I was just wondering because almost everyone on this board is not giving Buzz the chance he needs.  Pull your heads out of your ass and support your team.

I feel like Buzz has the same possibilities to be a great coach as anyone else.  He has good standards and is not a dumb guy.

Nobody would succeed if they were not given multiple chances to prove themselves.  We have a great team here at Marquette and we are Warriors!

A HUGE fracking +1 to that!

MU_4_Life

I completely agree, lets give this guy a chance.  He may not be everyone's first choice but lets not pass any judgement until he at least coaches one Marquette game!

Make that a HUGE +2.  Tons of people on here must live some very bitter lives, and I would hate to live like that.  It MAY not work out, but I'm not ready to call us St. John's, DePaul, or Rutgers BEFORE he's ever coached a game.  I think we're going to take top 3 in the Big East next year...that's how I feel about this whole situation.

And hey, if we do turn out to be just like DePaul, at least we'll get some SWEET non-conference HOME games right?! ;D

People on here are ridiculous.

So if Marquette were to have hired Whoopi Goldberg, would we have our heads up our rears if we didn't want to give her a chance?  I mean, she was an NBA coach in a movie- and has as much experience as Buzz with coaching top-tier NCAA D1 hoops.

Ok, why not....YAY BUZZ!!!!!!

jaybilaswho?

after seeing the presser, i am excited to see what ole' buzz can do for us. he seems very personable, probably why he is a good recruiter. I am on the bandwagon... lets go destroy the BEast this year.

I hold my point.  Who the unnatural carnal knowledge compares Buzz to Whoopi.  I mean she is an actress and a ton less knowledge of basketball.  I can't believe you would even suggest such an idea to compare those two.

wadesworld,

MU should be good next year but we will not finish in the top 3 in the Big East. Our recruiting has not come close to keeping up with Georgetown, Louisville, Connecticut, Syracuse, Villanova and others. Hopefully Boeheim under achieves again, but our roster, especially if we lose T Taylor, N Williams and T Mbwake, will not be in the top 3 of the Big East.

The comparison is an exaggeration, but not by much.  The point people here at this board have is that we should stand behind Buzz and MU and give them a chance.  Buzz is closer to Whoopi Goldberg than he is to even TC, circa 1999.  We should not support a decision that reeks of nepotism and/or carelessness.

Why I mentioned Whoopi is because I wonder if people that blindly support Buzz would also support somebody who is even less qualified.  Or what if we hired the JV coach at Marquette High School?  I guess both schools have "Marquette" in the name....

The fact of the matter is- I will always love Marquette.  However, its' fans accepting this kind of move and then criticizing those who oppose it is frightening.

Do you even know what 'nepotism' means?
Do yourself a favor and don't use big words unless you know their meanings.

Right, assistant coaches just get hired by Big East teams after one year without knowing anyone.  Sorry dudes!

None of the higher profile candidates wanted to come.   Face that fact and embrace the guy who did want to be here.    And hope that your fears are groundless.    Because I want to believe.   But I am not kidding myself.   If this gamble bombs, we are Rutgers, SJU, DePaul within just a couple of years.   But for now, I believe.

I never onced mentioned TC in my argument and I am criticizing other fans because they have nothing on Buzz to judge him on.  He has yet to coach one game here.  It is a stupid judgement that people are making.  How would any coach become great if no one gave him a chance.  Buzz has been an assistant coach for many years.  he is no High School coach, we support Buzz because people do not succeed in life without support from others, especially in sports.  If people don't support him and our team now they have no chance at succeeding.

No way....

Marquette has always had 5X Depaul attendance before and after Crean.

We have a good returning class.

Top 4 BE next year and beyond.

Look at the other boards they all talk of how cool the Bradley Center is at MU games

People keep saying they fear we'll be SJU, DePaul, etc., but keep in mind those schools got to where they are by doing exactly what so many of the Buzz bashers wanted: hire an experienced head coach from a successful mid-major.

Perhaps that's not the formula for success everyone thinks it is. Though hiring Buzz is not without substantial risk, I'm comforted by the fact the man in charge has experience recruiting against top schools for top players unlike, for example, Brad Brownell, Bob McKillop or even Chris Lowery. That's no guarantee of success by any means, but I don't think one can overestimate the importance of recruiting at a place like Marquette.

Speaking of DePaul, their only taste of success over the past decade or so was when? When they hired a longtime assistant with very little head-coaching experience and what experience he had was a disaster.

claymate

Right.  We have nothing to judge Buzz on.

My problem is more with Marquette....it's been 9 days now since TC left.  How do we know he was the best man for the job?  Why didn't we try harder to get a more proven coach?  We're Marquette for crying out loud....we were just in the Final Four five years ago and no one wanted to come?

I would love to pour Buzz Cola all over myself after a Marquette National Title in a few years.  I'm just disappointed that MU rushed this and went with an even less proven man than Crean in 99.

I don't think people are not giving Buzz a chance....in fact most of the people here have said quite clearly they want him to succeed.  People are questioning the hiring and the process, especially in light of where we've been.

I don't see anyone here saying they don't want him to succeed, a completely different conclusion that I think you've come to.  I hope like hell he's the guy and absolutely he will be given a chance.  However, I think it would be naive to suggest if it doesn't work out, how this hire would look a few years down the road.  There are slam dunk hires and there are hires that are risky and there are hires that are plain stupid.

I'd qualify this one as a risky hire which could go either way.  We wish him the best, nothing less.
