Geez, didn’t know there were any openings this late.

That really sucks for GB.  Wicks looks like he can coach and he bolts after one year.   I hope they can find a Lundy type to replace him.

But also better positioning if you want to make a big leap.  If you have decent success at a low major, save for a S16 run or the like, you can maybe get a look at a good mid major job.  But if you parlay that success into a top P5 assistant gig, then suddenly you can be getting legit looks.

Austin Claunch was the HC at Nicholls State, did pretty well, was a popular name but was getting really low level looks.  His predecessor there did well and moved up to South Alabama, hardly a sparkling gig.  So Claunch left Nicholls, did a year under Oats at Bama, and just got the UTSA job in the AAC

Older folks with more info may be able to confirm or deny this, but I've heard Deane had Gottleib committed to MU until the administration stepped in and said no due to the circumstances of his departure from ND.
