The Georgia Pipeline? Marrow...then Harrison?
« on: April 24, 2008, 07:12:20 PM »
With the Marrow rumors, I was interested in the Georgia Stars AAU when I found this:

1) Interesting Link (Georgia Stars): http://www.coachbobell.com/publication.html

Did you know? Two NBA sons in Georgia!

Glen Rice, Jr.
SHAWN KEMP, JR. - Aren't there like 10 Kemp, Jrs. all over the US?
Edit: Ralph Sampson, Jr. - Going to Minnesota
http://www.coachbobell.com/borank.html

and

2) Herbert Harrison, 6-4, SF, Northview High School

"When it is all said and done, Harrison could be a high-major player. He's blessed with a good body, long length, solid speed and nice lift off of the floor. Morrison is clearly a project at this stage of the game but his father was a player at Marquette and there is some intrigue with his God-given tools."

Wickliffe?  Too funny.  So many good times spent in Wickliffe

Snippets from or about Darrius Marrow via various webpages:

“For South Carolina, I think I bring strength on the inside. I’m bigger than all the post players they have now,” Morrow said. “I’m not a finesse player. I just feel I can bring a power game.”
http://www.thestate.com/188/story/350227.html

"I rarely talk to them at all, and they go recruit other players in our class but they’ve barely talked to me, and I’m a signee," Morrow said. "So I just don’t feel comfortable up there any more."

Morrow said he never met with him face-to-face with Horn. His coach, Phil McCrary, said Horn was to meet with Morrow last week but ended up sending assistant Cypheus Bunton.

"That kind of took the kid back because you want this kid to come play for you and yet you can’t take time out of your schedule to meet with the young man," McCrary said.

Also, McCrary said every time Morrow spoke with Horn on the telephone they "had to go through the athletic director to get coach Horn to call him."

Horn declined to comment on that.

Horn was to meet with Morrow today, McCrary said, adding he asked Morrow to wait on a decision until after that. But, McCrary said, "Darius all of sudden called me today and said, ‘Coach, I just don’t feel comfortable going there.’"

Morrow said he didn’t know where he might land now.

McCrary said he had talked to coaches from "a couple" schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference about Morrow. McCrary declined to identify the schools.

If my memory serves correct, Harrison's sister was Jayne Kennedy.  She was a model and on NFL today as a side-line reporter.

She also had some interesting photos or a movie that forced her into retirement. She was hot back when she would go to NFC team's practices and interview stars. Brent Musburger, Irv Cross, Jimmy The Greek and Jayne Kennedy were a great start to NFL football back in the day. It was actually more entertaining than four former players.
It's scary to see how much Jr. looks like dad right down to the facial hair.

Sounds like Darrin Horn isn't that excited to talk or keep him.

Or is it like Nick Williams and Marquette, where we gave him his unconditional release. From the outside, it may look like we weren't as interested to keep Nick as we were to keep Tyshawn.

Perhaps, but the comments about sending an assistant and not exactly picking up the phone seem a bit odd.

Not to mention a comment from Horn with the effect of "He's not our recruit."

Well, EXCUSE ME, Darrin.

This is such a key line, and perhaps a reason why we might get him...persistence and interest.

"Morrow expressed satisfaction with Horn’s hiring two weeks ago. But the player said he was upset Horn did not visit him personally, instead sending assistant coach Cypheus Bunton, while Morrow read that Horn was visiting other recruits for future classes.

Horn did have a visit scheduled for today, but Morrow left a message Thursday night to tell him not to bother.

“I’m really not feeling wanted at the University of South Carolina anymore, ever since the coaching change,” said Morrow, who signed last November with previous coach Dave Odom. “I understand he’s getting ready to move from Kentucky and all that. But he went to go see all these other recruits, and I signed. I have already signed a letter-of-intent to play at his school. And he couldn’t come and see me one time. We barely even talked. If I go there, I feel like I’m not going to have a good relationship with him.”

Hoopscoop had Morrow rated 366th...on the same list Nick Williams at 52.

Look at the date on that list.  That's from 2006, it doesn't even have Ty Taylor on the list, and he's now in their top 50.  It has Williams at #52, but one of Hoopscoop's updates, he was completely out of their top 150 and since then has made it back to #70.

You might want to try a more updated ranking.
