Title: Can't wait for Rowsey to be gone
Post by: mujersey on February 26, 2018, 07:27:25 PM
They say on TV he's running the offense?  Stupid, forced shots without passing and working for a good shot is not running an offense.  Then a dumb bump for a foul on offense.  Ugh!!!

If we don't get a transfer to play the point, you're gonna miss Rowsey, dumb mistakes and all.

Hold off on the tar and feathers till an end of season scoop thread covering the season. Rowsey is an asset.

Next season will be better though.

I thought Howard played composed. Some nice passes; one to Froling that resulted in a foul, and one to Rousey for.a.open three ehich he.missed. Howard as a PG on the offensive side does not worry me.

Rowsey hit some big shots tonite n i will forever love the kids stones.  Yet he makes so many errors and turnovers on offense and takes some really poor shots. Alot of those big shots, if we just moved the ball better someone else could make the shots.  I love the kid, but i think we can ultimately do better at the position, unfortunately the answer is not Howard either

Lots of people have shared the same sentiment about Rowsey's frustrating style of play, but when it comes down to it, he's an asset to this team. His pull up 3's and hero ball can make even his biggest fan pull their hair out at times, no doubt, but he's a fun kid to watch. He brings a competitive edge that I don't think anyone else has, and that makes a big difference for us as a team.

Agreed! And if that is your criteria, in two years he has turned the ball over 140 times. Dwyane Wade had 203 turnovers in two years and he AVERAGED more than 3 turnovers a game. When you need to make things happen you are going to have turnovers. I agree some of his shots were bad, but our guys couldn't seem to catch a pass during the first half. Don't get me wrong, Sam Hauser is our best player as I wrote this morning and his 7 of 8 on three-pointers takes him to 54.4 percent in Big East play.

But we would have lost more games without Rowsey on the floor.  Also, he had a ton of people up from Lexington, Virginia and elsewhere in Virginia provide a great cheering boost and we were behind the bench and heard down the stretch. Maybe he forced it a bit with the nice home crowd on the road, but in the end he brought through the win.

I hope he has a great sendoff as the only senior vs Creighton.

Probably the worst player in the history of Marquette basketball. Points and assists ... so overrated.

And what's with that hair!

If I were Wojo, I wouldn't even wait for next year. I'd just cut him now.

Wait ... that's not good enough. Banish him from campus.

No ... still not enough. Make him have lunch with guru on a "cranky guru day."

Never said that.  Said with all the offensive firepower we had that Heldt was a better fit at the 5 due to his defensive abilities.  Low and behold Wojo made the move near the end of the season and the teams fortunes changed as we rallied for spme big wins and an NCAA birth

Rowsey is easily the most entertaining player on this team. Sure, he takes some bad shots and forces things, but you cant deny we play so much better when he's playing well and getting others involved. The heart and fire he plays with will be sorely missed next year. He's always the one to bring us out of large slumps like tonight when GT went on a 21-3 run.

Second, I'm so sick of people acting like Markus Howard is less of a problem than Rowsey. He is the biggest ball hog, shot happy player on this team. I can't stand watching him play hero ball. This team needs either a grad transfer or Greg Ellliott to play PG next year or we're not going far. I love him to death, but he plays a very selfish style of basketball that benefits him, but won't translate into team success. The guy's hashtag on social media is #LeagueME for christ sake.

Don't disagree with a lot of this, but LeagueMe is a basketball training company run by his older brother.

He is too selfish right now but he can improve as a PG the same way that Rowsey has

Tonight was not the night to rip on Rowsey.

But, I'll say this,
Andrew is a very hot and cold player.  He has been both frustrating and explosive.
He has won games for us and he has lost games for us.

Great shooter (can be streaky).
Can be a good passer (not often enough).

Horrible defender (all of the time).
Poor shot selection (too often).
Loose handle (not what we envision a point guard to be).

Instead of leading by example in a game MU could not afford to lose, he absolutely set the tone for the DePaul game with his 2 fouls in the first 90 seconds.  (Not what you expect from a 5th year Senior.)

Tonight, the pluses outweighed the minuses.  On other nights, they have not.  Hoping we can find an adequate replacement!

Absolutely, putting all the eggs in the "Howard as PG" basket would be foolhardy, especially since he gets injured from time to time.

And thinking Elliott can become a PG will end up as "Cheatham as PG" 2.0.

Rowsey has swagger and moxy.  He can drive me crazy with his fouling and his drives to nowhere, but I feel better when he is on the court than not.  We will miss him next year, but everyone is replaceable to a degree.  Count me as someone that appreciates what he did for Marquette in his time here.

