Trouble in Badger land. Not making trip to Iowa tonight.Rumors of a transfer
-
He's their best player.
-
I’d assume King and the Davis brothers know each other. Any idea if they’re close/King had any influence on their deciding on UW?

With Kobe Bryant's death, King realized he was not living up to his namesake and must transfer.

Such a bad look. Between Katz, Showalter and the Herro Twitter murder Wisconsin cannot handle transfers.
-
Greg Gard is UW's Hank Raymonds. A good guy who is a decent coach, but pales in comparison to his predecessor. He's just not as good of a coach.
But even then, Bo won the most when he had top players. He had two first round picks on his Final Four teams in addition to a solid PG and wing player. He wasn't working magic with a bunch of nobodies those years.
-

Comments dragging Herro for "playing for the name on the back of the jersey not the front". These people man

I haven't watched the Badgers much, other than the MU game. Is Kobe King any good? Would we want him at MU? His numbers aren't exactly awe inspiring. And he wasn't really considered a big deal coming out of HS.
But we could use a wing player and certainly have the scholarships. Would he fit our offense? Can he shoot?

I wonder if he's good enough that UW boosters will pay him to not come to MU? Maybe he wants to come but his mom doesn't want him to? Doesn't have the grades to get into UW?
Just trying to cover all the bases that need to be covered.

A silent verbal to MN would make me laugh

Or iowa. Or ohio state. Or any other program that bucky has poached from the last few years.

Not particularly.
Would we want him at MU?
I don't see why
But we could use a wing player and certainly have the scholarships. Would he fit our offense?
Maybe
Can he shoot?
No
-
Thanks.
If he can't shoot, then how could he fit our offense?
I suppose Sacar used to not be able to shoot, and now he's great at it.
I guess I'm just wondering if I should care if he transfers here or not. It'd be fun to take him from UW, but not if he sucks.
-

He doesn't suck, but he's not better than what's on the team currently.

He has the look of a good player, size, athleticism, form, confidence etc. He should be special but he's just not that good. He'd be a nice addition to be first off the bench but I doubt he's the kind of guy to embrace that role.
People on here would be losing their marbles if they had to see him start for us & throw up some bricks or make bad decisions. Ain't no way he should be a top scoring option on a decent high major team.
-
Such a bad look. Between Katz, Showalter and the Herro Twitter murder Wisconsin cannot handle transfers.
Sorta like they can't handle it when it is pointed out that they don't have higher academic standards. It upset their narrative and they have meltdowns.
-

Combine that with how they treated Wes, Vander, Herro, the Hausers and their families.
-
What would be hilarious is if Kobe King would be granted a waiver and not have to sit out a year due to the fact he is being harassed. I see him being a star
at UWGB
-

This.
Greg is better (though seemingly fragile), and I'd hope MU is aiming higher than King in filling out the roster. He was ranked 197th out of high school, and to me that is about his level.

Why do you think Greg is better? He hasn't shown it on the court.

That’s his worst ranking, and I think he got dinged a bit committing very early.
He’s a decent player who could have a well-defined role to showcase himself for Europe.
-

As noted in the Fire Gard thread, Elliott is a far better shooter, equal rebounder, is a better passer (more assists per minute, better ast/TO ratio), and has more steals per minute and game. Not sure about defensively, the advanced stats would have to answer that one, though he fouls less frequently the King. None of the difference are huge, except for 3-point shooting, but they all consistently tip in Greg's favor.

"Another sharp accusation from King was that he said he felt like a servant, like he was being used to win games and nothing more."
Wow.... God forbid anyone would ever get recruited to a team because they thought you might be able to help them win games.

"Servant" is a hot-button word, with a connotation that goes way beyond just helping win games.
Whether he actually was treated like that, felt like that, or whatever, none of us knows.

Hmmm Andy Katz didn’t mention this tidbit when ripping the kid.

