My wife is due with our first child today. The doctor today strongly recommended she get induced because she's over the age of 35. She's been against this, but he talked about enough risks that she decided to change her mind.
When the doctor walked out of the room to let us make a decision, her first question was "what time is the game tomorrow?" After a brief discussion, she scheduled our trip to the hospital for tomorrow at 7. Late enough that we can go close the BC one last time before getting ready to meet our little Warrior.
That woman is amazing. (I even told her I can watch the game later, but she pushed for afterwards)
Congrats Brew and good luck! If labor gets long and they offer a C-section, do it! My wife was induced with our first and ended up having a CS about 24 hours later. She regrets not doing it a few hours sooner, when they first offered it.
Fantastic. Congratulations Brew.
Haha she is amazing because she is delivering your child. Remember that in case her water breaks at noon tomorrow and you miss the game entirely.
Congratulations.

Congrats Brew! I am thinking the name should come from whoever is the STOG

If she reely luved MU, the babe should be named Hagens Brew, aina?
Seriously, you have to wonder about a couple that would let an event like this interfere with the most important time of the year for Marquette basketball. Talk about priorities!

Hey, when you're at the hospital, hop into Game Chat and give us a play by play.
My wife (also an MU alum) had to visit her 91-year-old father at the assisted living facility today and she got there with about 5 minutes left in the first half. Watched the rest of the game there.
Here is our actual text thread:
Her, sent at halftime: "Not exactly impressive, huh?"
Me: "We got this!"
Her, a few minutes into the second half: "Meh."
Me: "We got this!"
Her: "OMG ... look at Rowsey!"
Me: "We got this!"
Her, just after the final horn: "Phew!"
Me: "We got that! Never a doubt!"
OK, so not quite as cool as having a baby after watching an incredible win. Damn brewski always has to top the rest of us.
Enough of the bubble watch threads. We need a Brewbaby watch thread.

In all seriousness, if you head out to get food, make sure you check back in regularly. For one of my kids, we were in L&D for about 4 hours, and they told me we had at least 3-4 hours before birth. I took about 45 minutes to get food, and things sped up while gone. I got back with about 15 minutes to spare.

This is longer than usual because of the inducement. They started with the first drug last night that prepares the body to give birth. She was on that for 13 hours before they started anything else.
They started with a really slow pitocin drip this morning to start the contractions. They built steadily through the day, but everything kind of slowed down around 6 pm (9 hours into pitocin). We're now 13 hours into pitocin and 26 overall. Going to try to nap and hoping for the next few hours.

Well, that's depressing.
I admit I'm not big on babies. When my wife was pregnant with our first, friends who recently had kids were always offering to let me hold their babies. I was like, "No thanks ... I can wait for my own."
For a couple years, they're mostly needy, crying, puking, crapping machines. C'mon ... all y'all parents know it's true.
But after a couple years they start to get personalities, and then it becomes a blast. I loved ages 3 to about 12, and I liked the several years after that. Yeah, there's some drama during the teen years and into the 20s, but nothing we all couldn't survive as a family. My kids turned out great -- my wife gets 80% of the credit, and luck gets 19.9% of it. (I'll accept 0.1%.)
And yes, when my daughter had senior day for the last home basketball game of her career, I cried like one of those babies I used to have no use for!
It does go by too freakin' fast!!!
Oh ... and brewski ... keep those updates coming!!

Then you realize how much you miss them.
I'll take anytime but Middle School -- that was miserable.
We still talk fondly of our son's imagination as a child (it was very large), our daughter's learning to speak English (she was an overseas adoption) or learning to tie her shoes etc and a host of other great memories. They're a hoot!
People will say "x was my favorite age". I had only one, a now 18yr old daughter.
I can honestly say, every age was my favorite. She's an awesome kid and wasn't difficult. Potty training was interesting, but other than that, she was a dream to raise.
Hope you have a similar experience Brew!