I think some of the Rowsey frustration stem from the fact that his errors are so easily identifiable, e.g., hero ball, chucking up a double-teamed three with 20 on the clock, etc., compared to the errors of other players, e.g., missing defensive assignments, not boxing out, etc.

Andrew will be greatly missed next year.  Think some underestimate his value to this team/program.  He's Travis Diener 2.0.

I sometimes wonder if Andrew might claw his way onto an NBA roster.  JJ Barea comes to mind as a comp.  Think Andrew is a little better athlete than people give him credit for - very quick and skilled with the ball.  Elite shooter.  Defensive side of the ball would be the problem of course..

Rowsey is a lightning rod for 99% of the fan base. While he frustrates me at times, often a lot of times, he is an entertaining college ball player. Furthermore, when he is good, he is a really good college ball player. Not sure I will miss him in two weeks, but likely will next season. Have to admit, I like his swagger. There is no doubt in my mind that the swagger comes from the core of his being. Would not be surprised to see him be a big success in his next chapter.

In the NBA, you are who you can guard.    He is 5'10 and not a natural PG.    Other than that, he should be a shoo in for the league.

This will not happen.  He is too small and too thin.

Good Offensive Rowsey will be missed. Defensive and Dribble/Chuck Rowsey not so much. I expect MU to take a step back on offense and a step forward on Defense next year. Whether he is missed depends on which side takes that bigger step.

I've been wrong before (especially about Buycks), but I don't think Rowsey can play in the NBA. Barea is very quick and is a willing defender, swoops in for steals and battles bigger players. It's just not who AR-30 is. I actually think Markus has a better chance to be a Barea type; at least he occasionally tries to get in somebody's way.

Having said that, I am thrilled that Wojo brought him on board. Contributed a lot to last year's NCAA tourney team, and we would have lost several more games without him this season.

As Goose said, for all of the frustrating things he does (and I think I swear at him a couple times every game - ha!), he is entertaining and tough and willing to take the big shot.

He will be missed.

Thankfully, this season is not over yet! Win a couple at MSG, then win a couple the following weekend!

We got this!!

Gonna miss that SOB. He had some real bonehead plays at times, but the majority of times he was the champion of "horrible shots" that went in.

That shot from the AL logo will definitely define his time at Marquette

He could at times drive you nuts, but no other player produced so many fantastic moments. His shortcomings (no pun intended) have been discussed in Scoop ad nauseam but he was still a great asset and will be missed. Maybe my favorite AR moment was after his block vs. GT as he completely deadpanned it as if to say "I do that all the time.

He was a gamer.

It is worth repeateding yet again to bust down another Scoop myth:  Drewski is the best MU offensive PG since Travis Diener.  Orating, assist rate, turnover rate and eFG%.

He will not be replaced next year but Wojo needs to get close.

Pretty much confirmation that many in our fan base greatly undervalue Andrew. He and Travis are very similar and had similar senior seasons.

Disagree.  We were lucky to have Rowsey and will miss him next year.

Ners isn't wrong on the offensive end of the bad. Similar ppg, similar rpg, and almost the exact same eFG%. Rowdy gets the edge in scoring but Travis was a significantly better distributor and floor general. He has more assists and less turnovers....and I think if he was passing to as good of offensive players as Rowdy has to pass to, I think his numbers could have even been better.

03-04 Travis: 34.2 mpg, 18.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.0 bpg, 2.4 tpg, 52.8 eFG%
17-18 Rowdy: 31.7 mpg, 19.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.0 spg, 0.2 bpg, 2.7 tpg, 52.9 eFG%

The biggest difference I believe is on the defensive end. I don't have advanced stats going back that far, but if my memory is correct Travis was a much much better defender than Rowdy and that's what will keep Rowdy out of the Association IMHO. The 2 inches Diener has on Rowdy I'm sure doesn't hurt either.

We will absolutely miss Rowdy next season. To think otherwise is absurd. We'll just miss him on one end of the floor.

Rowsey's next year will be very interesting.  He can go to Europe and make big money and "do what he does" or stay home and do G league and hope someone sees the JJ Barea in him.

All the other guys with his type game in the NBA are either 3 inches taller or better defenders or both.

Rowsey is actually a better shooter than Diener. His range is unlimited. Not as good a passer, 2 inches shorter. Neither were good defenders, Diener probably a little better. Don't see Rowsey in the NBA.

