I'm a little bit in the dark on why there was such a rush to name a coach? I think it was around one week. Seems a very short time to evaluate all options and all possible candidates. What does everyone think?

Also, what has everyone heard about contract value? Did we get buzz on the cheap?

PuertoRicanNightmare

Because we were worried we might lose a couple recruits and have transfers.

MilTown

That happened even when we had a coach.

That's my point. It was an idiotic decision.

What coach did you want? We contacted the people you suggested and no one wanted it.

Warrior1969

the decision was made in three days tops, Buzz wife was in the spirit shop buying $1500 of stuff on Saturday.  Is this guy already lying to us like a former coach?  He said he found out he was the guy Monday around 6ish?

Maybe it was wishful thinking on Buzz's wife's part.  The only people that really know are Cockingham, Fr Wilde and Buzz.

Was Buzz being pursued by other schools for head coaching positions or top assistant positions? As far as I know, he wasn't. Even if he was at the top of the short or long list, there was really no reason to hire him so fast. Maybe you roll the dice and contact some coaches who are not on the short list, maybe you reach out to some big name coaches from other schools, like a Billy Donovan. Maybe other coaches contact us. You never know what could happen.

What I don't like about the process is that the administration never got the job out there in the media. They never did anything to "build up" the job or create some sort of buzz. They needed to change the spin from we are the little school that got shafted to we are a top notch Big East program and a destination job. This was a chance for some great PR for the program. Go out on a limb, request an interview with Bruce Webber. He might not accept an interview, or U of I may not allow it, but maybe you get in the Chicago Tribune or the other Illinois papers or a mention on ESPN.

Warrior1969

Maybe it was wishful thinking??  Are you kidding me?  She was seen in the spirit shop, she couldn't have waited til Monday or Teusday to buy that stuff?

Warrior1969

word is weber was interested, but no evidence MU contacted him.  Did they call travis Ford, Scott Drew, Lowry was not contacted according to Dayton papers.
