Too bad it's only for students
I'll show my age by asking a question: Is this considered a big deal? Like getting the Stones to Madness during Al's time?
T-Pain was big when I was at Marquette but that was ten years ago. Unsure now.

Although that

T-Pain's autotune app for the iPhone set records about ten years ago. I seem to recall (though can't confirm) in 2009 or 2010 nearly 80% of iPhones in use had downloaded the app (granted this would have been during the early adopter stage).
He also won the first season of Masked Singer (US version) earlier this year.
Sure, he's no Drake, but MU isn't going to shell out six figures to bring in A-level talent.

I guarantee you've heard his stuff.
As for it being a big deal, I'm not 18-20, so I'm not sure, but he's one of the most insanely prolific songwriters/performers of the modern era. He has 20 top 25 singles, he basically singlehandedly brought Autotune to the mainstream as an artistic device instead of a crutch, and also wrote/produced another 20 songs you have likely heard on the radio or in public. He's been quiet recently, but I guarantee every student there goes crazy to a few of his songs.
His NPR Tiny Desk performance is fantastic if you're into that sort of thing. It was basically "those who think I can't sing without Autotune, you'd be absolutely wrong"

He's a great performer and is a good get IMO.

Did something happen with T-Pain?
I've seen a few posts on Twitter that he got pissed and walked off stage. Haven't seen the Marquette account post any pictures or video of him...
@gurmansr
T-Pain just referred to all of us as a**holes. Marquette Madness done right
@Zarathak23
Dude T-Pain walked off the stage at the marquette basketball thing tonight and said "f**k Marquette" lmaoooooooooo
@Zarathak23
Ive just heard 3rd hand but apparently the students weren't reacting to the music at all so got pissed and left lololololol
@Kolohe_Gabbs
Yo whoever f**king disrespected @TPAIN tonight at Marquette Madness and made him get off the stage

@timmylawder
Sorry @TPAIN that the front was dry. We were holdin it down in nose bleeds.

Should have invited House of Pain instead.
Lol irrelevant rapper gets mad that students who probably heard 2 of his songs ever got mad they didn't respond well to his irrelevant music? Rip.
So if the guy has become a past-tense big deal rapper, does MU get bonus points for dissing him?

Maybe MU should have just done the stripper pole thing like Kansas.
A quick Google search revealed that this isn't the first time he has walked off the stage during a show for being "disrespected." Like in Denver back in February.
I hope MU had the foresight to make his contract contingent on him finishing the set.

Why you can't stand all rappers? Pretty broad brush ya have there. Every genre of music has a-holes, but me thinks when you call out one genre for being entitled or "hot $hit", ya might want to check some biases you may have.

Next year, MU needs to bring in an old-school, dependable rock band like Guns n Roses.

I don't know if you're trying to imply that it's racial because that's what seems to be the insinuation but just to knock that off I'll happily listen to NWA, Nas, OutKast etc. I'll also happily listen to Lenny kravitz, prince, Hendrix, a lot of blues artists, etc. so again just going to nip that racial insinuation in the bud right now.

I almost went to that concert, was glad I didn't next morning lol.
From what I heard from a couple students basically he played a bunch of new music that no one knew. Even mixed Buy you a drink with a new song that was a weird combo. Ended up playing for 20 minutes left the stage and came back 5 minutes later but no one was feeling it anymore and left to go get late night breakfast.
Also the students were told that T Pain would be on at 9 but they didn't start introducing the teams till 9:15 so T Pain didn't come on till like 10:20.

Maybe MU should have just done the stripper pole thing like Kansas.
So after being caught up in in an FBI probe into corruption and bribery, and after the NCAA issues a notice of allegations involving three Level I violations, Kansas decides that Snoop Dogg should help launch the 2019 season.
That's Snoop Dogg, as in, the megastar rapper who's a former gang member.
And a convicted drug dealer.
Who's best known for his sexist and misogynistic lyrics.
Who's been banned from entering three different European countries.
Who's an award-winning porn producer.
This is the guy you decide to bring into your showcase event? And then Bill Self has the sheer audacity to claim that Snoop's act -- complete with pole dancers and a money gun -- wasn't "the direction that anybody at our school would want"? The same Bill Self who denies NCAA claims of lack of institutional control?
Come on now. There's hard to believe. And then there's just plain bulls**t.

They should ask for a refund from 'T Pain' AND 'Lovely the Band'. Lovely was horrendous, I think the lead singer thought he was getting paid by the F-word. I was praying he would pull a T-Pain and walk out early!
On the other hand, Alessia Cara is VERY talented and put on a good show at the FiservForum, once the stage was fumigated following the Lovely performance.

For the second show, around Thanksgiving, tickets went on sale when Radio Doctors on 3rd and Wells opened at 9:00 in the morning. I stood in line from 11pm, first in line. Waited 10 hours and by the time the doors opened there where 4 additional people in line. Not quite the widespread enthusiasm I had expected.

"Not very good" rappers don't have multiple Grammys and a dozen Top 10 singles. I'd agree he's past his prime and acted like an ass, but using it to pretend like he's a nobody or "bad" is absurd. Dude is hands down one of the most influential artists in hip hop and R&B in the last 15-20 years.

Wiz hasn't done much of anything lately either. He hasn't had a hit single since the track with Charlie Puth from Fast 5. He's just from Pittsburgh so it makes sense, otherwise he wouldn't have created a major buzz either
