Love that he said Crean to IU is  a step down.  There's some love for MU

Horrible!! If true, it sounds to me like they gave Crean a voice in this decision.

I would rather see Buzz than this guy.

At this moment, this is absolutely where I would place my bet. I believe I posted how much sense it made while Crean's press conference was going on.

FOr those who want Buzz to stick around, given the relationship with Crean, his endorsement, etc., this would seem to be one likely scenario in which he stays.

Also, I think we need to get some players out of Ohio from time to time.

To be honest, I like the idea of an African American coach, but I'd rather have the guy from VCU.

This would be terrible, they don't even want him at dayton!

I'm praying that this is not true.  Please don't be true.

What? Gregory is whiter than my bed sheets!

Unless I missed something ,Brian Gregory's white

MU gimp ONE

i know nothing about gregory... although dayton's program has been fun to watch this year.  not saying he is the best fit, but who knows.  When Crean was hired 9 years ago, did everyone say "WOW, THIS IS AN AWESOME HIRE."  probably not, so why are people panicing now on who we hire.  we don't need a big name to succeed, we just need the right fit.

Reading the Dayton boards, they'll all personally drive Gregory to Milwaukee. They can't get rid of him fast enough apparently.

Since Izzo is the puppetmaster behind all of this, can we get Gregory a tanning booth?

NavinRJohnson

My thoughts on Gregory on Tuesday. Not sure this wouldn't be a decent choice...

I'm not married to the idea as he has not been wildly succesful, but I have to admit I'm kinda feelin' Brian Gregory. His progression at Dayton has been similar to Crean's...some early success, followed by a couple down years, but they are back on the upswing. Beyond that I think his experience makes him somewhat of a natural fit...he has worked for Jud Heathcoat, Kevin O'Neill, and Tom Izzo...my hope would be that he could sort of bring the best of what O'Neill, Dean, and Crean gave us given that history. Safe to assume he will bring a defensive mentality (all 3), good knowledge of X's and O's matchups(heathcoat/Deane), tireless work and recruiting (Izzo/Crean), etc. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Guys like Miller, Pearl, Bennett, etc. would certainly bring a better resume, and perhaps be safer picks, but I'm not sure I guy like Gregory wouldn't be a better fit (who am I kidding, Bennett is a natural fit, and I'd be ok with that). The question would be if he could translate the upgrade in conference, recent success, etc. into more success for MU on the court. I would suggest if he can recruit to Dayton, he can rtecruit to MU. Its all relative. I would suggest that the jump from Dayton to MU is comparable to the jump from MU to IU. That said, if Crean doesn't ultimately deliver better results there than he did here, he will be out on his a**. If IU is assuming Crean can upgrade his success by making the move, isn't is safe to assume Gregory might be able to do the same by upgrading to MU?

PuertoRicanNightmare

Fun to watch? What has he accomplished to earn this kind of promotion?

He was on the verge of being on the hotseat at Dayton!

CTWarrior was writing about his preference for Anthony Grant from VCU the African-American coach.  We realize Gregory is White

Yikes!  Not even a good Tommy Crean tan!  I guess I thought I read that somewhere.  I guess it's safe to say I haven't seen a game he's coached!

Gregory from UD to MU... Grant from VCU to UD? Can't we just cut out the middle man, and have Grant jump straight here?

NavinRJohnson

Speaking of wanting to get a few players out of Ohio, I was thinking about this earlier today...In his 9 years here, I can think of only 1 player Crean signed out of Michigan - Brandon Bell, and we all know how that worked out. Is that really all though? If so, I would say that isn't very good.

leglegle

If Grant is going to leave VCU, choosing Dayton over MU that would be tough to take!

It would be a ridiculous embarrassment if Gregory went to Marquette and Dayton got Anthony Grant.

If Brownell was really the guy for Indiana if Crean stayed in Milwaukee how in the world does our administration allow Brian Fucking Gregory jump him in the line for the HC job?

Puking. Now.

Dish

Last good player MU got out of Ohio was Hutch.

DonCornholeone

Considering our other options, this choice wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.  I'm sure he is a decent enough coach, but I was really hoping for a change in direction... and Gregory would be more of the same.  And the guy lost me when he said IU is a step down... puh-lease.
