Agreed, but they don't have complete independence on what the standards are.

True. But you have no idea what academic standards colleges and universities will and willn't be allowed to set for athletes and neither do I. But you're the only one here who keeps speculating over and over again on the subject as if he's an authority on it.

Of course Nvidia beat (but I've only got them in index funds).

But, wanted to link a couple calculators that I like to play with, inspired by Goose's question in the economy thread.  The first will give you a S&P (historical) rate of return over a set # of years.  And then you can use that rate with the second calculator to approximate how much you missed out by not just dumping extra $ into a S&P fund over the years.  lol

I contemplated buying Nvidia last September, but I thought it was too expensive at over $400 per share. Shows you what I know about stock picking.

My investing error is typically holding too long, so I get you reluctance to sell. But in a rare instance, I agree with Lenny: why are you still a shareholder?

I've shared here before that early on I felt I really missed the chance to invest in TSLA, but then when Elon began acting incredibly erratically (to put it in the nicest possible terms) I felt like I had dodged a bullet. Add to this the fact that he is effectively the CEO of 5 companies while actually spending inordinate amounts of time posting culture war, conspiracy theory, and antisemitic stuff on Xitter, and it makes for a case study in bad management.

Agree with everything you say here.

Every work place holds employees to some kind of standards.
Agreed, but they don't have complete independence on what the standards are.

Taking a moment today to remember our fallen heroes who lost their lives in defense of our great country, including my Uncle Joseph who fought and died in Korea many years ago.  May they all Rest In Peace, and may we always honor the great sacrifice they made for us.

I wondered how he'd live without the Pac-12. Turns out, he won't.

Interesting input. Sheesh

I'm going to guess you haven't taken many firefighter qualification examinations. You'd be surprised how much math, and college level math, is on there. Pumping dynamics are all mathematically based and understanding friction loss, pressures required to supply water vertically through a standpipe, and other mathematical concepts actually are relevant to public servants.

As far as philosophy, the bulk of the oral exam I took involved ethical questions and how to respond in various situations that mixed ethics and philosophy. All of those concepts go into the scoring system to differentiate candidates.

If anything, those topics have become more, not less, prevalent in recent years.
I have never taken a firefighters exam.

I was specific in the type of math I mentioned for a reason. My assumption is firefighters need significant knowledge of certain math, engineering, physics and chemistry.

And while, in a general sense, ethics is a branch of philosophy, but I don't think having logic based argument on the meaning of life or a background in the theories of Freud is a job requirement.

Grayson purged all pictures of his fiancĂ© from Instagram. According to media reports, the two of them  were supposed to get married on April 27 and it obviously didn't happen. Seems like per comments from Grayson she was a big part of helping him deal with his various demons.  Parents did not mention her in their statement as among those who loved Grayson. So wondering if this was a heart break situation compounded by all the other things. Everything about this is sad.
