Just out of curiosity does anybody know what MU is going to do next year with there scholarship situation? I was looking at the scholarship situation and it look like if DJ stays at MU for another season we will be over the limit of 13. Is TC just assuming DJ will not be around for another season? Just a thought.

There are a few other options that I've heard, but I don't know how much stock to put into any of them:
- Someone could transfer out
- Rosiak (in his last chat) mentioned that the NCAA was considering allowing 14 scholies.  That was the first I had heard of it though.
- If one of the players had a high enough gpa (DJ might be the front runner on this one) they could be put on an academic scholarship
- Someone could give up their scholarship and pay their own way (don't know who on the team could swing this though).

So, it's not all just assuming DJ leaves.

Crean will facilitate a transfer.

4ever, good to see you are as positive as ever.  Nice contribution to conversation.   ::) >:( ;D

Crean doesn't do anything without having planned it out.  I don't know that i can speculate what that plan is....but I'm sure Crean already knows what is happening.  I suspect we won't find out until the end of the season.

"A Plan? Oh man, I hate plans. That means were gonna have to do stuff. Can't we just have a strategy......or a mission statement."

I don't think this applies to Dameon Mason's transfer.

there is also the chance that someone...Fitz or James..receives an academic scholarship.  Apparently teams are allowed to have one. With Fitz probably going to grad school at mu it makes sense.

I'm against giving an academic scholarship to an athlete unless they truly deserve it.  Do Fitz & DJ really have the grades to justify an academic scholarship?  Last I heard, DJ had around a 3.2 gpa with substantial academic assistance through the school... in my mind, that doesn't qualify for full academic scholarship.  Think of all the other students who have much better gpa's and who are working multiple jobs to put themselves through school.  Give those students the scholarship!

eh.  i had to do that.  i'd rather at least have a good basketball team to look forward to while i was working the multiple jobs...

If they got one, it wouldn't be one that would go to a normal student.  Its part of the new NCAA rules that allow you to set aside academic scholarships specifically for student athletes based upon their GPA.  If no student athletes qualify, the scholarship doesn't get used...I suppose MU could then take that money and it for a normal student, but thats not the way its set up.

I think its actually only for football and basketball players though - one per team per school - sort of a reward to those schools trying to actually have kids graduate from thier program.
If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.
