It's been an emotionally draining couple of weeks for Tyshawn Taylor. Shortly after meeting with new Marquette head coach Buzz Williams, the point guard from St. Anthony in Jersey City, N.J., ultimately decided to reopen his recruitment. Taylor will arrive in Lawrence on Wednesday and spend a few days on KU's campus. Jayhawk Slant spoke to the three-star prospect about his upcoming visit and if a fifth and final visit will take place.

Tyshawn Taylor will arrive in Lawrence on Wednesday
"My meeting with Marquette was good," said Taylor. "I know who Coach Buzz Williams is and I know what type of person he is. I know that he wanted to meet Coach Hurley, so they were able to talk on the phone. I didn't actually decide to reopen open my recruitment until a couple of days after the meeting.

"I just decided that it was best to take some other visits and look at some other schools," he added. "Kansas, Marquette, Georgia Tech, Florida and Virginia Tech are the schools I'm looking at. Those are the only schools that I'm going to consider."

Coach Bill Self and his staff are more than familiar with Taylor, the 6-foot-3, 160-pound point guard. The Jayhawks actively recruited the No. 101 ranked player in the class of 2008, and even traveled to New Jersey to conduct an in-home visit early on in his recruitment.

When Self and his staff got word that Taylor might decide to look elsewhere, they were prepared to make a move when he was officially released from his Letter-of-Intent with Marquette.

Once Taylor was released from his Letter-of-Intent, it didn't take long for Self and assistant Coach Joe Dooley to make their way back to New Jersey.

"Coach Self and Coach Dooley actually came up on Friday," said Taylor. "I got my release on Thursday and they came by the school on Friday. They just talked to me about the situation at Kansas. They talked to me about playing and what my role would be.

"Coach Self and Coach Dooley just gave me an idea of what to expect if I come to Kansas," he added. "I have a great relationship with Coach Self and Coach Dooley. The great thing about Coach Self is that he is strictly business. He doesn't beat around the bush."

Early on in his recruitment, Taylor officially visited Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Marquette. Now that he has decided to open things back up, Taylor will board a plane on Wednesday and make his way to Lawrence.

It should come as no surprise that Taylor is looking forward to spending a few days on KU's campus. In fact, there are a couple of things he would like to accomplish during his stay.

"I am really looking forward to my visit to Kansas," he said. "The one thing I really want to do is play with the players. I want to see what the campus is like and see what the town is like. I also want to see how the players live.

"I just want to be comfortable with my decision, so it's important for me to be comfortable with everything about the school," he added. "I just want to get out and spend time on campus and get a feel for the surroundings."

Should Taylor eventually decide to give the nod to Kansas, the talented point guard feels that he has the talent and ability to come in and play right away.

"I play hard," he said. "I see the floor well and I get up and down the court. I play good when I play with good players. I have the ability to attack the basket and I am very versatile. I am very aggressive on the defensive end of the court.

"I'm a winner," he added. "I think that's the best part of my game."

According to Taylor, a visit to Florida could take place, but nothing has been decided just yet.

"I will probably visit Florida, but I'm really not for sure," he said. "I haven't made a decision about that yet. I definitely won't make a decision about a school right away. I want to take my time too think about it.

"I don't plan to make a rush decision," he added.

So basically, Hurley was just spewing crap for his own agenda.

He says in the article that he decided to reopen his recruitment two days after Buzz's visit.  Wasn't it two days after his visit that Hurley starting taking jabs at B Williams?

This Hurley guy is a piece of work....do you think he'd be as popular had his son not made it to the NBA?

Yes. He was well known before Bobby ever went to Duke. He has won 23 state championships in NJ. Has won 900 games in career.
But I like to throw handfuls...

As it was in November, if Kansas passes on Taylor (unlikely) or if Taylor isn't blown away (unlikely) it seems he could very well fall back to Marquette.

Having not set up the Florida visit signals to me that Kansas is where he wants to be and this is simply a test drive. If it doesn't handle the way he thought it would he'll then set up the visit to the Gators and choose between them and Marquette.

Wow, impressive.....still don't like him.

Can't believe he will likely be going to Kansas, seems like a bad decision with the players he has in front of him.

He'll walk into Allen Fieldhouse and that will be the end of it.  It's just awesome.  I hope I'm wrong, but I would be stunned if he didn't take it.

I am always amazed how Top 100 players often choose schools where they are not guaranteed playing time.  You look at that Kansas roster of guards... it is just unbelievable.  I know some of them are going to delcare for the NBA but it is just incredible... Collins, Chalmers, Robinson, Rush, and lord knows the bevy of Freshmen that are probably coming in.

I think it comes down these kids dominating in High School and they think they are just going to walk into a place like Kansas and have major playing time Freshmen year and the starting job by the Sophomore year.  It may happen, but it often does not.

Part of it is the name on the jersey.  People want to be identified with the best.  Would you rather tell your grand kids you played for Kansas or DePaul?  Some would say DePaul especially if they can play a ton, but there are a lot of people that would go the other way.

You see it in business as well.  People that want to hook up with a major brand vs potentially "being the guy" at a smaller shop.  Different strokes for different folks.