This is accurate. I look at photos of when my daughter's (20 & 17) were little and it seems like forever ago. I think about them in middle school and it seems like a year ago.
We have 9, 7 & 5 right now and I'm convinced this is the best time.
They're like three little roommates. I cynically say we're between diapers & drugs. They're all grown enough to be independent but innocent enough that real world problems like drugs etc aren't a concern.
I'm looking forward to middle school, HS etc but I'm also realistic of the issues those present. As my Mom likes to say: bigger kids, bigger problems.
Our daughter was born at 4:47 am. She was stubborn coming out, but finally greeted the world. My wife hasn't settled on a name yet. We have a narrowed list, we'll see what she decides on.
Aside to tower...that felt just like a busy night at work. Got two hours of sleep, got up for an hour of pushing, another 20 minutes of sleep, back up for an hour, slept a third time, then up from about 1 am on.

Thanks for all the kind words. So far, so good. Mother in law came over so I could get some rest today in hopes of letting Holly sleep through the night. 2 hours did wonders.
Want to hand out two compliments:
First, to Brew for having the guts to start a thread on Scoop titled, "Why my wife is awesome." Daring, daring move, Brew. I question your judgment, but not your guts.
Second, to Scoop which, except for just one exception (I think), behaved itself. Brew has a hell of a lot more confidence in all of us miscreants than I do, and frankly, I'm still surprised that we rose to the occasion.
Wen talkin' conception and such, risin' too da occasion kant bee minimized, hey?

Oh it hits even earlier than that, we're in the midst of the "terrific two's" which has manifested in one, of many, ways such that when my wife comes home from work on her late nights our son immediately says "I don't want mommy to come home". I then get an earful about how she didn't get cut open "from stem to stern" to get pushed out of her own home.

Once when chick jr. was about that age, she told me that she want to go live at the babysitter's house. After I got past the initial knife wound to the heart, I calmly said, "But if you did that, I would miss you. "
She replied very nonchalantly, "Just go to the store and buy a new little girl."
After 57 hours, my daughter is finally Greta True Bykowski. Safe to say there will be no red for Greta either. The only red item I agreed to was UW fleece to cut into diaper wipes so I could wipe her ass with a Wisconsin logo every day. Alas, my wife couldn't find a Wisconsin pattern at JoAnn fabrics so it's llamas and elephants instead.

Dang, I think you are correct. Good catch. No wonder I couldn't find an example anywhere on the search engine. Still a great idea, even if it came from a sitcom. I suppose the licensing issues would prevent it. Can't imagine any team allowing its logo on the inside.
Anyway, a new life is on the board, and I'm very happy for Clan Brew.

Our oldest was two when our younger daughter was born. The first time I took her to the hospital to see her little sister, she took one look at the baby then said "don't bring it home." It?!?
Over the years, we learned it was only the beginning....
Brew:
0-9 nine months : Lots of fun because baby basically is in crib etc. and cant destroy anything yet.
9 months to 2 years: Baby is mobile and causes havoc every waking moment.
2 -4 years. Some good moments but lots of discipline . Mrs. Brew will be pulling her hair out every time she goes to store with baby.
4-13 is a good stretch run. Your Daughter will worship you during this time period. At around 11 you will start hearing how they change and break away, and you will say that can't happen to me. It will happen and don't take it personally.
13-19 Daughter wants nothing to do with you ( or her mother). Audit her friends through other parents and stay one step ahead.
19 She starts coming back in the fold. First she realizes Mom and Dad control pocketbook, so some revisionist history of prior years occurs to ensure funds flow through college.
22- Back to being good friends.
13! Not. Give to about 11 on the Herman scale!

Somewhere between 11 and 13, aliens show up in a spaceship and steal your daughter. They leave behind an alien child that is not happy with you (to say the least).
Then, around age 22 or 23, the spaceship 🚀 comes back, and gives you your daughter back. She will be best friends with you and your wife. You will be "smart" again
Damn aliens.
