Post by: Marquette4life on October 03, 2016, 07:49:56 AM
How do you get tickets for Marquette Madness? Do you even need tickets or do you just get there early and wait in line? How early should you get there?

On time is typically fine unless you are a student and want to make sure whatever free tshirt they give away fits you.

QuoteAdmission is free, but capacity in the 3,700-seat arena is limited, and doors to the Al McGuire Center will open at 6:30 p.m. Those in possession of a wristband, which will begin to be distributed at 3 p.m., will earn entrance not only to Madness, but also the free Homecoming Block Party across the street from the Al.

While wristbands are not required for entrance to the block party, they will be mandatory for access to Madness. All seating is general admission, but only Gold wristbands will be allowed in the lower bowl and Blue wristbands provide a seat in the upper level.

For what it's worth, FS Wisconsin is scheduled to air women's college soccer between Oklahoma State and Texas Tech on Friday night.

I will bet $1 that TWC does a better rating in Milwaukee.

Jokes.

I actually went to a Bucks game were Edens and Lasry were giving out shirts. They had every size and staffed it to have enough people distributing. It wasn't that big of deal.

MU should get some fans in early to get seats and then tell them they are handing out shirts with every size.

I'm a little worried about getting in tonight because if this wrist band thing.  Mrs SaveOD doesn't get off work until 5 (in Kenosha), and I'm concerned they will have given out all the wristbands to students already.  The whole plan sounds like it has the possibility of screwing over a lot of alumni.

Don't worry, 50% of the students will show up to get the free tshirt then leave. So if you are really concerned about getting a L or XL shirt, get there early otherwise you're good to go.

It said you need a wristband to get in.  Students will grab wristbands (and t-shirts) at 3, then not show up at 7.

So stop a student walking away from the Al holding a T-shirt and ask for his wristband.

Of course I did.  But I am sure that a reasonable amount of effort was made to make that happen, but for whatever reason, it didn't.  The program works its ass off. It's really easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize.

It's an awesome video and the best we've had since the original. I don't see anything wrong with pointing out our two most visible alumni not being in it. That would take it to an incredible level.

Wasn't there, wish I was. The new uniforms look great. They do a fantastic job of both looking current while paying homage to our history. The new Pray is nice. The original is still iconic, but it captures so much of our past and present. No Wade or Butler, but still a great job of bringing a ton of guys together for that. Hope it was raucous and made a good impression on the recruits that made the trip.

Love the uni's. A great nod to the past while looking forward.

This will not be a popular opinion but I would take off Al & the US flag.  These jersey do not have much room and this two elements are not must haves.   My only complaint is they look a little NASCARy on top.

Agreed about it being too busy. I'd ditch the flag, the Jordan logo, and Big East, in that order. Wouldn't touch AL. I realize some of that isn't an option, but the flag is unnecessary.

Rowsey looked great..........everyone else either looked like they did last year or freshmen.
Heldt looks much slimmer. Kaitlin looks like he will chuck it up similar to Carlino.
Traci turned it over several times. Luke had some cheap fouls. Sam is a big boy. Marcus is super smooth.
Rowsey was the best player on the floor last night.

I'm not surprised, you don't average 20 PPG on accident. That transfer was highly under publicized. Let's hope this means less Traci carter on the floor. Marquette is likely going to outscore teams to win.

Good call, though in general, the only place a grown man should ever wear a basketball jersey is when he is on a basketball court and playing basketball. Or maybe, maybe if they are a musician on stage or making a music video. Even that is questionable. No other reasons are valid for grown men to wear those. Buy them, frame them, display them, but they are not casual clothing ever.

At the beach, only if playing beach volley ball. A tank top would be better though, both casually and for beach volleyball. Spirit day, only if you have something on under it.

As far as wearing jerseys on grown men, basketball is pretty much never acceptable, football/soccer/baseball are only acceptable to wear to the game or to a game-watching event (bar, party, etc), and only hockey is acceptable for regular, casual wear.

I suppose you could also get away with a NASCAR race suit just about any time, but only because it's so unlikely and bizarre that how can you mess with that? ;D

I liked it more the second time I watched it on my computer at home.  The sound in the AL is not great, so it didn't capture the effect as well.  The BC should be better.

