Thank god we didn't look into hiring him (sarcasm off).

Not a chance in Hello. Sure it has been a good stop for future FInal Four Coaches (Rick Barnes, Rick Pitino) But it is not the same job it was when those guys were there.

If that is the case then fine, all it does is putinto question even more the Brent Williams hiring.

Why?  Because this guy has one year as a head coach, where he led them to victory in a down year for the MVC, and then failed to get out of the first round of the NCAA's?  The MVC is a good conference, just not this year.  Keno is getting out while the getting is good.  Drake loses 3 of their top 5 scorers, including POY Adam Emmenecker and teams like Creighton, Southern Illinois, Bradley, and Northern Iowa have had a year to rebuild.

I don't know if this guy will go to Providence, but here's the point.

Davis had a PHENOMENAL year and took a team picked nowhere near going to the NCAAs to the NCAAs.

Second, he's in the midwest, practically in our backyard.

Third, he's the son of Tom Davis, a great college basketball coach who's coaching tree includes Bruce Pearl and others.  Keno has basketball in his blood, literally.

Fourth, why did Marquette not even talk to this guy?  If he does go to Providence, how sad it that for MU?  Providence is a coaches graveyard, bad facilities, poor finishes of late, etc....and yet they have a shot to get this guy (just like they got Larrangara and Ford to campus) and we quit after two guys?

Our search was so pathetic its not funny.  Buzz was there, so where many others ahead of him that we didn't even bother to contact.

Would Keno be a slamdunk hire for MU?  Impossible to say.  Would Keno give MU some credibility and take a lot of the gamble out of the equation....absolutely.

The fact that Keno led basically a bunch of walk-ons to a 5th seed is all I need to know.  I forget the details of that squad, but there were some crazy stories behind a lot of their players (guys who were virtually unknowns...even on their own high school teams).

Great points Chicos... the more this unfolds, the more disappointed I am in the hiring process.  I'm supportive of Buzz as coach and i'm optimistic about his recruiting abilities but I just think there was probably a better hire out there.  Time will tell and I hope to eat my words but...

Rick Barnes.
Pete Gillen.
Rick Pitino.

Coaches graveyard, indeed.

Graveyard for those that stayed Pakuni, that's why they call it a graveyard...it's where you're buried.  Those others got out while the getting was good.

Great hire by Providence College, imagine if Marquette had put a little effort into it.

And again, shows why waiting a little while does ZERO DAMAGE as I stated.  ZERO!!

I'm sick to my stomach.  Does anyone else have the feeling that we care more about MU basketball than the people who actually run the program?

Who stayed besides Tim Welsh? And was the job really a graveyward, or was Welsh simply not that good?
That's quite a sample size you're talking about.

Yeah. I can say this about more than just basketball here, though.

(Particularly if by "care" you mean, "have thoughtful and meaningful ideas about running an institution.")
