Per this article, which concedes he'll probably end up in Europe:

QuoteMarquette standout Dan Fitzgerald, who worked out with the Wolves, will also work out for the Milwaukee Bucks, but is expected to end up in Europe.

Still good to see him getting a shot...

MR.HAYWARD

please do not blame fitzgeralds lack of relative success on anyone but dan fitzgerald.  his lack of confidence in his abilities was his undoing as tommy lasorda always said some players make it happen, some watch it happen, and others wonder what happened.  unfortunately dans personal makeup always had him in the middle category

FWIW, Fitz can play on my Hoop-It-Up team any day.  ;)

I think we should go ahead and name the weak foul as guy makes a lay-up and hits the ensuing free throw after Dan Fitzgerald. We could call it a Fitz or a DF for brevity sake. I like the way it sounds, "Jerel McNeal just DF'd Michael Flowers." Seriously, I am pretty sure that Fitz would hold an NCAA record in this category if it were officially tracked. Fitz could definitely shoot and he always hustled but his weak fouls killed me.

MR.HAYWARD

exactly my point weather it was diving on the floor, fouling a guy or taking an open jump shot there was always a hesitation with fitz gereald of ten resulting in a weak foul, no rebound, no shot or of course the coup d'grace was his uncontested travel as louisville scored 7 straight points two years ago.  everyone remebers smith's buzzer beater but there is not enough time for that if DF does not travel while hesitating with no one gaurding him.

bilsu

He did get called for a lot of weak fouls. But the thing that was most irritating was that it often coincided with one of our players being fouled much harder on the other end and no call being made. I think he got called for being stupid and for not playing physical.

TJ

I'll never understand how a 6'10" basketball player could possibly have so many three pointers blocked, nor how he could turn an open shot into a contested shot so easily.

The Lens

Just watched the MU-South Carolina game.  Amazing how many of those guys didn't seem to get a whole lot better from that game.  Fitz being #1.

Sheesh.  ?-(

This is a lot of dancing on Fitz's grave.

He certainly wasn't perfect, but he worked hard and graduated.

Best of luck, Dan.

I put it more at the foot of the man who was more concerned with the volume of Cotton Eyed Joe instead of Big Man Drills.  Not many guys got a whole lot better under TC.

And the phony revisionist history continues ... yawn.  :o

Ask Steve Novak, Travis Diener, Dwyane Wade, Brian Wardle, Jerel McNeal, Cordell Henry, Ousmane Barro, Lazar Hayward, Todd Townsend, among others, if they were better before they arrived on campus or when they left (or will be leaving).

He's gone.

2002, check the tape.  While you were bowing down, I was noting our CMO was a very average development and bench coach who excelled b/c of unmatched game prep and hard practices.  The line work smarter, noty harder was said b/c of guys like TC.

Pak, most of the guys you note were early in TC's regime, when his staffs were much more solid.  I will give you Jerel but would argue Ooze, watch the So Car game from the guys in that game only Jerel has shown marked improvement.

Let me be MORE clear.

I'm not debating if TC was a good coach or not. (check out what I wrote)

I'm NOT DEBATING IF TC WAS A GOOD COACH OR NOT.

You and I have differing opinions... and there is no need to go down that road.

Your comments seem like they are from the guy who got dumped, and then constantly reminds all of his friends about how much of a bitch his ex-gf was.

We get it, dude. Enough already. Just drink your beer and quit staring at her from across the bar.

You're using the wrong analogy '02...I'm not a jilted lover, I'm the best friend of a guy who just broke off an engagement that was about to end in divorce.

Yeah, let's check the tape of who improved and who did not over the last three years.  Green is improvement in that category, yellow is a roughly equal performance, and red/pink is a decline.  The key category is Win%, which is basically a representation of that player's plus/minus.

Sure looks like a lot of green moving from 05-06 to 06-07 and then 07-08...  so much for the myth that players didn't develop under Crean.

Would increased PT better those numbers?

Usually it does not.  But I see a huge difference between playing time and usage.  Fitz got plenty of playing time (~12 mpg), but minimal usage.  i.e. - there would be a lot of games where he'd disappear on the court.

However, usually when a player has a larger amount of playing time / usage, then their offensive and defensive numbers get worse.  They tend to take more bad shots and get exposed for defensive limitations more.  Therefore, look at someone like Lazar, who increased his usage, ORtg, and DRtg.

Note that the usage numbers are listed in the charts above too.

MR.HAYWARD

The argument is really silly.  To argue that a 17-18 year kid playing in an HS program then does not improve during 4 years or physically and mental maturity not to add the fact of playing on a daily basis with 11-12 other top players and a 30+ game season against some of the best competition in the world coupled with all the practices and workouts is simply ludicrous to say they did not improve over 4 years.
In Fitz's case it was all from the shoulders up.  Had all the tools but rarely ever found the confidence to get it done.  I am sure every coach can relate to having a player like that, one of the most frustrating things in coaching.

So you are ripping the guy's ex after it's over?

What does that do?
