UW right now is basically Maryland back in the early 2000's under Garry Williams. They had a great two years, and have not even sniffed the success they had since. Got to 2 straight Final Fours, lost in the semi's the first time, then won it all the next year, have not been close since.

I graduated from Marquette. Born and raised in Wisconsin. Obviously a Marquette fan first (big time) and have a piece of me that wants MU to be the last champion in the state, but on Wisconsin! Go win it all!!! I loved all Wisconsin teams growing up, started to to hate Wisconsin when I went to MU, but had to let that go after I graduated. Go Badgers!!! So cool for the state! Glad to see scoopers showing the Badgers respect. MU will be there.

The whole jump around thing is so stupid. UW didn't come close to being the first school to use that song. Before 1994, there was a reason the most exciting thing about UW football was the 5th quarter - no students went to the actual games! I was a grad student there for the 1992 and 1993 football seasons. I could choose ANY seat I wanted in the student section because nobody went. The student section was a dust bowl. About 500 would show up for the 5th quarter to watch their friends in the band play to about the remaining 10,000 people in the crowd. Although the song was released in 1992, the school didn't even play the song at games until 1998.
Same thing with the basketball team. I lived directly across for the UW field house while a grad student there and no students went to the basketball games either. I would literally walk in about 15 minutes in to the games and the ushers wouldn't even ask for a ticket. I'd just walk to the student section and pick what ever row i wanted to sit in. My high school buddy was the captain of Michigan as a senior when the Fab Five came on the scene as freshman and he left me a seat for that game - the field house was maybe 3/4 full.
So, UW can claim all the songs they want and how they made them popular, but when their teams sucked, nobody went to those games.
Last time Bucky played for a championship in Lucas Oil Stadium? The B1G football Championship last November. And, like Monday's game, Wisconsin was favored, by 4.5 points over tOSU.
Bucky lost 59 - 0.

I have one child at UW, one at MU and another on his way to MU this fall. Three of us are bitter and one is communicating exclusively with my wife! I'm envious to say the least. I dispise the Badgers, but I am impressed with this team. I am also paying $750 for a ticket so my daughter can go to Indy Mon night. That makes it sting a little more.

The Badgers won because they were there to play basketball as a team and were playing a team preparing to make millions in the NBA. The college game is 3-point shooting, free throws and not turning ball over and UW is among the best in the world in all three. They didn't have to play a Villanova-final type of game to beat UK. It was a small upset but not much of one.

Wisconsin played incredibly well and were well coached. Very impressive win.
Badgers were better last night. And I really believe that Kentucky wouldn't have gone undefeated in any other major conference, look at who they played on the road. Their toughest game was Georgia, in- conference. They did win at Louisville. I'm happy for my Badger friends, and I hope they lose to Duke by 30.

Funny how some of us from out of state root for Wisconsin just because it brings back fond memories of our four years in the state. We always considered Notre Same the team we had to beat, and the in-state students always thought it was Wisconsin.
When the two played hack to back in the tournament a few years back I was surprised that 90% were the biggest anti-wisconsin fans in the building.
My sons really made fun of me for jumping up and down cheering - all while wearing a Marquette T-shirt.
I want Bucky to lose to Duke. I want them to go 0-30 next season. I will never root for them. And yes, I second Chicos in saying I'm glad I don't live in Wisconsin right now; that would be very tough to handle.
Having said all that, like most folks here I truly respect what Wisconsin has done. Outstanding team that plays the way I'd like the team I coach to play.
And I really don't think Bucky will be extraordinarily affected by "we've already won the championship" feelings. Maybe if the title game was the next day, but it will be 48 hours later and I'm pretty sure they'll be back in game mode. Why should it be any different for Bucky than it was for the 1991 Dookies 2 days after they beat UNLV or for the 1980 U.S. hockey team 2 days after they beat the Russians?
Intelligent, hard-working, well-coached teams don't fall into that trap, and I consider Wisconsin to be all of those things. If the 3s aren't falling for Bucky but they are for the Dookies, I doubt it will have been because Wisconsin was still thinking about Kentucky.
As much as I want Duke to win, I really do think it is a pick-'em game.

