Dickie V selected for 2008 HOF

Vitale was selected on his fourth nomination to enter the hall of fame. Growing up, this wouldnt have been much of a shock for me as he was entertaining... while growing up. Now, I think of him more as a clown with no facepaint, who makes absurdly ridiculous claims and loves anyone in the realm of college basketball.

I want to know what the boards thoughts are on Dicky V "oh baby"...


On a hardly related note... in my opinion Bob Knight is really gaining fans in his retirement, with his no nonsense humor on espn to the VW commercial where he throws a chair. He is really changing alot of peoples minds about him. Good for the General.

The best thing about Knight on ESPN is he reveals Digger Phelps to be the empty headed yahoo that he really is. Digger adds absolutely nothing to the commentary provided by Knight and Bilas. At least Vitale contributes by helping Knight reveal himself.

Exactly. Digger is completely over his head when he's surrounded by those two. I have to be honest when I say I enjoy every minute of it.

His selection is no way a testament to his coaching career, but it is a reflection of his impact on the game:
- Many of us in our 30s relate Dickie V with March Madness and the college basketball season
- Many of us in our 50s relate Dickie V with the upset victory over MU
- But ALL of us relate Dickie V to his Dookie-Love and ethereal relationship with Coach K.

He does belong in the following views, but being selected on his fourth try, it shows how fleeting of his fame will be.

Dukie V has become a caricature (sp?) of himself.  Not sure if he ever really had any insight, but he's got a lot less now.

He should be the first person admitted to the Hall of Loud Obnoxious Grating Boors even ahead of Howard Cosell, Brent Musberger and Chris Berman. I guess he got in the basketball HOF because of his stellar playing and coaching career