Diener didn't have Wade his last two seasons.  Rowsey has plenty of scoring options to distribute to.

Diener's senior year EFG% is within percentage points of Rowsey's and Diener was actually a better 3 point shooter - though not by much.  And even though he had a lower usage than Rowsey does this year, Diener was still a 23 ppg scorer and had an assist rate of 53.3%. (!!!)

I mean I like Rowsey but Diener was the better college player.

Diener averaged 19.7 ppg as a senior before he got hurt. He did average 23.2 per 40 mins.

Diener had one of the great 3-point shooters ever to pass to, but otherwise had role players and guys who didn't quite realize their potential (Mason, Amaroso).

Most importantly, don't ever forget that he had Niv Berkowitz to pass to!

Diener has way more non-shooting skills than AR.

Just watching him play point at the Old-Timers game as part of last year's 100th anniversary celebration was eye-opening.  Even with a bunch of old guys who had never actually played together, he distributed the ball brilliantly.

Wow.  Great list.  Four of my absolute favorites as well too.

Regarding Andrew vs Travis - Andrew is quicker than Travis, and I would say has a much better ability to create his own shot, than did Travis.  Travis was a better defender.  End of the day, think both Travis and Rowsey were underappreciated by some of our fans, and the fact we can have a legitimate debate about Rowsey vs Travis speaks to Andrew's talent.

Andrew will be greatly missed next year, despite whomever we might land in grad transfer market or incoming frosh.

The first of the 2 deep-deep-deep AR-30 treys, he was looking to pass, realized the clock was running out and it was almost as if he shrugged his shoulders and said, "What the hell" before launching it. As Bahe said, the incredible thing was that it didn't even look like it required effort, whereas that's usually a heave for most players. His second one was simply a cold-MF-blooded heat check. And he was still hot!

Was stewing about this topic because I was pissed off about it given all Rowsey's given us.
Went back to the post and noted the fact that the OP has 15 posts. I think it's a troll.
Unless it's Andrew himself wanting us all to support him (joke, I don't know how to make teal).

I thought about what I said about him in other posts and this topic. I remembered what I thought about a 5'10" (Ha!) traditional transfer from Asheville or wherever it was and what I expected out of him. He turned out to be the antithesis of Jamail Jones. I'm just not sure I can remember an MU player that exceeded my expectations more than this guy (Wade?) (Davante?).

The whole post title is a stupid, puerile, asinine insult.

One of the truly great shooters in Marquette history. And this year, Wojo has asked him to do other things too. While not perfect by any measure, he's taken the coaching, trusted his teammates, and led an incredibly young team to a .500 conference record and a certain post season berth. I hope he has a great last few weeks wearing the jersey.

One of my favorite memories of him was the first time I literally saw him on the court.  I don't remember which game it was, but it was during his transfer sit-out year.  He decided to get into it with one of the opposing players.  You couldn't tell what he was saying, but he had stood up in his dress pants and V-neck sweater and began walking towards the player, mouth going the entire time, and a couple of our other guys had to hold him back.  I remember thinking, "I'm going to like this guy.  He's a scrapper."

During his year out, I remember being told by several former players that he was the best player every day at practice. There is no doubt in my mind that the kid was born to play ball. IMO, if he was piece of a really good team, he would have been a big time fan favorite. He was forced, and he forced himself too much, to be have endeared himself to everyone. Like I have said for two years, the good Rowsey is a lot of fun to watch.

Take a look at the clock in the background on Jordan's dunk from the FT line.

Jordan's foot actually was on the FT line when he took off.

Reports that he leapt from behind the line ... fake news!

His whole career was a sham!!!!

I'm not recalling that.  Spectacular.  Somebody find and post that clip.
I was there and saw it. Al would have been proud.

You were also at the moon landing.  Commented on Armstrong's bad body language as he stepped on the surface.

You know, Polaroid, it's like a thing.  Like your Xerox machine and Kodak film for your camera.

Nice article on Andrew, with a nice quote from Mack.  One tidbit mentioned here is he broke the BE record for FT%.

Is MUJersey still around?  He's been awfully quiet since Andy went off for 26, 8 and 8 and was named BEast player of the week.

You are right about that. However, had Rowsey played for Al, there is no doubt that at some point in time, they would throw hands. And Al would have kicked his ass, and afterwards gave him a hug and shout out.

Do you even watch the games? Seems like a pretty significant portion of your commentary has nothing to do with basketball.

Read through my history. Very little whining. Maybe 3%-5% whining, but not much.
