Taylor Has List of 5

Having secured his release from Marquette, St. Anthony guard Tyshawn Taylor has a list of schools he's considering.

They include Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Florida and NCAA champion Kansas. Taylor, a 6-3 first-team All-State guard, said Marquette is still in the mix.

Taylor chose Marquette the first time over Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech and will visit two of the schools he has yet to see. That group includes Virginia, Florida and Kansas.

Taylor asked for his release after Tanning Cream left Marquette for Indiana and was replaced by Buzz Williams.

The late signing period ends May 21.

We still think it's absurd that Taylor can't sign on with another Big East school because of a conference rule prohibiting a player from signing with two league schools.

In the meantime, Marquette secured a commitment from Jimmy Butler, a 6-6 guard  from Tyler (TX) Junior College. Butler averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

"I think the best thing he does is he's very versatile," Williams told postcrescent.com. "He became one of the most sought-after players in the country this year. He can do a lot of different things, similar to players that are currently on our team."

If he does want PT I'd assume Marquette and then GT despite Shumpert would be his best choices.

I realize he rejected us to open up his recruiting but I would love to see him in an MU uniform because I think Hurley got in his head.

too late for TT to join MU.

He had his chance, was given first shot and decided that listening to his low rent HS coach was smarter.

Now that we have added Butler, the logjam at guard re-appears and that will be enough to discourage TT.

You wanted your release, be careful what you wish for.

I totally agree.  I still believe that Hurley still wants what's best for him and I have NO hard feelings towards TT if he leaves.  That said, I would embrace TT should he come to Marquette.

Butler is not a PG, we still need a PG of the future.  Butler replaces Christopherson.

I'm pretty sure Hurley is trying to steer him to the Lakers. If he comes, fine. If he doesn't, fine.

Hurley said about 12 schools called to express interest, including Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, which Taylor considered the first time around. The coach did not rule out a return to Marquette.

"We haven't eliminated them," Hurley said Thursday. "He's entitled to two more visits. We just want him to take advantage of these other opportunities. There's still consideration for (Marquette). but we need to move in this direction."

Zagoria's comment about not being allowed to go to another Big East school is just idiotic.  I have no problem, and actually support releasing a player if a coach leaves, but I also support the idea of not being allowed to go to a conference competitor.  I think Mr. Zagoria may have some bias in making that suggestion and isn't thinking this point fully through.  If this restriction were not in place, there would be far less likelihood of a player getting a release in the first place.

I agree with previous posters in that I no longer care where TT ends up going.  For him to think he will actually get minutes at a school like Kansas may be a little arrogant.

I'm not sure, but i think that comment was actually a quote from Hurley that was not attributed to him.  Why would Zagoria state that "We still think it's absurd?"  just my take...

Zagoria:  Taylor to Visit Kansas
Freed from his commitment to Marquette, Tyshawn Taylor will now take a couple of visits.

"I'm going to Kansas Wednesday," Taylor, a 6-foot-3 first-team All-State guard from St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, said Monday by text message.

Taylor, who plays for the Westchester Hawks AAU program was granted his release from Marquette last week. He requested it after former Marquette coach Tom Crean took the Indiana job and was replaced by former Crean assistant Buzz Williams.

Taylor is not permitted to go to another Big East School and is considering Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Georgia Tech and Florida. He said Marquette is also still in the mix.

National champion Kansas is already bringing in three players from New Jersey in St. Patrick of Elizabeth PF Quintrell Thomas and twins Marcus and Markieff Morris of Apex Academy in Pennsauken. The Morris twins combined for 36 points Saturday night in leading the Suburban team to victory in the Jordan Brand Regional Game.

Kansas assistant Joe Dooley is a New Jersey native and has worked hard to cultivate relationships with the school's top programs.
