Former St. Bernard's and Henry Sibley basketball star Trevor Mbakwe, who considered transferring from Marquette after his freshman season this year, has decided to remain with the team. The Gophers were expected to pursue the 6-foot-8 forward if he had made himself available.

perhaps the Buzz hiring wasn't the disaster some of us thought it was.

I think this puts a lot of pressure on Buzz next year.  My expectation is this team has enough talent/experience to go to the sweet 16.

Welcome back, Trevor. I'm sure TC's already missing you.

pressure was there anyway if the 3 amigos return.

this is better long-term though, 09-10 will still have signifcant roster gaps with TM

Agreed. The typical doomsdayers predictions are not quite panning out. Good for Buzz!

I agree - I think with this though, there will be no room for excuses.  We will have a proven backup at the 4 and 5 which was the biggest question I had for next year.

Not sure I'd call Trevor proven just yet, but regardless this is fantastic news, if true. He's certainly the MU post player with the most upside.

After all the negativity associated with the program, now it seems as though we are on a streak of positive news.  I hope it keeps on coming.

Not a 100% reliable source, in fact one jumped on here, but could be great news. Scroll down to a small item toward the end of the column.

Rosiak reported Mbakwe was going to transfer regardless of Crean's departure due to family issues.

Was that a bullcrap cover by MU?

Buzz needed Mbakwe to return not so much for next season but for Year II and Year III. He now has Hayward, Mbakwe, Williams, and the gaggle of JUCOs. I'd think playing with those guys would be attractive to guards so we should be fine given Buzz' dominate recruiting ability.

Though this Walters isn't a reliable source I take it packaged with what 87 wrote a couple days ago and believe Mbakwe to be back. The ship is stabilizing.

Edited: offensive word.

Gaggle = 1, possibly 2?

and the gaggle of JUCOs.

And by that you mean Fulce, and possibly Butler.  Not to be picky, but until there are more than 2 (of which we only have 1 so far), there's no way we have a gaggle.  Once we get to 3 or more, I think the term would be appropriate.

Of course, I think you also have to look at the Jucos, since you seem to be using the term negatively.  Fulce was going to UNO (and qualified), but since Buzz left in July, and he wanted to play for Buzz, he didn't have many other Div 1 options.  He's also going to be a 3 year player at MU.  Not your typical Juco story.

Butler story is similar (except that Miss St. didn't have scholies left) from what I've read.

edit: pakuni beat me to the gaggle reference.

Lots of college freshman, including myself, think about transferring and then decide to stick it out. I know I did and it was the best non-decision I ever made.

Since it offended both of you I'll change it.

you still pluralize Jucos.. Fulce is the only one for sure so it should be just Juco.. and since that is the case.. why not just say Fulce and be done with it  ;D

Doubful.  This isn't the first time he's considered transferring since coming to MU, and it isn't the first time he's changed his mine.  All which are apparently based on family issues that he feels he needs to take care of, and he keeps getting talked out of it, either by the coaches or his family.

rocky_warrior

Right - not offensive, just incorrect.

Anyhow the thread is about Mbakwe - thanks for the info bma.  Glad he's apparently been talked out of it (again).

Guess I'll change my fantasy team name back to Mbakwe's Minions!

Monarch is a done deal. Fulce is still coming. Those developments = Jimmy Butler attending Marquette. That would be two JUCO players and a JUCO coach. Plural form makes sense.

Edit: Butler's definitely a done deal now seeing as though MU seems to be pissing off Hurley more and more and Taylor will likely play in the ACC.

what have i said the last 3 posts regarding this topic?? I have connections with the team and told you he'd be back 2 weeks ago!

Or...

maybe Hurley wants to rule out MU and TT still wants to come here.  That's why TT or his parents haven't sent a request to MU to release the LOI...

Hey dude, I gave you the credit in my first post of this thread.   ;)

I take your word over Walters.
