I worked some traffic deaths.  Chaotic.   Same with fires.  Or anything that disrupts the expected flow.  Rain and darkness and all sorts of unexpected flashing lights on a strange road lead to confusion.   I have seen many drivers make poor decisions thinking they were getting out of the mess.   And a few get tickets for it.   I think it is entirely possible both sides are telling the truth as they perceive it.    Scottie thought he was doing what he was told.   He wasn't.

Reasonable takes are unwanted here. Everyone else prefers to make this about politics somehow. It’s what we’ve become.

People do understand that the 1st amendment protects ones from persecutution from the GOVERNMENT with regards to their freedom of speech right?

It doesn't mean your friends or employers have to agree / acquiesce.   

There is definitely a certain subset of society who doesn't understand how it works