Starting watching the game a Wildcat fan but must admit by the end of the game was kind of happy the Badgers won. I really don't like Kentucky. Nothing against the current players. Just don't like the program, fans, nor Cal.
I think it was a bit easier watching the Badgers win knowing they have Duke on Monday who beat them in their own house. Hopefully Duke can win on Monday.

This kind of reminds me of the US in soccer. Mexican fans HATE that we have recently consistently beat them. It's funny because soccer is THEIR game and here in the US, it is what, fifth most popular? We beat them at their own game.

I can't stand the Big10-15, and if Wisky wins the crowing will never end, the state isn't big enough for some of the egos who reside in Madtown. But Bo is a good coach and has a ton of patience and finally broke thru with 4 and 5 year players.

I'm just trying to make the analogy. Mexico = Marquette and Wisconsin = USA. You (a Marquette fan) hate that Wisconsin beats us at our own game (basketball), just as Mexico hates that America beats them at their own game (soccer).

appearance. You hear that and say "WHAT!>?!?!?!? are you crazy? I would give my left index finger for a championship!!" It's as though they have this great team/coach and don't truly appreciate it as much as you would. In that sense it is as if Badger fans don't deserve such great basketball success because they don't put in the time/effort of learning the game, the players on the team, etc. Nobody really likes seeing gifts bestowed upon people who don't deserve them.

Bo is a great coach, but yes he is a huge douche as well. What he did with the Holman funeral and crap given to Bruce Pearl was a joke. That has always stuck in my craw. Doesn't take away that he is a great coach. Plenty of great coaches, CEOs, leaders, etc, that are epic douches.

This kind of reminds me of the US in soccer. Mexican fans HATE that we have recently consistently beat them. It's funny because soccer is THEIR game and here in the US, it is what, fifth most popular? We beat them at their own game.

I got your analogy, just found my personal perspective on the two fanbases to be opposite.
And I agree, they don't deserve that team. They ignore them for 4 of the 5 months of the season. They crow on about titles and top four league finishes when they didn't watch any of the games that earned those accolades. But when it comes to bragging, they'll go on about it to no end.

It stings to see UW in the National Final, especially in the midst of MU's worst season in decades. Our coach comes from Duke and I'm sure Wojo would like to see a Duke win.
But, I'd like to think that if it was switched, most UW fans would be pulling for Marquette. So, I won't be cheering against UW, but I can't say I'll enthusiastically be pulling for them either. I hope its a well officiated, good clean game, where the best team wins. UW is a great team and they deserve to be where they are. That's as far as I will go.

I don't know how a team full of floppers and whiners is likable. I mean I understand that NateDogg can relate to whiners, but the rest of us? Great team, great coach, and a really watchable style the last two years. But likable? Outside of Dekker I don't really like any of them, though Nigel Hayes is starting to grow on me. I like Hayes sense of humor while Dekker has always oozed confidence when he spoke and has been a clutch performer. Loved his State final display after the Racine Lutheran fans chanted overrated with a minute to go. Dekker turned a 28 point game and 8 point deficit into 40 point game and one point win. Reminded me of when Tulane fans chanted overrated at Wade and he went off for 35.
As for the rest of the team...Koeing strikes me as kind of a pr*ck...Gasser is a super duper whiner and flopper...and Kaminsky is king of the superdorks.

I DESPISE UW basketball, but I like Dekker (even though Ive said he was overrated until this recent assertive tourney performance) and like Hayes. But Gasser is the worst. Typifies everything unpleasant about a Bo-coached player, and he's taunted the Marquette fans/students each year he's played in Milwaukee. He's an ass. I gagged as the media was chuckling over him being called Captain America. Him getting that terrible charge called on him was ironic given his incessant flopping.

Yes, and for the record I hated Wojo when he was a player. I'm waiting 5 years to fully judge his coaching ability.

I thought he just said there were 4 NBA players on UW. I assumed he meant Koenig rather than Gasser, but you may be referring to a different comment.
