Bigger than Nova.
After a real heartbreaking game at Providence, they came out and laid it to a struggling, but still very good Xavier team.

Yep. They'll be in the tourney in his 3rd year. I predicted they'd have the second best offense in the "bold prediction" thread before the year. I think that's where they'll end up. Great win.
Once Marquette gets some toughness they'll be very good. This is a very fun brand of basketball. Wojo will continue to attract high level recruits. Marquette will be a top 15 team (if healthy) all next year. I think they get another impact grad transfer.
I totally agree but at what point did u feel we were safe?

1. What does it matter?
2. Halftime.
Nova is better, but this is a huge road win. We're playing our best ball down the stretch, that mess of a Prov game notwithstanding.

If you can't see progress yet, you are willfully blind. VERY TRUE!
I get that you're baiting the trolls, but this win was not bigger than Nova. It was however a huge bounceback win and exactly the type of performance this team, program and fan base needed. Super pumped for senior day and March Madness!

No
Without Nova, the only initials in our post season would be NIT. Nova is why the committee will look at us. Period, and don't kid yourself.
Look, this team is wildly inconsistent. We beat Creighton, Villanova, Xavier and almost beat Butler on the road. But we lose to Providence twice, Georgetown once, St. John's once etc.
We are improving and I will say it again. I like what I see from Wojo's guys. We're getting stronger and better. Tonight was big but it is part of an entire body of work.
I am a Marquette Fan. I live by the old bromide uttered first by the inimitable Father Dan' Camera. It is applicable at any time and regardless of lead: "We have lost bigger leads". I think it is true in almost every game situation. As Marquette fans, I think we are never comfortable until the final horn.
We're dancing.
And this team could win a couple in the ncaas. Just keep winning.
They played hard on D, shot the lights out and withstood some absolutely horrid officiating in the second half. Wojo made all the right moves. Now on to Creighton and insure that bid.

I'm actually not baiting the trolls.
After Saturday, with the pressure of needing wins down the stretch, playing on the road in a building where MU has never won, they won.
I think this was bigger. The Nova win was awesome and will likely end up being the signature win of the season, but this one was more of a must win.

It would have been a must win...if not for our win against Nova. The fact is that erased a lot of our lapses this year. Not discrediting this win, but sans Nova, we'd have to win out AND do quite a bit of damage in the BET.

Unless we win it all, they will be back. Can't help themselves.
Let's face it. MU basketball this year was a real rollercoaster.
We want to be where (for example) Butler is. Our concerns down the stretch are which seed? Can we beat nova for the BE title. A loss is unexpected but we can live with it.
I think next couple of years perhaps. But now it's the emotional rollercoaster and don't fault fans for riding it. I'm feeling good. Im looking for a Creighton win. I'm looking for a trip to Indy (please get placed there).
You know what gentlemen? Wojo issued a huge challenge after this team was left for dead following GTown. We've won 3 of 4 and should be undefeated frankly. That's the best down the stretch ball Marquette has played since 2013.
Get a ticket Saturday. Scrap your comfortable sofa and 60 inch. They've earned your attendance if you're within a reasonable distance.
Nova was the biggest win by far. Lose to Nova and we probably would not be considered unless we made some noise in the BET...

I've seen all but one game (loss at Prov), and I know I'm not the only one here who has seen most or all of our games.
I've truly enjoyed the vast majority of this season. We play a fun, entertaining brand of hoops. Frustrating at times, but that's always the case.
I applaud the job Wojo has done. Two short years ago, we had ZERO chance and all we had was hope that it would get much, much better. And it has.

whats worse the trolls or the troll outrage?
Great game last night - good d and awesome shooting. KR really in a groove the last few games!
i would say this win was a real real close 2nd to nova because-
1) we really did NEED it
2) it showed we could WIN on the road and in a hostile place AND on their senior night
3) we did not wilt-what? the foul trouble-X was in the bonus at just under the 14 min. mark of the 2nd half. guys were accumulating fouls faster than a dude shot out of a procto exam. this has been the area we have typically have failed to seal the deal. some of the calls could have really demoralized-they didn't.
so what did we do? we shot the pi$$ out of the ball and the announcers were friggin impressed. and we didn't give them any reason to not be. every time X tried to make a run and keep their fans in their seats, that 17 year old, rouse, k-man, jjjjjjj, doogie, et.al. would throw in a "blue darter". there were many many moments in the game where i thought, here it comes-our 7 minute drought...IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! i was concerned because the announcers kept talking like we had this in the bag at like the 8-10 mark of the 2nd half, but...
think of this game this way-you are an outsider. you follow college ball more than the average fan. you're watching this game-it just had to grab you. it had to send a few shudders down your spine thinking your team has to play us. loved how the announcers drank the MU kool-aid for a change. i'll bet the X board is bitchin right now about the announcers being all MU-well it's about time we get some accolades, and so very well deserved, eyyn'a fellas?
Was it a big win? Yes. Signature win for Wojo? Debatable. I think Bucky on the road or Nova. The first Xavier win this year may have been a bigger win as it stopped a slide.
X is a wounded duck and is soldier crawling toward the finish line. This game was big in that this team finished off an opponent it should have.

we played great defense? We allowed 50+ points in the second half.
Here's what it really is... a clutch road win at crunch time against a team with a losing BE record who has lost 6 straight. But, it may be enough.

