Another example to drop the celibacy rule.

I see no crime here but see why the parents are upset and at some point will have to reconcile their daughter's decision.

This has little to do with the "celibacy rule."

So 30-year-old men can hook up with teenagers?

Welp, one person escaped so we might as well get away with the rule.

We should tighten up our boarder rules.  But as soon as one illegal gets in, just open up the boarders completely to any and all that want in.

The celibacy rule or requirement needs to go. However, the story provided here is not an example as to why.

Neither the story here nor the sexual abuse cases in the church are not examples of why the celibacy rule need to go. The Catholic Church in the USA has had to bring priests in from other countries that have sufficient numbers of priests to "solve" the American church priest shortage. In addition to sometimes having strong accents and mediocre language skills, they often lack any understanding of American culture. It is ridiculous that Catholics sometimes turn to their parish priest to discuss marital problems or difficulties with their children's behavior. The knee jerk "marriage is a sacrament...." somehow qualifies a priest to handle these matters, right?

I found a number of articles about the subject, described in glowing terms by Catholic journals but more objectively by other sources, but none of them address the question/theory that one of the reasons for instituting the celibacy rule was to improve the chances of the church of receiving the inheritance of a priest who came from a family with at least some wealth.

Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

Agreed. Asking priests with limited cultural ties to lead members of a parish community is extremely difficult.

Won't matter in 20 years considering the massive decline in church attendance.

Consolidate parishes and sell property.

Already in progress.
