Rumors of the proverbial secret scrimmage. Hope Michael Beasley didn't go for 50.
-
This can only hurt our seeding
-
Dang. Look at Nova's.

Marquette apparently won by 6. No notion of what the structure was.
-
Shaka continues his undefeated streak at MU.

Sounds like Marquette shot 60% from 3. That seems to be a point of emphasis that many worry about here.

It's BC! It's BC! How many 3 shots did MU take?

5

5
Very much a small sample. But I don't expect team to take a lot of 3's
-
5 is just the smallest number to get you an even 60%. I’m sure more threes were taken.

Given Nevada's system is predicated on high screens and kick outs for open 3s, I expect a lot of them.
Where did the 5 come from? I am yet to see/hear about a box score.

See above. I think he was kidding.
-
Surely someone has more information on this performance
-
The shooting background was favorable for us. If the game was at the BC and we played BC, we’d be lucky to shoot 12% from deep

Yes, but none of them post here. >:(
-
Apparently the BC scout paid subscriber page has details about the scrimmage.

Agreed

Ha!

12 of 20 from three..from another board

12 of 20 from three..from another board
That would be nice. Hope your source is more accurate than Rico’s teal source.

12 of 20 from three..from another board
12 of 20 from three and we only beat a bad team by 6? Something seems wrong
-
12 of 20 from three and we only beat a bad team by 6? Something seems wrong
I wouldn’t read much into anything from this “game”
-
12 of 20 from three and we only beat a bad team by 6? Something seems wrong
Per other reports it was more of a "set up some plays" situation than it was a full on game simulation.
-
12 of 20 from three and we only beat a bad team by 6? Something seems wrong
While I would read next to nothing into this game, we're probably going to need to shoot 60% from deep to beat teams better than BC. Gonna be a longggg season.
-
There he is.

We just went through the Wojo years...and you're worried THIS year being long?

If we need to shoot 60% from three to beat teams our defense will be historically bad. I’m hoping for better D than that.

Would it make you feel better if MU was up 15-20 most of the second half, and the lead shrunk in garbage time?
-
Nominated for the first dumbest post of the year.

Great. Now it'll start a "Shaka's teams can barely hold a lead" narrative.

Did we run an inbounds play successfully?

Just have Markus lob it to Sam. History made.

Uh oh, Nova just took a seeding hit:
https://balldurham.com/2021/10/23/duke-basketball-star-secret-scrimmage/
The secret was already out, but it became more evident to Villanova on Saturday afternoon: Duke basketball power forward Paolo Banchero is a beast.
Per tweets from Blue Devil insider Zion Olojede, the 6-foot-10, 250-pound freshman out of Seattle totaled a double-double with 29 points and 12 boards in leading Duke, who ranks No. 9 in the Preseason AP Top 25, to a not-so-hush-hush “win” over the No. 4 Wildcats in Washington, D.C.

No Theo mention??
Duke posted a highlight video on their twitter account. He had a few buckets, but probably won’t get a ton of minutes this year.
He’s not a bad 8th option on a great team.

I was bored yesterday and read that thread. It’s amazing how if poor badger fans ever lose anything, they immediately tell the fan base on Twitter that “it’s your super bowl”. It’s their pathetic go to line. It’s got to be taught in an incoming freshman class or some shiz?
-
Why are there no tweets on MUs secret scrimmage? I know there were posts about the number of threes made but it felt like guess work. No official tweets came out. Or did I miss something?

I like the one dude who replies to like 5 different people saying to stop freaking out cause 2 Badger freshmen didn’t play. Cause we all know Badger freshman recruits outside of the top 100 are always the huge difference makers in that program

I thought I've read he's there starting 5.

Back up to a freshman. Speculation that they might run a mammoth front line out there.

They’re much more likely to go small with Paolo spelling Williams at the 5 and putting AJ griffin at the 4.

All this Dayton talk has me communicating like a Flyer.

Aside from Gafford being exponentially more athletic. That is a fair comparison of his role this year at Duke.

Their student newspaper does a nice job covering the team and other sports .
-
Haven't followed Gafford in the NBA, but as a college player, definitely not a guy I'd compare with Theo. Gafford far more agile, fluid, can run and bounce... much more of an offensive guy.. .fairly high usage guy (~mid-20%s vs. John well under 20%)... far, far better rebounding numbers, and turnover rate %'s. They both can block shots and get to the line, but... yeah, don't love the comp.

Agreed. They’ll be surprised at how unathletic Theo is, especially in traffic.
-
As a 15-18 mpg third/fourth big, he will be a dream come true at Duke. That is all he needs to be. Barring injury or foul trouble.
-
He was asked to do way, way, way too much offensively last season. He shouldn’t have to worry about foul trouble with the minutes he’ll be receiving.
HE’ll be a good addition to a good team.
-
He fits the Duke big man Brian Zubak mold. He'll be asked to set ginormous screens and take up space in the lane defensively.
-

Love Shaka's emphasis on dunking everything at the rim. I remember a video from early in the offseason when Osa was finishing through the coach's padding and he layed it in. Shaka stopped the drill and put Osa back to the front of the line and made him do it again but finish with the dunk. Also love that we practice throwing oops. Going to need our guards collapsing the defense. They'll need to be able to throw the lob and kick to a corner for an open 3.

The players were posting all weekend about being in Chicago so maybe???
-
Then seeing that 15 seconds reminds me that we are going to have the longest, deepest, most athletic team we have had in some time. 6 guys over 6'7. 6 guards between 6'3 and 6'5. MU may be switching everything on the perimeter from 1-4. And with some line ups, they may be switching 1-5. Those are the things that keep me from despairing and gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, it all falls together.
-
Maybe the team just took a tiny vacation? Buzz used to do a northwoods camping trip IIRC

MU tweeted they practiced there during their team retreat.
-
Defensively we'll have our own Davion Mitchell (Morsell), Mark Vital (Lewis), and Tchamwa Tchatchoua (Kuath). Now we need to find Butler, Teague, and Flagler and then some offense.

Rothstein reported that Loyola beat the blocks off of UW-Madison 71-56 in a "secret scrimmage". Should be interesting to see if they report one for us. Hoping they do!
Would be an interesting measuring stick. Don't want to put too much stock into pre-season scrimmages but I have too many LUC friends giving me crap about our basketball program, so a scrimmage win against them would be ideal for me.

Yeah but UW didn’t have 3 of their best players. And it was Loyola’s Super Bowl sooooo….
-

Well, Texas did have the highest share of 2 point shots being dunk attempts last year (17.1% of 2pt shot attempts), and had been in the top 15 the past 4 years:
https://barttorvik.com/teampbp.php?year=2021&conlimit=&sort=15
So, it's certainly a focus of Shaka's offensive scheme.

Considering that in the last 3 NCAA tournaments, one program has 6 wins, a Final Four, and a Sweet 16, and the other program has one win period, I'd say it was the Super Bowl for Wisconsin, and they did their best Buffalo Bills impression.

I'd have to see if we still have the code around (that was spiral's specialty). For those that weren't here...courtesy the wayback machine...

Was this retired the year we had Acker and Cubillan starting? I think that would have been a pretty lean year for the meter.
-
But we have been told around here this team wont be able to get any more than 25-29 dunks a game.

Point
Pressure D and dunks is going to be a lot of fun to watch. I think this team is going surprise folks.

Need a "Deflection Reflection" dashboard too.