I understand what you are saying, but ...
There is a difference between being "frustrated at times" and in calling for the coach's head every time we lose. There is a difference between being frustrated occasionally - we all are - and saying that this kid sucks and that kid sucks and the whole team sucks. There is a difference between being frustrated and saying that we don''t even deserve to be on the bubble and that the program is going downhill.
Mostly, if you are going to come on here after a tough loss and create posts specifically to tear down the team, at least have the effen balls to come on here after a nice win to give a thumbs-up, to show some support, to take part in the fun - which is what being a fan is supposed to be about. Or even - god forbid - to admit you were wrong.
For all the silliness in many of MUFINY's posts, at least he admits he was wrong sometimes and at least he seems genuinely happy to see the team win.

Also, I've said it before, he's a good recruiter however I think he has a ton of room for improvement in terms of in-game coaching. So you don't like Wojo, so who do you Like. Seems like year 3 and getting to Dance is a good thing. What were you expecting? Or does a Pablum "Just Win Baby" do it for you.
I like Marquette. I agree, if we make the NCAA tournament this season = GREAT THING. I just think Wojo has a long way to go before we can consider him a "good" coach. He has proven he can recruit. In-game coaching... not quite there yet. Or else our record would currently be 21-8, maybe even 22-7.
Just win baby!

And if we were 22-7 you'd be bitchin' bout the fact we weren't 25-4, due to 3 losses being completely, unequivocally, Wojo's fault.

so you're crowning Wojo as a good coach? like I said, it was a big road win in a must-win situation. Also, I've said it before, he's a good recruiter however I think he has a ton of room for improvement in terms of in-game coaching. That's hard to argue against considering Marquette should've beaten Pitt,@ Seton Hall, probably @Butler and for sure @Providence. blowing late "(big) leads is on the coach.
Just win baby!
Yes. He is a good coach. Changed the line up a few games ago and now the offense is on a roll. Post-season for sure this year, likely the NCAA, after none his first two years.
Is he a good recruiter? Yep. Very important to the college game so I'm not holding that against him. Improving as a game coach as well.

No I wouldn't. I just expect them to hold on to late leads, especially when the lead is large. Their inability to close out games this season is well documented. There are losses that players, coaches and fans can totally accept. and there are demoralizing blown leads that are inexcusable and infuriating. The Pitt, @SHU and @Prov all fall under the category of choke jobs. I just call it like I see it.
Just win baby

In two of the three losses you mention, Marquette won the next game. (And in the one they lost they were @ Nova.)
How "demoralizing" were they?
You have to ask the Mods where Ners and Chicos are?

Every Marquette fan should be used to the bolded. Buzz lost two to three games a season after enjoying a double digit lead in the second half.
evidently the trolls have moved on to the Xavier forums and are after 2016 National Coach of the Year, Chris Mack.
a few samplings:
Marquette has passed Xavier in terms of talent. I never thought that would happen again. They were better in the 1970s and most of the 1980s. Looks like we have returned to being their cream puff on the schedule like when McGuire used to beat the Tay Baker teams.
Mack getting schooled and our defense is terrible
Wojo is giving Mack a clinic. Out of halftime they get a foul and a great shot in transition. X gets a one on one airball by their PG and a fall away 3 from Macura because their first pass is way too high. Just an average coach trying to coach up above average talent.
It is time to start a coaching search. The team is in a good position to land a quality coach, there is no reason to wait for this to become a rebuilding.
Mack sat down most of game and made no adjustments at all. What is more concerning is the lack of improvement in some of our players
Watching this team struggle is painful and worse than a root canal. Not sure they belong in the NIT. At least we shouldn't have to worry about losing the coach this year.

This gave me a good laugh. Their 6 game slide has been pretty tough to stomach I'm sure but it has been against the upper half of the league with 3 of them being on the road. Throw in losing their two best players for a good chunk of time and it isn't earth shattering....though a loss to Depaul would be.
Irrational stupidity and whining know no bounds.

Outside of West Holloway and Crawford i can't think of any X player that would have started for us from 05-13
They lost Myles Davis too. To be fair though, I think he was on his seventh season of eligibility.
This was a great win...zero doubt about that. But...just to play devil's advocate..it's hard for anyone that's rational to argue, had they just won some of the games they blew big leads in not to mention losing to PC at home(that one will stick with me for awhile), they wouldn't be in a situation where this game was a must win. Truth be told, knowing what we know now and with the way the season unfolded, a bid to the NCAA's should have been wrapped up a long time ago, and they should have just been playing for seeding this last month or so. That being said, they ended up getting the job done(hopefully) regardless, it should just have been a lot easier then it was.

You're right and the same can be said for 95% of all programs in any given year. And yes, there have been leads lost in frustrating fashion this year, but calling out blowing leads ~18 hours after hanging onto a big lead is odd

fair enough, but sometimes a bad loss leads to a good win, a good win to a bad loss(es), a good win to more good wins(aren't all wins good?) and then the ole slippery slope(ask X)
evidently...i thought after the 'nova win, we were going to be really geeked up and finish up strong with the exception of a hiccup or so. look across the ncaa board-every team has losses that never should have been. every game is a new game. what is the key to winning and to continue to win? A LOT! preparation, motivation, consistency, minimizing distractions, travel, injuries, preparation/coaching, unsung heroes...and on and on. we are dealing with human beings here, and we are inconsistent and human. makes one appreciate what wojo is doing here and has done over the last 3 years

This one's my absolute favorite. Reads like it was copied word-for-word from about 9,000 posts here on Scoop.
After winning the 2nd biggest game of the season (biggest being SH on Thurs obviously)..........bump
Bueller, Bueller....
