Testing: Jerel McNeal
Result: The surprising thing here is that McNeal, not Dominic James, was the one who declared for the draft. McNeal did lead the Golden Eagles in scoring, but James was the one who flirted with the NBA the past two seasons. New coach Buzz Williams has the pieces in place, if McNeal returns, as he should, to be a factor in the top half of the Big East yet again. The same question of whether the frontcourt can be consistent enough may hit the Golden Eagles in October. But this squad is on stable enough ground to be a factor next season.

NBADRAFT.net doesn't have McNeal in the top 100 right now, and that list was updated today

Draft Express has McNeal rated 24th best Junior (James as 23rd).  They rank McNeal 12th best shooting guard

Take them for what they're worth...just opinions by a lot of people that aren't really experts.

I think McNeal would have to play the 2 in the NBA.  He has neither the handle nor the floor vision to play the point.  I just don't see how he translates to the NBA.  He can defend in any league, though.

Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Oh, for sure...but I'd be happy likewise if he lands on an NBA roster on Opening Day.

Looks like they have him listed at 80.

Today they do, yesterday they didn't

CT Warrior----watch just about any NBA game----and watch the PG----they aren't any different than any other perimeter on the floor. There are no pressure defenses to overcome and much of the time the PG doesn't even bring the ball down the floor and make the first pass to enter the offense.

In evaluating McNeal's future NBA position as a SG-----i think you are assumming that his duties will be similar to an MU PG-----not true at all-----in fact completely different!

This might be true for teams with sh*tty pg's like the Bucks, but watch the Hornets, Jazz, Suns, and GS Warriors then tell me that a pg is interchangeable with any other perimeter player.

They don't pressure the ball much in the NBA much because those guys have great handles on the ball, something McNeal obviously doesn't.  Not sure which games you are watching but the good point guards (Paul, Nash, Williams) almost always initiate the offenses, especially in the half court, unless there is a superstar (Lebron, Kobe) who shoulders a lot of that responsibility.

What happens if McNeal continues his rich vein of form in the camps and inches closer to a strong second round pick (35-45), would he be surprised enough to stay in the draft and take his chance?

If something like this happens, we could be for a bumpier ride then expected next season.

Murffieus

McNeal is no shooting guard in the NBA. He'll be a PG.

PG is a different position in the NBA as opposed to DIv 1-----brings the ball down the floor only about half the time so he's like a wing. When he does bring the ball down the floor, after he makes that first pass he's also like a wing.

some of you are too used to seeing Crean's team play where just about everything started and ended with the PG.
