Harris then go nuclear from three point range in remaining games. They also had Wahab, who was a defensive stud for the BET. They just got hot and won as I believe a 9 seed.
Wahab transferred to Maryland then back to Georgetown this year
Pickett transferred, Blair transferred and this year BET MVP Harris, right before season transferred to Virginia.

Does tomorrow count as a road game for quadrant purposes?

That doesn't sound encouraging. But then again, Reed doesn't call the shots. I feel like they
have to fire him; he's not even pretending to care at this point. He's practically been daring them to fire him since mid-way through the BE season.

I believe tournaments that reseed usually have days off in between. It'd be a tough ask for DePaul to play last night and turn around and play 15 hours later.

The International Dateline is not a straight line. It does not determine Eastern vs Western Hemisphere, the 180th meridian does.
From Encyclopedia Brittanica:
"Because the 180th meridian passes through the state's Aleutian Islands, Alaska's westernmost portion is in the Eastern Hemisphere. Thus, technically, Alaska is in both hemispheres."

A BET championship game would be cool....BUT, I feel like tonight's game against UCONN, in particular, is a defining game. A win would be hugely validating. Loss passe....life goes on.
Other Madness games with this feel would be:
- first round loss - hugely invalidating :(
- second round win - hugely validating :) (sweet)
- E8 win - Cloud9 validating...cut the nets, final 4 (lets make a new intro video!)
- NCAA championship win - Well, mythical status.
Wins and losses in other games might be great or disappointing, but life goes on....but those games with those outcomes effect you.

Its one of those ones where if we lose after the fact I wont care much, bigger fish to fry.
But id be lying if I said I'd be anything less than stoked pulling this one out. And the fact its Uconn in "their arena" as Hurley called it. Makes me want it a little more.
I'm with you guys. We're playing in the Big East semis and they're gonna keep score, so I definitely want to finish with more points than UConn. I've been thinking about the game all day, getting in text chains with buddies. Definitely psyched to watch it.
But I really, really, really want to win multiple NCAA tournament games this year -- that was my realistic goal for the team coming into the season, and it's even more realistic now.
Obviously, those things are not mutually exclusive -- we can win the BET
and get to the FF. I'd also like the Marquette fans who traveled to MSG to be rewarded for their trek.
So while I will have no problem calling this season a great success if we win the outright BEast regular-season title (already accomplished) and advance at least to the Sweet 16 even if we lose tonight ... damn, I'd sure rather win tonight!!
And yes, as tower said, please please emerge from this healthy.
Can all you MFers stop talking about I hope we stay healthy. Thats some bad juju.

Got offered a boosted parlay.
Felt great about Purdue and Bama today so decided to toss Uconn in as minor pity consolation should we lose.
Hopefully the $500 ticket gets shredded in about 3.5 hours.
I'm not one to say "playing with house money" but I only see opportunity for MU tonight. It would be incredible to go get this one and it'd be a another feather in the cap for this amazing season, but a loss here and I'm quickly flipping the page to the NCAAs.

I am 100% focused on the NCAA because I think they have an opportunity that does not happen often. They have a chance to advance a long way this season and hope they can cross the finish line. I firmly believe that I might not ever see an MU team that is blessed with this chemistry. This does not happen by accident, and more importantly, it does not happen very often.
That being said, I am going to cheering very loudly from spot in front of the TV tonight. The guys earned the right to fight for whatever goals they set out to accomplish.

I agree with the special chemistry this year's team has exhibited and exceeding expectations, but I don't think it's lightning in a bottle. I think Shaka has installed that culture in the program and will continue to bring in players that fit the culture.

I would like to see us win because so many pundits taking UConn.

Let them combine teams. I would still take our team

Good takes - we'll also need Jop to knock down some shots and I'll think Chase will be a factor.
I could've done a better job than Jimmy Jackson tonite. 🧐
You can tickets for the final for $31 now that UConn is out.
THAT was a Big East semifinal game.

Anyone wanna donate to tomorrows fund???
X and Creighton are playing basketball. I guess
Are there Marquette sections? Heading up form DC for the game tomorrow. Just wondering where MU's ticket allotment is.
Ok, X playing now
We have blood. Big East tournament
Desmond Claude gonna be a problem
X up 14 at half
The 'Ton needed to win the first 4 minutes and didn't. Looks like X tomorrow
Xavier pulling the plug on Steele and bringing Miller back was quite the coup
X should be mentioned as a Final 4 team
X is looking good. What a game putting it on Creighton. 55-39 atm. 12:30 le

So does Nunge.
Confederates
Both X and C look gassed.
Creighton puts the bench in down 20, Miller leaves his starters in to play clock killer ball. Stay classy Sean

Let him tire them out for tomorrow.
I'm glad we're playing X. Regardless, I think we're a #2 seed.
X looked good but man CU looked baaaaad. Didn't run any offense and had zero interest in playing any defense

Me, on the other hand, expect UConn to prevail. They're one of the 5teams I think can win it all, along with Houston, Texas. Bama & Kansas.
And a 6th ... say it with me, my friend ...

Creighton's offense has been a problem at times all year. Hard to believe

I have my reasoning for who I think can win it all. No doubt Quette can make the Final 4.
Howeva, I'll happily be wrong if they win it all

He's been inconsistent all season with his shooting.
I said from day 1 and believed it all along. A team that finished in the 50s in KenPom and only brought in a mid major transfer was overrated when they were a top 5 preseason team? Color me shocked.
They have no depth and can't shoot. That's a bad combination.
Top 25 team? Yes. Top 10? No way.

Sure has been. Have talent on that team. Feels like a lost season

McDermott biggest failure this year has been developing a solid bench - they have some good freshman, but he's chosen to rely on the starters too much.
For those that have attended previous games of the tourney, is it hard to move down to lower sections when seats are open, or are the ushers pretty strict and guard the lower sections?

In addition to Mustang Harry's, any other spots you meet up before the game tonight? I'm with my 16 year old son.

It's a bar and restaurant, I don't think you guys would have problems.
Mustang Harry's was extremely crowded yesterday, we left. Too jammed, couldn't find any of the included food being passed around Ended up at some place the other side of MSG called Lucy's or something like that, there were some other MU fans there.

I'm told that thur was the first time MU sold out Harry's in NYC. We have too many fans to be contained by one place!

That's awesome. Would be nice to own NYC during tournament week. Might have to pull the trigger on this one finally
Same experience. Got to Harrys fairly early Wednesday and were treated to apps galore. Yesterday, got there later and was too packed Went after the game though and had a million apps (which was mostly mozz stix as I had to turn down meat)
Marquette Fans: You can't stop 'em, you can only hope to contain 'em!
