There you go. Chum to the sharks:
Milwaukee – Sophomore forward Jamail Jones has been granted his release from the Marquette University men's basketball team and intends to transfer to another program, head coach Buzz Williams announced Friday afternoon.
In two seasons with the Golden Eagles, Jones averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in 46 career appearances. His lone start came this past season at West Virginia. The 6-6, 210-pounder shot 33.7 percent from the floor, 22.5 percent from behind the 3-point line and 60.0 percent from the charity stripe in 7.5 minutes per night.
"We are thankful for Jamail's investment of time, energy, and his character during his time with us," Williams said. "Everyone in our program will miss him greatly and wish him the absolute best as he pursues his academic and basketball career. We will all be cheering for his success."
Good luck, JJones. I am sorry it didn't work out for you. I hope you find a good fit.

+1, hopefully we can keep this positive, but I'm not holding my breath
Is it 5 o'clock yet?
Good luck to Jamail.
Good luck Jamail!
Not everyone can play a lot and when you recruit at a high level then transfers will happen.
Was a big Jamail fan. He was one of the most supportive guys off the bench. Had trouble finding his stride. Wish him the best!
Did Buzz put the Big East, ACC, Big 10 and Iowa State on the restricted list? Or did Buzz have a realationship with Jamail that was civil and Jamail actually would talk with Buzz so that is not necessary?
Hope he finds a good place where he can see the court more often.
Not suprising. Never lived up to his "shooter" recruiting and his statistics confirmed it. He was ranked #52 recruit in one service, probably had potential, but never stepped it up. With incoming recruits/transfers, he would remain at the end of the bench, cheering team on. Will be an asset to probably a mid major program and wish the young fella good luck. Seemed like he never complained and was a good teamate.
Not surprising....waiting until Friday afternoon to release the information.
So now we have two slots for 2012...one for 2013.

Yep. Agree on all counts. Really pulled hard for him. Hope he succeeds whereever he ends up. Always had a smile and always seemed to be a class act!
Have a feeling this is truly best for all involved. I liked Mellow but he wasn't looking likely to break the rotation. Hopefully he'll find somewhere with more available time for him.

I am not privy to any insider information, but I am not surprised, as the kid must want to play by now. I think he'll be a nice player for someone who is willing to put him on the floor and let him play. I wish him the best. He always seemed like a great kid.

OK, so if Lockett signs on, that would leave one for 2012. Then Lockett would be open slot for 2013.
Now, with the Lockett transfer, who would provide leadership, maturity, etc., should Buzz save the 2012 slot for 2013, with all the quality 2013 recruits out there?

I think so. Kendrick Nunn, Jameel McKay and a few 2013 big men including Phillip Nolan could all use that scholarship, and maybe another, should one open up.

Hiroshima II (according to muguru) will happen when this board reacts to the reasons behind a player or players who do not want to leave being forced to transfer.

mostly because i just want to get it over with. i know the boards are ripe with speculation in the off-season, but it's tiresome. i wonder if jamail was the forced transfer or if that will be another one (if another one occurs)?

Heh...it was on the free site. And he got on me for referencing Scoop on that site asking me if I ever did the reverse.
Well now I have.
Durley and Jones both not being here next year means 2 open schollies, Lockett will take 1 with one being left for next year and since Otule apparently gets his 6th year then there's 1 for 2013. Don't think we should get someone for next year cuz then the last 2013 schollie is gone. Think we should hold the extra schollie for McKay. EDIT: wait I forgot that Lockett doesn't use a schollie since he is graduating right?

I feel much better about Juan than I did about Jamil. I just do. Maybe it was Jamail's nickname. It also seemed to me that Juan was ahead of Jamail this year, even tho Juan was the freshman. That being the case, I'm not surprised to see Jamail go. He was a class act.

That might be true, but I dont see it. I think the writing on the wall that Juan had jumped him made this decision that much easier for Jamail.
Really too bad things didn't work out. I always really liked Jamail and thought he showed flashes in his limited time. Hard to ever get anything going when you dont play. I think he'll be a really nice piece for someone. Nothing but good things to say about the guy.
Moving forward, what does the collection of possible one year players look like? Obviously Lockett is at the top of that list, but is there anyone else that could be available to take a schollie this year then open it up next year?

Would be fun to bring in Matt Roth for one year
Best of luck to Jamail.
I hope he finds his shot somewhere and catches on nicely.
Juan has a higher upside, IMO. Jamail was being relied on for his range, but Juan has more skills.
Should be able to upgrade with this schollie. Otherwise known as a win/win situation.
Thanks for the two years of service, Jamail.
I'll always remember him smiling, cheering, and doing his best when he had court time.
I hope you blow it up, Mellow, and show us that talent you always had.
Hopefully Kendrick Nunn "inquires" about our scholarship situation again.
And so much for forcing Durley out just to take his scholarship.
Now that Benford is gone I wonder how that affects Nunn's interest. After all, he was a big factor in the recruiting process with Kendrick.
I've asked this before - what if the talent on the team after Hiroshima is better than the talent before Hiroshima?
Not sure it's Hiroshima anymore?

1. Sultan doesn't like what was stated in a thread and annouces that he is using the 'report to moderator' feature.
2. Shortly thereafter, the moderator cuts the last 10 pages of the thread.
3. Sultan tells the moderator that he should not have done that there was good reading material in there.

correctly predicted that once this topic (MU players being declared to be academically ineligible ex post facto) was addressed, the result would be Hiroshima II.