But...why did Jerel say "you will know that today is not your day" when the original line "you will know that you messed up" is so much cleaner?

Also, the original video had each of the 5 starters say Pray at the end.  They cut that down to three, which didn't feel like enough.  And they were slowwwww...

Not a basketball jersey. Simple reality is 99% of the people that wear them casually don't have the physique to get away with wearing them casually. The other 1% is Mark Wahlberg, LL Cool Jay, and 2Pac, and 2Pac's dead. That's what t-shirts and sweatshirts were invented for.

Really like the unis though not as much as the old ones.  But they were getting stale so I'm happy with the change.  I'm eager to see the gold version: think those will be killer!  Two minor complaints about the flag; 1) Breaks the color uniformity and 2) the flag and BE logo look crowded.  Jordan logo, Al, and the BE are key parts of the Marquette brand.  The flag seems unnecessary but then again I hate America.

The pray video didn't do it for me.  No goosebumps; then I rewatched the original and still got goosebumps.  Slow pacing, "who are the old guys that keep popping up?", needed more players, ending too drawn out, no Wade!...or Butler or Crowder...Novak?

My ending change:

1) Cut the first logo break.  Pray, pray, logo, pray, logo ending didn't flow.  Tighten it up.
2) Ideally the 3rd "Pray" would be Wade.  Big reveal, short and sweet ending.
3)  If not Wade, another option for the 3rd "Pray" would be the entire team in unison.

Too bad the "dream" hype video was associated with the most Marquette scandal plagued team of all time...

Sounds like there are 4 new versions of Pray out there or at least planned.

One of them is if we're good telling the other team to pray one of them is asking the audience to pray for a better team if we're bad.

So if you're an adult male who happens to have a physique in that 1%, it's OK?

There's a full list earlier in the thread.

My thought on the uniforms: I like them but agree that they're a little busy up top. Wish they would have put the flag on the back of the uniform, centered and right below the neck.

My guess is that the lack of chills for this one is more about it being a "repeat" of a previous theme.
I got the chills!

Thoughts on pray video with no audio.

Seems like 90% of clips are ripped from the old remember the titans video. Maybe they should have diversified a bit.

No, the 1% literally only includes Mark Wahlberg, LL Cool J, and Tupac. So unless you are Marky Mark, Ladies Lover Cool James, or dead, no jersey for you.

Some of the clips were on that video for a reason - Bo celebrating the championship, Wade's breakaway dunk against UK, Novak's dagger against ND.  Iconic moments in MU's history.  For the earlier clips (70s and prior), also remember that good video footage isn't always easy to find.

That said, three are two that I'd love to see added:  Davante's coast to coast and Dominic's last second block - both vs UW-Madison.

See how the description says "Version 1.0"?  My guess is that they have decided to spread out the highlights among several of these videos - maybe the famous players as well.

I get this. But I don't think it belongs on a basketball uniform.

The Jordan brand is responsible for making the jersey. The Big East is the conference we belong to. These elements could be smaller in my opinion. But both are mandatories.

"AL" honors our greatest coach, who still represents Marquette basketball today for many. I think naming the court after him is enough — although if anyone's name belongs on a jersey, it's Al.

9/11, on the other hand, has nothing to do with MU or the program. We don't use player uniforms to honor those who died in the Civil War or WWII. Uniforms don't reference POW/MIA or any other cause. Instead, we honor America with the playing of the national anthem at the beginning of every game. That's a long-standing tradition. Every player lines up, every fan stands out of respect.

It's not that 9/11 isn't important. It's just not important on a jersey.

It's part of our history of honoring things that have nothing to do with MU basketball - you know like retiring number 11.

I agree it is a nice thing to have on a uni but crowds the current design.  They could put it on the shorts.

Retiring 11 is still the stupidest reason to retire a number I think I've ever heard of.

Simply having a reason to put something on a uniform doesn't make it a good reason.

The Timberwolves retired Malik Sealy's number because he was killed by a drunk driver.  He only averaged about 10 ppg in his two seasons with the team.

The Denver Broncos retired Frank Tripucka's number because he was the team's first even starting QB.  They didn't seem to be bothered by his stats - like 51 TDs and 85 INTs.

And the Miami Heat retired Michael Jordan's number...even though he never played for the team.

There are plenty of head-scratchers out there....
