Homer just said he's trying to get Mike DeCourcey on the show today.  He said it was DeCourcey that mentioned the Bennett reference on the Tim Brando show this morning.

Pay would be about $2 million per year.  Homer said that it appears that Marquette has slowed down the selection process, which may mean they're looking for someone other than Buzz.

I'm telling you, it's because they were gauging reactions to the possibility and didn't like what they heard/read/saw.

Hopefully Cracked Sidewalks can grab another exclusive interview

Let's hope, man. But I don't have a big reason to believe they've suddenly decided to not live in a vaccuum (they=BOT).

$2 million a year?  That means no Buzz.  Heck, I don't believe they would pay Lowery, Brownell or McKillop that figure.  Where would that figure rate as far as other Head Coach's salary?

Billy D is $3.5, Crean is $2.3, Self is $1.3.

Nope. Its because Tony Bennet has been talking to Wazzu about a new contract and didn't like what he heard/read/saw. Perhaps he is using MU, but he never once stated he was staying at WSU, and as I have maintained all along, MU is going to be able to offer him more of he's interested.

This was  in the Seattle Times on Sunday.  The columnist is Jerry Brewer.

I hope TB comes to MU just because of this tool's opinion.

Coach Tony Bennett's successes at WSU means he'll always be wanted elsewhere

By Jerry Brewer

"Every time Bennett expresses his love of being the underdog, the cynics snicker and whip up a fresh batch of job rumors.

It's a never-ending, ever-frustrating cycle. Welcome back to the other side of winning.

On this side, Bennett turns down Indiana, only to be burdened by speculation about Marquette and Louisiana State. On this side, every aspect of a coach's life turns into a reason he might bolt.

Why would Bennett shun Indiana, one of college basketball's all-time great programs, and then be interested in Marquette? Oh, because Marquette is located in Wisconsin, Bennett's home state, and let's ignore that there are flying objects called planes that could usher him home often.

Why would he shun Indiana and then be interested in LSU? Oh, because his wife, Laurel, is from Baton Rouge, La., where the Tigers reside, and let's ignore that there are, well, you know."

AlumKCof93

Is that a column?  Wow, thanks for the insight.

I hope the source of the Bennett rumor is DeCourcy.  He's one of the best writers in college basketball.

Was that actually the whole story?  What a retard!

It has nothing to do with you my friend. This is a process and MU needs to be certain Tony will listen. I guess he said he will listen.

Self is 1.3 for a few more days.  Stay at Kansas or go to OSU, he will be in the Billy D catagory very soon.

He says this like taking a plane to WI or Baton Rouge is like drving to the corner store.  Hard to get home very often and when you do usually to much going on to see all your old friends if you care.  Not saying he wants to come back, no inside info here, just that it isn't like it would be an hour drive or something to get home for Bennett so he can do it whenever he feels like.

OK, Self is at $4 million. (With a $6 million bonus for showing up)  But $2 million has to be in the top ten salaries.

esotericmindguy

I just don't see him leaving WSU for Marquette, I would think he would be in line for a top top tier program.  The guy was coach of the year in 07'!  Why then go to Marquette, I'd love to see him here but it isn't happening.

This is a little dated....but it gives an idea of where salaries are at.  Click on the red "Click here" tab.

Such as...What exactly is a "top tier" program that is going to be looking for a new coach any time soon?

UNC - No
UCLA - No
Indiana - No
Kansas - Maybe - though I doubt Bennett would be their guy.
Kentucky - Not likely unless Self leaves Kansas and Gillespie moves. Very unlikely.
Duke - No
Florida - No
memphis - No
Michigan State - No
UConn - Not likley
Syracuse - Not likely
Texas - No
Louisville - No

What exactly are these top tier programs you speak of?

Can someone who heard the show expand on how Homer got this $2 million rumor?

He got it from DeCourcey, who mentioned it on the Tim Brando show this morning.  No other sources, and they weren't able to get DeCourcey on the phone.
