Seven-Iron Maiden? Heavy metal drummer to help European Ryder Cup bid

Meet the European Ryder Cup's secret weapon – Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain.

European captain Nick Faldo has enrolled the heavy metal star as part of his backroom staff and hopes he will help to motivate the players.

The bizarre union came about in April when McBrain was on the phone to a friend of his, Scotty Cuppet, who works with golf company Taylor Made.

Cuppet told McBrain he was working with Faldo over a new deal and the multiple-major winner was standing right beside him.

The drummer ended up having a chat with Faldo, who had recently bought a set of drums and asked for a few lessons, which led to the two becoming friends.

It's not known as of yet in what capacity the drummer will be working with the team, who will be looking
