Not trying to turn into a Negative Nelly, but we shot 6-18 from the charity stripe?  Seems like it's more of a scrooge strip!  When are we gonna get this damn FT shooting straight?  Did Crean say anything about it?

Paging Coach Novak... come help us shoot like your son!!

i don't think there is much hope that we will be a better free throw shooting team this year.  It is what it is.  Same with 3 point shooting.    Those are two areas that we are just bad.

I will tell you though that 3 point shooting is the main stat to look at with this team.  In fact, I feel confident enough to say that if we shoot 33% from 3 point range, we won't lose barring a team shooting well over 50% from 3 point land.  We shoot 33% against NDST and UW-Madison and we are undefeated this season.  Also in the few games we have shot better than 33% we have blown teams out for the most part.

Well you can say the same thing about FT%...

vs. Wisconsin: 11-18 (61%) - we lost by 4
vs. NDSU: 8-14 (57%) - we lost by 4

For the season we're shooting 158-259 (61%).  That continued type of shooting from the free throw in the Big East will lead to a sub-500 record.

Yes our free throw shooting has been bad and it definitely would help if we shot the free throws better but the impact is no where near as great(3 points for a 3 and 1 for a free throw).  Furthermore if you factor out the Hillsdale game as it looks like an anomaly we have shot only 7 more free throws than 3 point shots (206 to 199).

We were 8-14 in free throws against NDST.  We hit 2 more free throws and it is a respectable 71 percent and we still lose.  We hit 3 free throws against bucky and it is a very good 78 percent and we still lose.

The point about 3 point shooting is that 33% 3 point shooting is still not a good percentage.  Our 3 point shooting has been so bad that an additional 2 to 3 more made would have got us to a still less than steller 33% but we would have won.

Quote from Crean in Rosiak's recap today - I don't think he knows what else to do about FTs....

Quote"The only thing we can do to be spending more time shooting free throws, I think, is to bring pillows and blankets to the gym," said Crean. "We spend a ton of time on it. Maybe we've got to go bury the game ball or something."
