I haven't been around lately and saw the news about Maymon.  Sounds like a great potential catch for Buzz and staff.  That said, don't Maymon, Wilson, and Williams all play the same position?  With Maymon & Williams in pocket, I don't know why Wilson would want to come to MU and fight for minutes.  Add in Fulce & Butler, how are we gonna find minutes for all these guys?   ?-(

Not so fast...Maymon is not in pocket.  Yet.  But if he does commit to MU, and they all play the same position (which I'm not completely clear on), we have great depth at forward.  If Wilson is not better than the other two, we really don't need him then, do we?

You really think 3 top 100 players that play the same position and have roughly the same game, would commit to the same school?  My point here is that IF Maymon commits, I think we can kiss Wilson good bye.  No matter how good Wilson is, I think he'd be an idiot to put himself into this type of situation!  Let's not forget that virtually every MU fan for the past two years has thought that Wilson was a must get.

Now back to my original post, can someone compare their games and let us know if they can co-exist especially in light of Lazar, Fulce, & Butler on the roster?

Looks to be a moot point. I just hope Buzz has had the right amount of foresight and lands Maymon on Tuesday.  I've thought for a while that we lost almost all of our ground with Wilson when Crean left.  There is still a chance but it doesn't look good, which is really disappointing.  I hope people don't use this possibility as a chance to condemn Buzz....give the guy a chance.

They all project at the same position in college, but they don't play it now.  Maymon plays inside at the 4 with some time at the 3.  Williams plays the 3 with some time at the 4.  Wilson has played occasionally at the 2, but he spends most of his time at the 3 and 4.  Maymon is best on the low block and driving to the basket.  He doesn't have much range.  Williams is a slasher, but he also has decent range.  Wilson is sort of in the middle.

In college they will all have to develop their perimeter games because they won't be able to play the 4.  They are approximately the same size as Lazar Hayward, and we've seen how well that works when you have to go up against bigger, stronger competition.  So they'll need to diversify their games.  I don't know that even if you got them, you could play all 3 on the court at once.  I don't think Maymon has the size to play the 4 against most teams, and neither Wilson nor Williams really have the handle to play the 2 for long stretches.

That said, I don't think it is something we will have to worry about.

It sounds like they all can play multiple positions 2 through 4. As long as you have a strong ball handling point guard it will work. Reminds me somewhat of the Illinois team that had interchangable 6-6 players back in the 80's. I have heard Williams described as a 2-3,  and Maymon and Wilson as 2,3 & 4. Fulce as a 2,3 &4 and Butler as a 2-3 and possibly a 1. I do not know if Butler would have the strong ball handling skills referenced above so I do not see him as the point. I have seen none of the players above play, but I am excited about the possiblity. Besides that it is not uncommon to sign multiple players at the same positions. Look at Georgetown's incoming class with 3 top players who play the 4-5 positions.

Wilson said, "I'm still open to all schools."

The March 2009 announcement date may work in MU's favor.

Could also be reminiscient of some of the Louisville teams that always gave MU fits.

Memphis sure ran a lot of 6'5"- 6'8" guys out there this year, as did Louisville.   It will be nice to have the next guy off the bench be a versatile 6'7", rather than a really quick 5'8".

I thought Williams was a pretty good perimter shooter and both Maymon and Wilson have brought the ball up for their teams.  In other words, all 3 can be at the court at the same time and offer opponents nightmares in guarding all of them.

Because....   ??

You can never have too many athletes, especially taller than 6-6" athletes. Wilson can play anywhere between a 2 and 4. Maymon is better suited as a 3 or better yet a 4. Really little similarities between their skills. Sign them both and Buzz will figure out where to play them. Obviously because we have offered both Buzz would like them both.

Because it looks like MU is not in his "Top 4" right now.

That's simply not true in all cases.  In a given year, we probably offer upwards of 20 players.  even now, we have probably offered at least 4-5 point guards for 2009.  You think we want all of them to come here?  plus, all offers are not created equal.  that being said, i think Buzz would take Wilson and Maymon if they both wanted to come here.

nyg

Take Maymon, with Eric Williams and Wilson.  Add a point guard and like BrewCity stated 2009 would be like the old Louisville teams.  Man, that would be fun to watch and also be fun for the players. Athletic wings running the court and actually having the ability to score and rebound.  If that happens, it could be the best recruited class in MU history.  First Williams committed, now we wait and see how it turns out with the other three slots.

Murffieus

From what I can tell, Erik Williams is a #3 and Maymon despite his size is a #4 (has more of an inside game)------a Charles Barkely type (wide post anyone?).

I think that works in our favor, because I believe all next year MU will be in the top 15 to top 10... and Buzz can have some representation at all of Wilson's games, unlike UNC and other big name schools that are too far away to get too.

Huh? That line of reasoning worked real well with Frasor and Shumpert too. This is big time athletics. There are funds budgeted for recruiting. Distance means virtually nothing.
Wilson ain't coming, distance or no distance. If there has been anything learned over the past 7 weeks, its that players commit to coaches and not schools.
BTW, top 10 or 15? I'd like to think so also. But, until Buzz's "winning" offense and "winning" defense are revealed, how can anyone be certain?

Because we return a team that was top 15 last year under Crean who you know (and said on multiple occasions) wasn't an X and O's guy.  We don't lose much either.  I am not worried at all about this year, this team will be fine, and will give Buzz good experience as a coach with an experienced team
