CongratuLations Sam. Can't wait to watch h you play at Marquette!
Congrats to Sam. Can't wait to see him in a Marquette uniform — and hope we don't ever lose sight of what it means to land the best basketball players in Wisconsin. (Feels like we've almost come to expect it.)
The Badgers are a top 25 program, and they have a massive advantage in interest/publicity/alumni as the state's largest public university. Beating them out for top talent is huge.
Since Wisconsin's Mr. Basketball started in 1982, Wisconsin has gotten 9 of them, Marquette has 8. (If you include Luke.) But Marquette holds an 8-7 lead from 1990 onwards. Marquette has had two of those eight transfer out though. (Maymon and Christopherson.)
Congrats to Sam! Back-to-back championships and undefeated season. Sam had the game high of 23, including an awesome alley oop dunk on an in-bounds play.
Congrats to the elder Hauser bro. Can't wait to see him in blue and gold.
Have teammates ever shared the award before? Pretty cool.
How come Anderson didn't get more high div 1 attention? Height?

Cool stats. Is there a site with info on the history of the award? (Unless you're recalling all that from memory.)
Congrats Sam! Unbelievable achievement for the young man. Will he see the floor next year? How about help up win enough games to enter the NCAA tourney? Will he help us win a national championship? I sure hope so. I think he's the wing-shooter we've been missing for a few years now. However, (expecting Henry to leave for NBA) believe we are missing a few horses down low... Step it up Wojo.

Thanks. I didn't realize Damon Key was Mr. Basketball — I thought McIlvane was.
This clip doesn't show the beginning of the play, but it's Joey making a lob in-bounds pass from behind the basket, and Sam streaking down the lane for the alley-oop dunk.

GREAT POST CHICOS ABOUT WISCO PLAYERS OF THE YEAR. Many of them were flops.
Andy Polka, DeMarcus Phillips, Greg Brown, Brad Clark, Sam Okey, Greg Timmerman,
Chris Jones and Mike Johnson and others not worthy D-1 talent. Our state really doesn't
have top grade D-1 talent for 2016, outside of Sam and Anderson, T. Lucas and Nick
Wagner of G-E-T. I just hope we can get Joey Hauser. Becky's recruit, Kobe King looked
lost in the 2016 State Tourney as his team needed him to step up. He did not.
As the country's 20th largest state, there's no way that Wisconsin is going to compete with Florida, Texas, New York or Illinois for producing top basketball talent.
But we've seen some pretty good players emerge in recent years. Two NBA lottery picks in Stone and Ellenson from the same class is pretty impressive — as well as two other 1st round draft picks from the previous 3 years in Looney and Dekker.
Hopefully we see that trend continue with Sam.
I'd happily take another Wesley Matthews, Jr. (Madison), Steve Novak (Brown Deer), Scott Merritt (Wauwatosa), or Jim McIlvane (Racine) — whether they have the title of Mr. Basketball or not.
The best part of Sams game is his coolness. Does not seem to get rattled, moves without the ball, seems very smart on the court. Very few if any turnovers I saw
watching two games. Can play the 2,3 or 4, reminds me in some sense the ability to dribble like Henry or Giannis, and play a point forward taking pressure off the guards. Can you use both hands to score with and has a great formed set/jump shot from distance. Not overly quick but quick enough. I can see him as a really good
player after his body matures and gains 25 pounds of muscle. Probably will play power forward his junior year. If they get Howard with Cheatham, add Bailey with
Joey and Sam and you have a nice nucleus in the future. Heldt for now is the center. I am not in love with Herro yet, skinny shooting guard but he has two years to get
stronger, Wojo seems to like him, more interested in Joey as he will become a really good 3 with size or a 4. They might look pretty good once the new arena opens up,
but I do believe Wojo will recruit some other athletes once they see what is happening in Milwaukee. This will be a first class facility, brand new, with big crowds the first
year. Hope they open with Wisconsin, Notre Dame or Louisville, maybe even Duke, now that would be interesting.

Go Marquette. It hurts not to see Marquette competing in a post season tournament. A friend asked yesterday, what happened to Marquette this year? I saidp that they dominated Wisconsin but got beat up in the Big East. She said, "well there are 3 Big Ten teams and only one Big East teams in the sweet 16." I said,"the Big East is tougher," and walked away.
Can't wait until next year with Sam. But, whatever happened to Sandy?

The court awareness of some of these young guys is very impressive. Both Hausers and Herro - they see the entire court very well. Something that was missing with Cohen, Cheatham, Duane, JJJ to different degrees when they got here.

No doubt Hauser is a nice prospect & can snipe it from deep. But he has a long way to go physically to compete in Big East. Would be an amazing redshirt candidate on a deeper team.

Disagree on the redshirt candidate. He's going to contribute next year. Already very fundamental, underrated athletically, and the thing I was most impressed with was his defense. There were times where I thought a guy was going to get to the rim in the championship game with ease and Hauser would make the right play and step in front of the guy, forcing him to not only redirect his dribble but also to completely stop the drive and pull the ball back out. Very good at keeping his body in front of dribblers and not defending with his hands.

rare that a recruit is BEAST ready physically and mentally....even more rare that someone of hauser's ability level redshirts.
If everyone comes back and we get Howard (or he leaves and we replace him with someone) it'll be eggs first time in a long time that we have 13 scholarship players available. To me, it would be a waste not to redshirt one or two of them. Barring injuries or transfers, we will never need more than 11 players. I would redshirt sacar and hauser. They will be much more valuable as fifth year seniors than they would be next season.
If Henry comes back, I would never redshirt Hauser, he might have the best shot on the team and would be a great compliment to Henry. Much better shooter then
what they have there now. Sacre I would agree on, thats if he wants a 5th year.

I think Novak is the perfect example to use when talking about redshirting. Overall, a fifth year of Novak would of been more valuable than his actual freshmen year. However, if we would of redshirted him he would not of played against Missouri, where he hit two threes to get us into overtime. Redshirt Novak and we probably do not get to final 4. Had we redshirted him he would of been teamed with the three amigos a second year, which then could of been a final four team.

Ever watch TJ play in HS? Did everything required, score, shoot, rebound, pass, play defense, coach on the floor. Made everyone on his team better.
Don't get me wrong, I was a big Vander fan. His Davidson layup made my birthday. Vander had the D1 measurables. TJ had a great college career. He lead the Ivy League in scoring his senior year.
