Losing recruits = continuity?

ok, I'm confused- obviously.
the primary (I'm assuming) reason Buzz in on board as HC is this whole continuity issue thingy- right?  isn't that what MU admin. stated?

now, I suppose that could mean many things-

but one thing it hasn't seemed to mean, and something many of us figured it would mean, is keeping/attracting/signing current and targeted player/recruits.
right?
keep the guys in house, in house and keep those promising to join up, join up--- and ensure that those who have expressed interest in MU continue to do so, despite the bailing of the HC that coordinated the recruitment of that player to this university.
right??

but if we take a peek at the status of this 'continuity' regarding players/recruits, it looks more like a crashing stock chart than a steady, continuous line.

turnover is certainly expected.
TC raiding the pantry, while borderline sleazy, is still not unexpected.

but to say this was a continuity hire, yet signed players unsign, and 'high' interest 3-4-5? star recruits summarily exclude MU for greener? pastures is far from continuity in my opinion.

not sure where this is all going to take the program-
on the surface, it doesn't 'feel' right at all.

I would try to focus on the fact that we are going to be good next year.

2009 is potentially bad but could be good depending if we get the high profile in state recruits we are going after.  If 2009 is bad, it is impossible to blame anyone but Crean.

The continuity argument has been flawed since day one.

One can see positives to the Buzz hire but the majority claimed continuity as the #1 reason and, at this point, it seems their faith has not been rewarded.

Perhaps it's still speculated upon because people with agendas continue to float the possibility despite Trevor himself publicly stating that he's not going anywhere.

Continuity is not a reason I hire a new coach, unless I am Kansas, UCLA or the other top 5 programs. Everyone is so focused on next year and I think that is major mistake. I would rather suck for a year or two if that is what it takes to get better.

Buzz was hired because he was easy hire. MU admin crossed their fingers collectively and hoping next year is a spring board. Unless recruiting improves quickly it is going to look more like a trapdoor than a spring board.

My harping on Wilson is simple. His signing makes Buzz known nationally.

Rowley, Hibbert, Mirkovic and Anderson were not coming here regardless of who the coach was.  Didn't matter if it was Crean, Buzz or anyone else.

T. Mbakwe is definitley coming back. See article posted by Rosiak in the journal sentinal april 16th. If he can stay healthy he should make a huge contribution to the pretty weak front.

You cannot make statements about losing recruits until the final tally is in.  If Buzz gets Lacy, Wilson and Erik Williams comes, then all these others guys will long since been forgotten.

And as far as Naji and Creek, would they have stayed if we had hired lowery, Grant, or some other coach?  Maybe, maybe not...they seem to be committed to Crean not MU.

Creek committed to IU without even visiting the campus.  I cannot think of much of anything else that would show any clearer that his committment was to Crean not a university.

I don't think everyone does, I believe 99% believe he is coming back which is a very good thing.  And despite the arguments of him playing last year, I'm glad he got a taste of it and has this offseason to understand what he has to do this year.  He will be an important part.

see, that's the point...
none of the others WERE hired, with the tag phrase "Buzz = continuity" the reasoning behind hiring Williams vs. anyone else.

I'd venture to guess that this meant keeping TC's players here, the recruits on board and the program continuing to move in a positive TC-laid out direction.

who knows about the last, the recruits are NOT sticking, and our player base remains in tact for the most part.

2009 recruits - Buzz's true "first class." But Crean's contacts with some of those recruits will muck things up. In fact, it'll muck things up for another 2-3 years.

2010 recruits - Probably 80-90% all Buzz.

2011 - recruits - ALL Buzz.

After this coming season, we'll see what he can bring in. With three schollies from the departing amigos, I'm sure he'll be pitching a "fab five" mentality to incoming recruits, but maybe for the 2010 season.

Don't know if you can really put that one on Buzz, Fitzgerald didn't have MU as one of his top schools when Crean was still here.  He announced his top 5 in February, and MU wasn't a part of it.  In March he gave his top 4, and MU wasn't a part of that either.  So not being in his top 3 shouldn't really surprise anyone.

Continuity also includes being able to achieve the most with the current group of players and not initiating a totally new system where talented seniors are having to adjust and this resulting in both the program and their futures taking a hit.  I think from a morale standpoint Buzz was the right call for the seniors.
