If Crean is behind this it constitutes a new low...other than giving his son all awards at his own camp and holding a press conference to announce he was pledging $100k to a soccer stadium and backing out of the deal. Did I miss something?

The University of Louisville said Friday it has launched an investigation into allegations that former Cardinals staffer Andre McGee paid an escort service to provide sex for recruits.
The allegations by Katina Powell are in an upcoming book, "Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen" from a publishing arm of the Indianapolis Business Journal. Some details of the book were published on the Journal's web site, and said that McGee hired Powell to provide strippers and prostitutes for recruits
and some of their fathers during a four-year period.
"To say I'm shocked is an understatement," Pitino said during a news conference Friday. "You know the allegations. Now we have to find the truth."
MU's staff was confident Damion Lee would visit MU after Louisville. He did not and instead committed to 'ville right away. I guess 'ville must have blown him away!

Yes, written by a prostitute who happens to name not only Andre McGee but evidently players who were involved. Truth is a defense to libel. If Katina Powell (and the publisher) aren't sued up the wazoo for this book, I think the clear implication is that what she says is not only true, but she can prove it.
More from the story in the Indianapolis Business journal.

The most telling report regarding the entire situation. While no one accepted the allegations of Louisville's involvement in this scandal, no one denied anything,

The most f#cked up thing is that this woman did this with her three daughters...

At the parties, a number of women—including Powell and three of her daughters—stripped and danced in front of the Louisville recruits and players—as well as performed sex acts with them, said Powell.

Or will these too take months and months/year of investigation/recommendations/appeals/discussions ... like the UNC phantom class scandal?
This *should* be relatively easy to figure out. The UNC class scandal was a something worse because it was so systemic, but because it was systemic, it has been hard for the NCAA to rule.

Or that Lyle "had a gun to his head" by offering him immunity. The NCAA isn't looking to harm Louisville. They are just letting him know that he has one chance to truthfully tell his story, and that if it turns out he is lying , he could lose eligibility.

Now that would be ironic!
Two of the recruits who are named as having sex with the dancers - Antonio Blakeney and Jordan Mickey - ended up going to LSU which kind of has me wondering....
Very interesting tidbit, three months after Andre McGee left Louisville for Missouri-Kansas City, McGee sent a text to Katina Powell giving her the address of the Louisville hotel where Antonio Blakeney and his guardian were staying. Powell then says that she had sex with the guardian her daughter had sex with Blakeney. Blakeney later responded to a text from the daughter saying Hey, you remember me? From Louisville? Blakeney responded "Yea, wassup." Obviously, if McGee had the address to send to Powell after he was gone, someone else at Louisville was involved.

On a related note, if Robert Horry (say the name out loud) WERE the new coach at Louisville, his players could compete to see who would be the next 'Big shot Bob'. To borrow from Dan Patrick, "Release, rotation, splash."
Say "Cool Whip."

QuoteOklahoma State coach Travis Ford, who played for Pitino at Kentucky, said he is 100 percent confident Pitino knew nothing of the sex parties, if the allegations are true.
Ford said Tuesday during Big 12 Conference media day ''for somebody who played for him and knows what he stands for and his expectations out of his players and how he does things, I know there is no chance in the world he knew anything about it.''
Hypothetically, let's say it's revealed - whether by admission or hard evidence - that Pitino did, in fact, know about the parties... should Travis Ford keep his job for backing Pitino with his "100%" claim?

Obviously, the sex is better in Baton Rouge, hey?
And the more information comes out, the tighter Louisville fans cling to their tinfoil hats. There is way too much smoke for their not to be a fire.

In light of how well so many of these kids know each other from the AAU circuit, I'm guessing the following conversation occurred once or twice:
Recruit No. 1: "You visiting Louisville?"
Recruit No. 2: "No, I crossed them off when I set my top 3."
Recruit No. 1: "You gotta visit Louisville...even if they're not on your list...trust me."
No doubt that many of these kids know each other from the AAU circuit, but the real question here is how many kids from the AAU circuit do Katena Powell and her daughter know (in the biblical sense) from the AAU circuit? And the secondary question would be, how did slick Rick not know?

Two things I love today. 1. A picture of Pitino coaching with ashes on his forehead in the ESPN article and 2. this Travis Ford quote
Travis knows about Porcini's right -- we are not talking about some sort of untarnished hero/saint here. Travis should have instead said "I know Rick and I know how he runs his program. Rick is too smart not to have plausible deniability on this topic"

Coming soon to Arkansas and Kentucky: Mazos burger smoothie franchises.
"Get the burger that's a real smoothie!"
Question: Is it realistic to believe no one in a position of authority (outside of Louisville) knew this was going on? From AAU coaches to parents to handlers, etc. No one knew? More specifically, media/reporters. These people talk to hundreds/thousands of recruits/players, coaches, parents, handlers, etc. They are supposedly "insiders" and have more knowledge than anyone. Is it honestly possible that NO ONE knew about this outside of Louisville? Personally, I do believe people, including media, probably had some idea. Why then would they not say anything?

Follow the $ trail. Someone was paying for the hookers and it wasn't Andre McGhee. The Hershey highway goes through Dick Strong.

It doesn't clear any smoke, it just distracts people from the smoke.

Love all the Lousiville fans who responded who clearly thought it was a serious tweet, lol.
On a serious note, cowardly move by Pitino to skip ACC media day. Especially right after he made a big speech about not letting the fans down. Lawyers probably want to make sure he doesn't make any false statements about not knowing

He knows nothing beyond prescreening the talent at a table in a certain restaurant on Salami Night

He should have donned that white suit and a brim and showed up with a hooker on each arm and asked "Any questions?"
...and just in from a North Carolina fan:

@franfraschilla what the Hell. How is he being allowed to avoid the issues with his program.
I guess Roy Williams is all over that academic cheating scandal making statements left and right.

Williams at least had the guts to go to ACC media day. Doesn't make the situation any better, but makes him better at handling this than Pitino is.

Interesting point. From an academic standpoint, having someone else do your homework is pretty terrible. However, as far as I know prostitution is actually illegal in Kentucky. Depending on the statute of limitations there could be some legal consequences.

In addition to prostitution being illegal, I suspect hooking a minor up with a prostitute also is probably frowned upon. I suspect at least some of these recruits were minors at the time.

Two different issues. The age of consent is 16, but the age of majority is 18. So, while it might be legal to have sex with a 17 year old, he is still a minor.
"A person is guilty of unlawful transaction with a minor in the first degree when he or she knowingly induces, assists, or causes a minor to engage in: (a) Illegal sexual activity..." In other words, I stand by my original statement: helping kids hook up with prostitutes is frowned upon.

I'd be interested to see an overlay of the average IQ of states vs the age of consent. I have nothing but an assumption to base this on, but I suspect it would be an interesting correlation.

I stand corrected. Obviously hooking up kids with prostitutes is frowned upon but I didn't think it would be "worse" because of the age of consent.
