With all the talk coming out lately of MU continuing to recruit for the 09 class, especially bigger players, I wonder if Maymon is staying motivated to get qualified?  I'm not trying to start a rumor but honestly, that's the thought that keeps running through my mind when I see posts like this one.

could also be recruiting against the possibility of existing roster attrition.

Maymon has been skipping AAU to work on his grades, which is a good sign, but there is still a lot of work to be done to make sure everything is ok.  Plus, Buycks was supposed to be taking classes right now at Indian Hills to guarantee that he would have all his coursework completed and be ready to go for the MU summer sessions next year.  So there are still questions about him as well.

Cadougan and Williams are apparently good students, so we don't really have to worry about them.

Seems to only be a blog, but it claims Cadougan isn't just a good student, but has a 4.0 GPA.

Good point.

I've been ripped a new pretty boy for asking questions about qualification for those two recruits. If someone like you brings up the topic maybe I'm not just a raving Buzz hating lunatic as portrayed.

As for roster attrition, I'd normally agree with the point but it might not happen with this team. Acker, Cubillan, and Hayward should be no concern. Butler and Fulce should be no concern because of Buzz. You'd assume Otule and McMorrow are no concern because of the long term outlook on those two.

That leaves Mbakwe and Hazel. I know the rumors won't die but seeing as though he already sat out 3/4 of a season, sitting out another would suck for Mbakwe. Hazel remains the only likely possibility though there are plenty of minutes available for him to make an impact.

My thoughts still center on replacing 2009 commits rather then an opening created by a transfer. Part of me does wonder when covering your bases in a committed 2009 class turns the corner to actively recruiting in a committed 2009 class.

First of all we do not really know if Buzz plans on signing anyone else.

However, if he does there are several possiblities besides a current recruit not getting in because of academics:

1. Not likely, but Hayward could go pro.
2. We have 3 centers in McMorrow, Otule, and Mbakwe. The bottom one decides to play elsewhere. This becomes even more likely if they sign another center.
3. Culliban does not recover from his shoulder surgeries. I believe MU could say his playing career is over and keep him on scholarship and use his scholarship for someone else.
4. Sounds like Hazel is improving. Given that will he be happy as a bench warmer after next year?
5. If they got Snaer(which is the one I am hoping for) that would give us a highly rated 2g and pg who are going to play ahead of Buyckes. If that happens then I think Buyckes rethinks his commitment.
6. Aker is a Crean recruit and will have four years in, so Buzz could let him go.
7. Does Butler or Fulce stay around if they are not starters.
Basically MU has a lot of depth, which means someone that could start elsewhere will not be starting here. Not every player is willing to accept that, especially if they are playing behind someone younger than them, which means they have no hope of ever being a starter.

My guess is that a Crean player will be gone.

I think what makes Buzz such a good recruiter is that he NEVER stops recruiting.  I am not talking Sampson's illegal contact...I am talking constant analysis, contact when allowed, reaching out to hs and club coaches, etc.  During black out periods, TC would use that time to get with his hommies on ESPN or CBS to keep his name in the press.  Buzz's approach is constant and stealthy.  My guess is that he feels if it is still allowed, and these guys won't be deciding until the Fall or Spring--so in case something happens, why not keep it going?    Contingency planning--just like his letter writing with the coaches.

Buzz is a hand picked successor by Tom Crean for many reasons. The differences between the two aren't many and after nine years there could be some that dislike Buzz as much as they disliked Crean. It just takes time. These things happen.

Crean was lauded by those closest to the program for his work ethic on the recruiting trail. So is Buzz.

Crean was hammered pretty hard for over signing scholarships the last two seasons. Buzz may be recruiting for "just in case" but if we do take another commit, the reactions would be interesting to see.

As for the media thing, people really need to let it go. Every coach has their style and that's Crean's. I mean, I know some MU fans who have already tired of Buzz' "aw-shucks I've been the head coach for X amount of days and I'm still grateful and humbled" mantra that shows up in every interview whether video or print. Everyone has their own tastes.

It's just strange that people rip TC a new pretty boy for the media whore thing (valid in some ways) whereas they love it when Bruce Pearl spreads his legs for ESPN any which way he can.  ?-(

I know I was making fun of his media image with my comments...but really I was just saying that was TC's way to keep the recruiting buzz up in the black out periods.  He has a well connected media posse that he tapped into for pub.  I meant it in a good way as it was a national play (knowing it got real old in Milwaukee do to oversaturation).  Buzz is more behind the scenes and more direct, though.

Lol. Very mature.  ::)

For the record, this is my 40th post in the month of July. Of those 40 posts, I've written the word "Crean" in 4 of them.

I've got nothing to move on from and you should really cease spouting gibberish. You're attacking the wrong target.

I would beg to differ on that one...
