Wow, J. Wilson having a terrible game.  Getting burned/killed on defense, bad turnover and now just chucked up a bad shot.

Mayo sitting on bench again also.  Has not made it the court.

I can't recall a player more inconsistent for MU than Jamil. And the over under for "dunks made by whoever Lockett is covering" is set at 9.5 for the rest of the game.

Since Gardner went out we've had the ball in the paint, what, twice? Worse yet, who is there to give it too? Jamil is a vanishing act and a wing guy. Taylor is too small and Otule is one dimensional.

That being said, it's not over.

That one was actually on Lockett.  The in bounder has to get the ball in play.  He put it right infront of lockett, in his hands.  You have to grab the ball.  He just let the Louisville guy take it.

Blue and Lockett playing well. Need more positive plays from the other 3 on the floor. Their switchables are killing ours. Namely, Wilson. Need to rebound better obviously. Two many second chance points.

That is an overstatement. Ville started slow but it wasn't due to MU running circles around them.

This is a typical MU-Ville game over the last six or seven years. No one should be surprised.

Said previously to mark it down at 10 minute mark.  MU up 16-12, chance to go up six and DG called for offensive foul.  Since that, the score is UL 26-8.  Eight points in last ten minutes of half.

Junior - scoreless
Anderson - scoreless
Mayo - scoreless
Wilson - one layup off a miss rebound.
Taylor - scoreless
DG - two points

Outrebounded 23 to 12.

10 fro 31 from field
1 for 7 from three.

Very ugly

Not over. Still a chance to get back in this one. Seems MU plays better in the second half. WVU, Cincy, Cuse are a few games that come to mind where MU came back and won or almost won after being down 14-15 at the half.

The trend for all MU-Ville games is we do really well for stretches.  Then for whatever reason there are stretches where the refs will not call any reach, bump or push.  Louisville eats up those minutes, we freak out and turn it over.  We saw that stretch in the first half. Basically a 20 pt run for them.

Hopefully we handle it better in the 2nd half.

Russ smith gets away with way too much contact. If Derrick Wilson was doing that he'd be out before the 12 minute tv timeout. When you get a reputation for being a scrappy, quick defender you get away with a lot. Just like craft from Ohio state.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, doesn't matter the refs called it and it was the turning point.

Hope some adjustments are made and at least get this thing closer in second half.

UL is very quick, to include their bigmen and can see why they were a pre-season #1.  Probably under achieving to this point.

We are just getting beat all over the floor. Nobody can hit shots, create their own shot, box out or stay in front of their man. Louisville is just that much better than us right now and have length+athleticism in their bigs, something that has always given us huge problems. However, I am still optimistic that we can make the NCAA's if we keep improving, but a lot of that rests on Jamil waking the unnatural carnal knowledge up and asserting himself out there.

Because we hate Louisville. Honestly, I really think I hate them more than any other opponent. They just disgust me every time we play them, largely because we either lay a massive egg or get heartbroken. I always thought it was UW and ND, but it's not. It's Louisville. That's why I never want to see them again after we're out of their conference. Because playing them sucks. It sucks on the court, it sucks emotionally, it just sucks.

I never ever want to play them again. It's not worth it. 3-11 the last 14 games? God, why would anyone actually WANT to play them?

Frankly it is pretty easy to take Gardner out of the game.  Have a reasonable big fight him for position.  Have the baseline defender hedge over to make the entry pass difficult/impossible.

Box out.

Agreed, we still have a lot going for this team. Lockett has been improving a lot and vander keeps showing consistency. However, If Jamil doesn't get his head out of his ass soon, I think his minutes need to keep decreasing and taylors to keep increasing, as taylor seems at least to be active out there. At some point, Buzz needs to realize that having Jamil out there is detrimental to the team.

Otule did what? Blue had more rebounds than he did. He is a barely serviceable big.
As a senior at 6'11' 275 he should be getting at least 8 boards a game and some points
Lets Loserville put an xtra man on the ball cause hes not a threat to score

Otule easily outplayed Gardner.  And they don't put another man on the ball.  In fact, Otule has one on him tight and a second/third sagging in to make a post entry pass difficult.  He doesn't score, because the other team sags to defend the paint and dares us to shoot from outside.  If you haven't noticed, shooting from outside tends to be a weakness for us.

I have a hard time looking at the boxscore, the last 5 games JWill is invisible.
Is he soft or what? He never attacks the basket. Its like 2 guys against 5.
I can stand losing, but whats with the effort and smarts. Our inbounds against

Look, the team had a bad day, six total assists by a team is just brutal.  Everyone did not play up to expectations and it happens.  J. Wilson has been extremely bad in his last couple of games and does need to step it up for team to continue on.

The only MU player that would see playing time on the UL team is Vander.  UL is very talented, has the HS school AA's and they played like it today.

MU is still tied for first in the BE with a 6-2 record and I for one did not anticipate that.  If they throw up a dud like this Weds. against USF, then that would be disappointing.

This is such a narrow view of what Otule does or what Marquette does in terms of rebounding.

I am not saying today was great, but Marquette's philosophy is to have the bigs box out and create room for the wings to grab rebounds. A big will not get many rebounds in that type of system.

Otule is usually great at putting a body on opposing bigs, thereby letting our wings get their rebounds. He is also great at using his body to seal off defenders creating lanes for our guards and wings to penetrate.

Today was disasterous all the way around for just about everyone in a MU jersey. Don't be so shallow as to judge Otule on one game and on mere statistics.

I agree.  I thought he lacked hustle.  Clearly Dieng is more athletic, but O'Tule was out of position often, didn't box out well, slow on defensive rotations.  I haven't seen them recently, but he doesn't appear to be playing well of late.

Personally, I would have liked to see a little more zone today. Would have helped with the rebounding I think, back door cuts, and could have slowed UL down. I would have rather seen them beat us from three in the first half than all of those dunks. It's usually not the first three that kills MU anyway, it's the reload one. It's probably just a personal preference though and I'm sure there was a reason they didn't play any zone.

MU seems to do this often against a zone.  Just a pitiful 0:35 to 1 A/TO ratio.  Same old same old and starts with the scheme. MU's 16 turnovers then turned into 32 immediate points. Just absolutely brutal.  That is the difference in the game...again and again same deal with these losses.  Buzz needs to adjust.

Agree.  Otule does all the dirty work inside including sealing the lane for our drivers. And I agree that there were MANY times today he established position down low but no one got him the ball...EVER.  Held Dieng below his season average in rebounds.  Even made his FTs today!

Somewhat off topic, I also thought LV got away with a LOT of hand-checking and bodying up our guards in the first half.
