Does anyone really buy the letters to coaches story? Cottingham stated he was impressed that Buzz was sending letters to 400 coaches a week by his senior year. If I was AD that would freak me not impress me.

Wouldn't you think 1 or 397 of the coaches might have stopped writing back at some point. This story seems alot like the ND football coach that fudged on his resume. I sure hope this was not what won the "brass" over.

As one of my friends pointed out earlier, copy and paste could have saved him alot of time.

That's about $5,000 a year in postage at .29 cents a stamp :o

Several dollars less if he used e-mail.

Buzz is 35. I doubt he was emailing coaches when he was in college.

Buzz mentioned that Cottingham didn't have the story totally right.  It was 425 total coaches that he had written by his senior year.  It wasn't that many every week.

I loved the story.  Odd anecdotes like this seem to be commonplace among guys who end up being really successful.  To me, it shows a complete passion for the profession and gaining knowledge on hoops.

Ha! Good point.

MU Viking---Thanks for clarifying. I would have sworn AD said he was mailing letters to 400 coaches a week. Obviously I misheard him. THANK GOD I did.

Cottingham did say that, but Buzz gently corrected the story when it was his turn.
