@ scrimmage...no joplin?
He's with Sacar.
No Jop, Ellis, or Ross. Joplin and Ross have minor injuries

Would appreciate hearing your takes on the scrimmage..please share with Scoop.
Blue: Kam, oso, Kolek, wrightsell, and 2 Walk ons
Vs
Gold: Sean, Gold, itejere, Omax, Stevie
Shaka repeats line about oso being a ballhandler.. says were playing faster this season than last season
Shaka said Jop back in the near future...referenced ellis coming back as well. Obviously not sure what "back" means.
TAMU...what do you make of the ellis comment?

He's redshirtting
Osos first drive...dribbles oof his foot oob, lol
Kams even crafter. Koleks passes are crisp and hebswished his first three
Blue just throttling Gold. 17 to 4
Kam noticeably stronger and better...no doubt.
Oso looking like Kuath early, no easy shots at rim

Is he attacking the paint a bit?

25 to 4 now
Gold goes on a 14 to 4 run to end the (12 minute) half. 28 to 18 Blue
How does Jones the Younger look?

How's his offense?
So far what we saw last season, in the right spot for an easy dunk. A few nice passes put of the post

Yes very aggressive driving and has finished more than he hasn't

Excellent. Ty TAMU. Kam improving is enormous for us moving forward.

Quick. A nice stop and pop from about 18. Drive with a nifty reverse layup around Zach. Made at least one dumb turnover and one extremely dumb turnover. Still a frosh but he'll play a lot
Keeyan is not ready offensively but can hold his own defensively. Can guard 1 thru 5.
Oso just dunked on Golds head for an and one
Gold team can't buy an outside bucket...actually Stevie just hit one. Blue hitting everything.
Sean with a nice drawn change on Oso
Wrightsil looks stronger than I expected.
I expect we will play our four guards s lot. What are you all seeing from Zack?? Ty.
Stevie offense is improves. Omax not having a good scrimmage, looks the same as last season
It looks like they fixed Koleks shot. Getting more arc than last season

Can guard everyone on our roster. He's strong but don't know how he'll handle the bruisers. Confident ball handler but seems a touch slow

BAM. We need the kid
Sean heating up. Back to back threes
Final after 24 minutes, 65 Blue (Kolek, Kam, Oso, Zach, John Lucas) 46 Gold (Sean, Gold, Stevie, Omax, Keeyan)
Any opinion on da cheerleaders, hey?

A little surprised by the seeming ease the Blue team had against Gold. TAMU - What did you see as far as the biggest difference between the two teams/cause for the domination by Blue?

Young MU is correct also shooting. Gold could t hit the three til late in the second half. Blue hit everything. Even Lucas was 2/2 from deep. I'll type up more thoughts later
Ty all for your insights.
Sounds like what I expected from a lot of the guys. Expecting Sean Jones to be a major contributor from day one. Expecting things to not go well if we're running our offense through Oso/he's handling the ball. Expecting Gold to be a bit player year one.

The same age as your grandchildren.
I thought it was a really nice event. Pretty simple, but a great way to meet the team. I thought Shaka's intro of each player was nice.
Not much to add, but I hope the poor free throw shooting was due to nerves/rust. I think Oso is going to make a nice jump. He seems to have the Ellenson green light to bring the ball up if he gets a rebound.
Wrightsill was thicker and shorter than I expected. For some reason I was expecting a Trend Blackledge body type.
Overall fun event. Was able to snag a picture with Shaka and my daughter. The autograph line was fun. The players were engaging with our 2 year old. Seems like a really fun group to root for.
Only 3 guys attempted a ft. And FTs no matta
Please post the stat sheet like you did on Dodds site.
Kam and Stevie were standouts today.
Zach is strong, will be fine.
Gold 0-3 or 0-4 from deep.
Sean is very quick....made a few nice 3s.
Tyler played well also.
Happy to see some familiar posters were there. Kam just shot amazingly well. He seems stronger and trying harder on defense. Sean Jones is going to be playing a lot. Both Wrightsil and Omax looked better as the game wore on. There was a lot of effort out there. I did not know about walk on Jonah Lucas from West Lafayette Indiana. He held his own in this scrimmage which was nice to see. He probably will not be out there that much in regular games but I will definitely be rooting for him. Stevie and Tyler looked good on defense. Tyler had a lot of excellent passes. Big men were so so. We will need help underneath.
I like OMax's game...what he did today he can do against anyone. He didn't play great, but he'll be on the court for many reasons.
Kam looked really good...stronger and even more confident. The sh1t he was doing in warm-ups (1 v 1 move then pull up nba 3) was done with ease and at a nba level %.
Oso is what we have down low. He needs to board, block, and dunk.
Wrightstill (sp?) looked short to me...plays strong...will need him to rebound obviously.
Really wanted to see Jop...Shaka's words on Kam and Jop seem to indicate they'll have green lights...and both had good summers.
TK was TK...shot was better...no reason he shouldn't take a step forward. He'll be on the court.
Stevie played well...just has to hit the open 3.
I liked Sean Jones...not to go all herman...but guy has thighs of a running back. He has the physical make-up of a BEAST guard already. 3 and D is all we need from him this year. His strength and athleticism should allow him to be a great defender if he wants to be.
Young team...good kids...good coach...should be years of fun ahead of us. Great to be watching college Bball again.

Tyvm for your insights Avid. It's no secret that we need to rebound the ball and find a way to defend the interior. That said it sounds like our guards are pretty solid and multidimensional.
I hope everyone is ready for what to expect from Gold.
Yikes.

Looks like my FT observation was wrong. Too much time trying to spot Iggy.
How will our seeding be impacted by scrimmage?
If Stevie can develop a shot he's gonna be special. He's a demon on ball defender with absolutely zero fear. We learned that as he was chirping Curbello as a freshman last year. He's fun as hell to watch hound a guy.
One wonders why OMax is taking 3's.

Why I've never seen the NBA hype with him. Have to be able to shoot in today's game.
Omax shot 82% from the FT last year. College Free Throw percentage is the single biggest indicator as to a future NBA players NBA three point success.
As for his other traits, finished last year as marquette best on ball defender (minus Stevies 10% of minutes). He was out with a knee injury early in the summer that kept him from going to play with Canada. Today, he probably was the only Starter on his team during a scrimmage where he had 11-8 playing below his average.
OMax is the Mope's new poster child. Gold in second place.

Interesting apportionment of playing time. I wonder if that means Shaka plans to play everybody the exact same number of minutes this season.
But seriously, folks ...
TAMU wasn't lyin' about the Blue squad's shooting.

Wouldn't three point percentage be the best indicator of future nba three point success ?

No, not enough volume usually.

No, there have been multiple math based studies on it because it has been something NBA circles have said for 20+ years.
https://sites.dartmouth.edu/sportsanalytics/2018/02/10/better-indicator-of-nba-success-foul-shooting-or-three-point-shooting/
It has less to do about volume as it once did, and more to do with isolates the players' shooting stroke.
