Yes, when Richmond took him down on the block, it went poorly.

Often overlooked is the job he does fronting the post when switching with Oso.   Did a respectable job against Edey.   Did a good job today against Dixon.

Just awesome today. At one point well into the game, my son says to me wow he is affecting the game so much and look at his line, all zeros except for fouls. That didn’t last long after he said that, AND Stevie kept up the defensive intensity. It rubbed off on Jop, on Gold, on Tyler. What a performance by the unsung, Stevie Mitchell.

…there were games early on that Stevie’s shooting was a significant negative. Still is, at times. What was he from 3 at one point, 2-20? Stevie plays great D, for sure…and I’m happy for his excellent game today. But I admit I was hoping Shaka started Chase after Maui.

Yes.  And I actually thought the best play he made was a little pocket pass to Oso while driving left in the lane.  We're more dangerous if multiple guys make plays off the dribble.  Both Steve and Kam are capable dimers.

I know 99.69% of people here love Stevie.  But since we've been hit with some injuries these are his numbers over the last 6 games:

10.8 PPG
4.7 RPG
3 SPG(!!!!) And that's with 0 vs DePaul
FG%: 55.8%
3%: 41.7% (5/12)

Big time contributions and as we all know his value isn't remotely measured by these stats.

It's a huge boost to the ceiling of this team, imo. Seeing him turn into a weapon that can keep the defense honest (and his affinity for being a lull-breaker) is amazing. It's been a fun ride to watch him take a leap this year.

I've been skeptical of Stevie in the past but he's definitely leveled up on offense. He's gone from defensive specialist to a really good two way player.

I say a lot of nonsense crap, but shortly after SJ22’s injury we were discussing Zaide and Tre stepping in and stepping up and it dawned on me that the biggest silver lining could be Stevie’s transformation offensively.

He was just coming back from his own injury and looking his elite self defensively, and was starting to look a bit more comfortable offensively.
His hand has been forced, and oftentimes that’s what it takes for a guy like Stevie to come out of his so to speak offensive shell.

It’s not easy when you’ve got elite scorers all around you and you watch yourself clank three after three for months, it’s much easier for the doubts to creep in.
That said, there were tall tales of his offensive abilities and we are starting to see some of the capabilities.

This team needs Stevie to be more aggressive offensively, and Stevie needs Stevie to do so as well.
His drives to the hoop with the ability to score have been a breath of fresh air.
Hopefully the outside shot continues to follow suit, even if at a low 30s clip just to keep defenses honest.

The bad news is that I still think he needs to channel his inner Kam some more on those drives to the hoop- several of his drives are so strong that the layup seems to go up very strong too and seems to almost miss, but it hasn’t missed much yet.
Add a little more finesse/creativity on the finish and he will be cookin.

I have no idea how he made that. Off hand, falling away from the hoop, from like 6 feet out, not a layup right at the rim. I would’ve tried throwing up a prayer and it would’ve gone over the backboard. He put it on the square with touch as if it was an uncontested layup.

On those late free throws, I had a premonition. He was standing at the line for so long it reminded me of a game not long ago when the same thing happened and he clanged FT's. He's basically freezing the kicker - he should move off the FT line and only come back when they are ready to give him the ball.

My posting history shows I'm pretty meh on Stevie.

He's great. Knows his role. Fantastic player.

Stevie was great yesterday. The second half may have been his best in an MU uniform.

After the first basket, anyone know where Kam went?

Yea he missed some shots and then found his way to the bench for a chunk of the 2H.

Shaka went heavier with Stevie and Chase alongside TyKo.

It’s a good thing that Shaka can roll without an all BE caliber guard when he’s having an off day and the team doesn’t miss a beat

I hope that’s all it was and not some kind of injury.

Thrilled we have Chase playing well, but we need a healthy, effective Kam.

Shaka mentioned in the post game that he’s still bothered by the ankle.

Thanks for that info. I'm not surprised, given the way Kam was moving.

Kams defense has never been stellar and its worse while nursing an ankle injury. If he's not making shots and Chase is.... chase is going to take those minutes

Stevie's brother got accepted into MU Law School. Maybe he will have walk on eligibility as a grad transfer 😅.

It looked like his wrist was bothering him last night so much that he wasn't using his right hand unless he had to.  You could see him try to flex it a lot.

I hope it is my imagination and nothing serious.

I also saw that.  I recall him holding it in the Providence game and think he may have injured it then.

He's definitely been wincing and grabbing at that wrist or hand several times over the last few games. While this year is probably more "normal," it highlights how fortunate MU was with their health last year.

I love watching Stevie play. He runs around so much on each possession, that he's bound to get his hands on a loose ball. He amazes me how many times he's able to be in the right spot to get a loose ball.
I agree with this analysis.

Stevie said in tonight's show he had tweaked at Xavier and last night a firm handshake tweaked it again, crazy.

Pile O'Dung with a pile of clutch FTs to clinch the win at X. Also, a huge 3 and some great D.

Can't spell Dung without the D!

Stevie to me is an awesome person and great player. We got a chance for a photo opportunity and chat session with him at the Shaka Show this Thursday. Mentioned to him voted for him in Pennsylvania High School State player of the year which Stevie Won and he was very thankful and appreciative. But a major outstanding thing about Stevie is that he talked with everyone and waited until the person he was talking to was finished to move on to the next person. Stevie I was told does this all the time. That is usual for Stevie. Stevie is very kind

.406

That was Stevie's 3-point percentage in conference play this season.

He also shot .606 on 2-pointers.

But yeah ... Stevie can't shoot.

Love it.  Hard not to root for the guy.  All the guys on this team will hopefully be legendary in a few weeks with nice run in the tournament.

My feeling about Mitchell shooting 3’s is that he should limit himself to ones where he is left alone and can square up. Almost like a 20 foot free throw. He seems to make most of those, especially when they are near the top of the key.

If he is rushed at all, his percentage goes way down to near zero.

He had two against UConn that I was pretty sure weren’t going in as soon as he let them go because he wasn’t completely set and was drifting  a little.

Generally agree, though he's gotten pretty good at the corner 3 too, as long as he's set and ready. The one he took vs. UConn after getting an offensive rebound - he rushed to the corner and just fired, missing badly - is the only one in recent weeks I remember thinking was really bad.

But it's been quite some time since I've said, "No!" whenever Stevie's gone up to shoot. I want him to shoot open 3s now - make the opponent pay for disrespecting him.

Every coach in the nation would kill to have a Stevie on their squad.  He's integral to our success and has improved every season.
