Hanley was a four-year varsity player at Catholic Memorial…As a senior, he averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in helping lead his team to the Division II State Championship. Following his senior season, he was selected first team all-conference, all-county, and all-area as well as second team all-state.
As a junior, Hanley averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals.
As a sophomore, he averaged 11.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds and as a freshman, 7.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds.
Hanley was team captain during his junior and senior seasons. He also earned a varsity letter in football as a wide receiver in 2002.
Hanley walked-on at Marquette for the 2004-05 season.
He logged 18 minutes in a 76-55 Marquette victory over the Houston Cougars.
During the summer or 2005, he underwent surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and was expected to return in October or November.
