Umm, half of those highlights show him donning a wife beater. Is that what he sends to coaches? Maybe him and Reggie Smith can join the And1 tour with their cute dunks.

Awesome highlight video, seems to be the athletic, get-out-in-transition guy that Buzz always looks for. He's listed as a small forward, but at 6'3, I would expect him to play SG.

My takeaway from the video is that he is very athletic, but needs to work on his left hand.  Almost all his finishes going left ended up being shot with his right hand.

Are you really a jagoff or just play one on the internet?

You know, some of you try to be comedians and recruits do read this stuff and your comments don't represent Marquette well at all. Think about it.

Thought esoteric's comment was pretty funny and true.  A highlight vid composed of ~80% dunkage, some of which are staged is pretty worthless.   Indicative of today's b-ball culture though.

Settle down, if mr. Croaker doesn't come here because of a comment on the scoop, then my guess is Marquette is better off. He might be good, but everyone was all giddy over Reggie smith 2 years ago based on some summer ball mix tape. Just sayin.

A couple of the euro-steps he did made me think the same thing.

The dude is an athlete, no doubt about it.  Had a couple of nice pull up jumpers in that vid, but that's about it outside the dunking.  I mean it IS a highlight video, not a scouting video.

i guess you could look at it that way, or you could look at it as seeing an extremely athletic kid (as shown in the video) that must be able to do the other stuff at a level that buzz feels is good enough for mu.  players develop well under buzz and this kid certainly seems to have the athleticism to have a high ceiling.

Yeah, 25 years ago nobody was into dunking. They preferred laying the ball gently into the peach basket. That is, when they were stroking a smooth set shot from  distance.

Dunk opportunities result in a very small percentage of offensive series within a college game of basketball.

I'd rather see pull up jumpers, jumpers rolling/fading off screens, steals, assists, etc. for a highlight video to even begin to be worthwhile as far as evaluating a guy's game.

Croaker seemed to want to put out his And1 skills, staged dunks in wife beaters, etc.   Indicative of what is cool these days but not what I'd put together for a true highlight film.  The dumbing down of basketball is what that highlight film was.

Not going to impress too many basketball coaches and knowledgeable fans.

Sorry, but a layup or midrange jumper is not a highlight. These are highlight videos. Highlights are dunks and crossing somebody over. This is not a recruiting video. Kids don't put their recruiting videos, what they send to college coaches and scouts, on YouTube. Just like college coaches do not go to YouTube to find recruits. They go to games and watch them live and watch their recruiting (not highlight) videos. Highlights are for fans, not coaches. YouTube is to get views, not scholarships.

For  simple fans or kids yes I'm sure they like that.  I look at the 50 dunks and go "okay you can jump, what else can you do consistently?"   Not really that impressed with that video.

You could be right, lots of crap on Youtube and maybe Youtube is just for the dunk highlights.

That vid told a lot better story.  Thanks.

Liked the way he shuffled his feet and stayed in front of the other star player on defense.  Very quick feet.

Shot had pretty good form and I agree he's got D Wadeish maneuverability to the hoop.

Would love to get this kid.

As far as the importance of dunking in college, I have one name... Trend Blackledge. (I like Trend, but his other skills were lacking)

Also, Does anyone know if DeMarcus will play the two or three. We have a bunch of SGs.

In Buzz's offense, the 2, 3, and 4 are entirely interchangeable.

While there's a lot of overlap, there was a big difference in the roles of a guy like DJO and a guy like Crowder. While 2-3 overlap and 3-4 also overlap, there aren't many guys we have that truly play all 3. Jamil Wilson and Vander Blue probably come the closest right now.

Well of course....when you actually plug the players in, they are going to play to their strengths.  The point is that asking if someone is going to play the "2 or the 3" is not really relevant because the positions themselves are interchangeable.

Now, assuming that we have a point and a post in the game, and Jamil is on the floor, he is going to be near the basket more likley than not.  But if he isn't in, and you have Blue, Lockett and Mayo (for example) on the floor, there really isn't someone in that type of position...and that is OK.

I veiw it as our forward spots are interchangable and or wing spots are interchangable, It just depends if we have a 2 Forward out there or 2 wings.  Croaker is wing in our system but that could be the 2 or 3. The only guy that I look at as both is Lockett at this point, and maybe Wilson next year.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that I think that BRMU23 was asking a "what if" question that assumed that if DeMarcus Croaker decided to come to MU, what position did the rest of us see him playing.  His question seemed to result in a short, but interesting, discussion about the role of the traditional 2, 3, and 4 positions in Buzz's offense, and in a sad attempt at a smack down by you.