Interesting development.
-
Local news showed high (or low)lights from the Minny game last night, but no mention of this allegation. Just sweep it all under the rug, nothing to see here.
Gard's statement is horrible, at least word your answer better.
This will really help already poor race relations at the Land Grant university, if the allegations are true.
-
That’s an allegation Kobe better be truthful about. I’m all for the Badgers basketball program imploding but if he’s making this allegation up in an attempt to get immediate eligibility next season, that’s inexcusable.
There are many things unlikeable about that program but this is the first time a player has accused the program of something like this. I hope it’s not true because it’s 2020 and it’s unacceptable. If it turns out to be true, good luck to them moving forward because without a lot of consequences, they’d be dead in the water

That precedent was set by Justin Fields transferring from UGA to OSU for football. It wasn't a staffer, but a UGA baseball player using a racial slur. That was ammunition his attorney used for a waiver.

Potrykus said their strength coach is on administrative leave. Not sure if that’s standard for any investigation.

The program, yes. But the university has had its share of racism incidents. It's something the leadership of the university needs to tackle, or risk losing out on potential students (including student athletes).
One of my Latina students visited Marquette and Madison over the weekend and when I asked her about the two schools her first comment was "Madison was so white." Marquette, on the other hand, felt more open to her.

At least they won’t photoshop Kobe into a picture to show diversity. Probably

turnover rate and usage I think are two things you need to look at.

From experience, is it isn't uncommon for kids to throw allegations out to see what works (verbal abuse is the most common one). Kin will need to get substantiating documentation of this happening. Fields should have never been granted a waiver. Georgia was such a hostile environment they kicked the baseball player off the team and canceled his scholarship, and Fields' sister signed to play softball there. The waiver process in these situations has been tightened up because people realized they'd been played by Fields and his attorney. King is playing with fire here.

It’s behind a paywall and I can’t read it but it sounds like the strength coach repeated a speech he heard in the nba that included the n-word when dealing with a walk on. The player was offended and the coach apologized. King told the story in his exit interview

Sounds like you are accusing the kid of being a liar despite not knowing a single thing about the alleged incident.

Well based on this quote from King's departing statement I doubt Welland (S&C coach) is the culprit:King thanked numerous people in his Instagram post, including Helland.
"I also want to thank our strength trainer Coach Helland and my academic advisors."

He didn’t travel with the team to Minnesota last night and is on administrative leave. It coincided with King’s exit interview.
That said, I agree that it’s odd Kobe mentioned him in his IG post.

11:36 am, channel 27 posted the story online. So....you were right.

no, but I'm saying he's playing with fire if it's not true. I hear all kinds of accusations of "abuse," followed by "is this enough to get a waiver?" Then those allegations cannot be substantiated.
I look at the Fields case and shake my head at how brazen he and his lawyer were in painting Georgia as "racially hostile" when they took severe action against the one individual and his family thought it was a perfect environment for their daughter to play and attend school, and how gutless the NCAA was in granting him the waiver.

Potrykus had an interesting tweet string. The coach admitted the mistake, apologized, and talked with the team. The interesting thing is that he had comments saying it was all good until Kobe King brought it up on his way out.
They are acting like King is out there shouting it from the rooftops. In reality, he just brought it up in an exit interview it sounds like. They are really working overtime to paint King in a bad light.

Even more interesting: King wasn’t present. The statement was to,d to him second hand. And, he waited a few weeks before deciding to quit. He’s just angling for a waiver. Sad all around.

I hope he gets the waiver.
Everybody should get a waiver from a stupid rule.

Is there any evidence of that? We have no idea how it got brought up in the exit interview.

King's own words.

I meant the part this is solely due to him trying to get a waiver. We don’t know how this issue was brought up.

So we're comparing Kobe to Joey? Just one more kid using a bogus argument to get a waiver.

Well said, Sultan.
I will relish watching their slide into mediocrity.
If Marquette hired Dukiet as a young Al McGuire does UW - Madison scour the massage parlors in college towns for the next Bo Ryan?
-
how brazen he and his lawyer were in painting Georgia as "racially hostile”
I heard they played Neil Young in the background as the lawyer painted the horrific image of an antebellum nightmare as the young man sobbed heavily into his hands in the hope of deliverance to the Promised Land that is Columbus Ohio
