6'3 guard averaged 13.7 ppg as a sophomore. So he's a sit-out transfer. Looks like he is from Milwaukee, too. Included us on his list along with Nevada, Arizona, TCU, TAMU, wisconsin, Iowa State (of course), Miami.
Intriguing.
Seems like a bigger Duane Wilson to me.

More of a proven basketball player than either Sacar or Sandy IMO. With JJJ and Reinhardt leaving after this year...
Also, was a teammate of Luke Fischer at Germantown HS.

Yeah. I wouldn't hate it at all. I just hope he would be able to understand and accept that while he was "the man" at Buffalo, he may not necessarily be that at Marquette. If he can do that then he'd be a great addition. I'd love to have him with a year to get acclimated, work on individual stuff, hit the weights for a year, and then be good to play a year later. Having him and Sacar redshirthing this year would be great.
Not a great shooter, though.

Only red flag is he was dumb enough to get caught.

Are you sure? Him and his brother transferred in from Homestead, and he's 2 years younger.

No.
Is it a red flag that he used marajuana? No.
Is it a red flag that he was suspended and harmed his team in the process? Yes. Wojo would need to address this, but if he is satisfied with Bearden's response, I would have no further problem.
If we go back to 2013 on this website...

Lamonte Bearden of powerhouse Germantown... going to Buffalo... think he potentially could continue developing and be a HM guy.. but at a Buffalo, should do well. Pass, dribble, shoot.. he can get it all working in a game with decent pace. Fun to watch.
and, 2014...

PS - Bearden could do better than Buffalo. Not saying he should or should have.

They played together for one year in 2013 and won the state championship. Bearden was a junior and Fischer was a senior. Bearded played for Homestead in 2011, 2012.

This is correct.
Is he a true point or more of a two guard? He doesn't appear to be much of long range shooter.

Gotcha, thanks. Wasn't sure if they overlapped while at Homestead. Not sure why I thought there were 2 years between their graduating classes.
Significantly reduced his turnover rate while increasing his usage between freshman and sophomore year. His 3-point shooting is dreadful (although slightly better than Junior Cadougan's).
This guy's not exactly making my toes tingle. Is he really better than what we already have? Aren't we looking for guys who can hit the three? What kind of competition was he facing at Buffalo? Isn't the roster already unbalanced toward guards?
Bearden would be in the same class as Carter and a year ahead of Howard (not to mention Rowsey still around for a year). I think he's a fine player, but don't see him filling a need. We have three guys I like as much or better in 2017-18. We're building around shooting and he doesn't seem to do that well. I like what he can do, just not sure he fits on this team.

Agreed
Too many smart people are chiming in negatively on this idea. I am less intrigued.

Sounds about right, just ask my wife.

I've cooled on him already.

If Bearden was the lawyer in Ted2 he would get hired.
I do love how excited the board gets with high school stats or AAU highlights, yet quick to dismiss a guy that averaged 14 a game in the MAC. Same feeling with Rowsey, who average 20 PPG in college. I'll take a guy who succeeded in the MAC over a #75 ranked player in high school all day. Plus he's been to the NCAA tourney twice, two more times than most guys on the roster.

Agreed.
Not sure he really plays a position that is a major need for next year, but he certainly wouldn't hurt. Dismissing him for the off court stuff is silly, IMO.

I don't think anyone is saying Bearden isn't a good player. Okay...well, at least I'm not saying that. But he is a low eFG% guy that doesn't shoot the three well. He has proven to be a good distributor, but with Rowsey, Carter, and Howard all on the roster, that doesn't seem to be a huge need. In addition, if he's more of a combo guard, Cheatham would be in the same class and can play down at the 1 if needed.
Looking at 2017-18 when he would be eligible, we are projected to have Duane Wilson, Andrew Rowsey, Traci Carter, Haanif Cheatham, and Markus Howard on the roster. That's at least 5 guys at the 1/2 positions that Bearden would play. Bearden also isn't a good three-point shooter, and on a team that seems to be built around the ability to hit long-range shots from the guard positions, he doesn't really match what the staff is trying to do.
He'll be a good player for someone, I just don't see him as a fit for us.
You guys dismissing this guy because of pot all loved MU's version of Cheech and Chong.

Is he 6'8? Right now, the last thing MU needs is another guard.