Thank you LittleMurs. Leever, settle down chief. Let me rephrase my question for those of you who only see in black and white; does anyone know which position DeMarcus wants to/is most suitable to play? In that highlight reel, i did not see him handle the ball that much, leading me to believe his skills are more attuned to the 3 position.

The problem is that there really are only 3 positions in Buzz's offense.  Center, PG and wing.

Thanks for the link.

He has a nice looking shot and range beyond the three is a must in Buzz's offense.

The kid still has Wade-esque air about him. Must be the ease and control when driving to the hoop.

n a Florida State basketball class that is expected to be smaller than normal, Demarcus Croaker (Orlando, Fla./Jones) appears headed for at least one of the vacancies.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect has tried to be in near-constant contact with the Seminoles' coaching staff for the last calendar year. Relationships, specifically with assistant coach Stan Jones, have really blossomed.

"I really like Florida State and I have really liked them for a while," said Croaker, confirming that the Seminoles are his leader. "I have a very good relationship with the coaches and a couple of the players I know. I love the coaches and I love their style of play. They play defense and push the ball up the floor.

"That is definitely a place I could see myself going there."

Playing as a part of a stacked Florida Rams team this summer, Croaker has garnered additional looks and two new offers from Marquette and Texas.

"I don't really think it changes anything," Croaker elaborated on the Marquette tender. "I am going to go look into their school and I want to research everything and learn about the coaches."

Regarding Texas, he said, "I have just been chatting with the coaches about all the players that have come through that program and how they make it to the NBA, which is one of my goals."

After the conclusion of the summer circuit, Croaker intends to take a few trips to check out institutions up close.

And while none of them have been set up just yet, Florida State appears to be a favorite to land one of them -- even though it potentially might not need one.

"I don't have them set up yet, but I plan on taking some, though," said Croaker.

"I think with Florida State, if I wanted to commit, I don't think it would be a place that I would have to go to in order to commit. I know the coaches and that place pretty well already. Besides that, I think I would have to take my visits before I would consider committing."

The three-star recruit mentioned that if he doesn't make a prior to November, he will make his choice during the early signing period.

Larry's fault.  Or something.

I want to say Reggie Rankin had the scoop first, but per Twitter Croaker is down to Florida State, Murray State and Texas.

It takes a unique talent to shoot point blank at sarcastic /funny and miss the entire target. Or something.

You obviously didn't see him dunk in warmups of a pickup game.

Croaker committed to Murray State, fwiw.
Good pickup for the Racers.
And hopefully a better driver than one of his future teammates.

Are you really a jagoff or just play one on the internet?

You know, some of you try to be comedians and recruits do read this stuff and your comments don't represent Marquette well at all. Think about it.

If a kid makes a life decision because an anonymous poster with no basketball skills or true knowledge of the game made a negative comment on a silly fan site then I am certain Buzz would be relieved someone that shallow opted not to attend MU.

I had a feeling that Florida State would be out of it when they got Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

Umm, half of those highlights show him donning a wife beater. Is that what he sends to coaches? Maybe him and Reggie Smith can join the And1 tour with their cute dunks.

Maybe you and some of your scared, white relatives can take English and Sociology classes.  Redneck

Settle down, if mr. Croaker doesn't come here because of a comment on the scoop, then my guess is Marquette is better off. He might be good, but everyone was all giddy over Reggie smith 2 years ago based on some summer ball mix tape. Just sayin.

This.

Hate to break it to my fellow Scoopers, but we don't have as much influence as we'd like to have.

White relatives?  Didn't the Italians invent the wife-beater?

I'll go out on a limb and say Buzz did not just watch the YouTube videos and say, "Wow, sweet dunks!" and then offer.

C'mon, fellas.

One would think but how do you explain Bret Roseboro?

Not going to impress too many basketball coaches and knowledgeable fans.

How many coaches make decisions on a highlight film??

Furthermore, the combined basketball skill on fan boards is negligible. Knowledgeable fans? Oxymoron, certainly with regard to critical evaluation of 14-17 year old talent. If you could do that you wouldn't be hunkered down in a cube.

I think this kid fits in perfect with Buzz's scheme. He is extremely fast and will work well in our transition offence and just seems to explode when he attacks the rim. Hopefully we can scoop him up

Do you people even look at what you're quoting? The only reason for the bump was to announce he committed to Murray State. Stop trying to pick an argument that was over 5 months ago. You're late to the party. Deal with it.

Nobody noticed the kid was going on about FSU but ended up at Murray State. Remember that a lot of kids list dream schools (Duke, Kentucky, etc) which might not have actually offered.

Uhh...huh? I'm just saying trying to pick an argument over a post made half a year ago is stupid. He picked MSU, good luck, now let the thread fall back to oblivion.

Croaker decommitted. Looks like Texas is the favorite now, but who knows?
