Special University News Brief

Wear your blue and gold to weelcome Marquette's new men's baskletball coach

Marquette University will hold a press conference tomorrow (Tuesday, April 8) to introduce Brent "Buzz" Williams as the new men's basketball coach

The press conference, which is open to all students, faculty and staff, will begin at 2 p.m. in the Al McGuire Center.

Williams, 35, was an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles this year. Before coming to Marquette, he served as the head coach at the University of New Orleans in 2007-08. Prior to that he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M under Billy Gillispie, with two recruiting classes named among the best in the country. Williams was at Colorado State from 2001 through 2004, concluding his tenure there as associate head coach. Earlier in his career he was an assistant at Northwestern State, Texas A&M - Kingsville, and Texas-Arlington.

In making the announcement tonight, Marquette President Robert A. Wild said, "As many of you know, Buzz brings to us experience as an assistant or head coach in several conferences as well as a knowledge of Marquette and our players developed during the past year. The search team talked with, either directly or through intermediaries, a number of coaches, former players and those close to college basketball and, especially, the BIG EAST. When I met with Buzz, I was convinced that he brings a passion for college basketball and for the BIG EAST conference, and a commitment to Marquette and to the high level of play our fans have come to expect from Marquette basketball."
